Exactly, it happens on both sides. Therefore if the other side is going to kill, murder, mame, we should able to do the same too. It is only fair. We shouldnt hold ourselves to higher standard if the competition wont. Whoever makes it to the bottom first wins. Having higher morals and holding yourself to higher standards do not win wars or battles nor will it help you profit. In the words of Ayn Rand, "I got mine, BITCH"

FR - I never said both sides aren't susceptible to lobbyists. What I am implying in my post is that Abramoff stands as the worst of the worst. And ANY SELF-RESPECTING REPUBLICAN should be insulted by his behavior. In fact I have several friends who are life-long republicans that WERE. So spare me the pablum and show us your examples. I think it's important to see what's happening on both sides of the fence.

So you get insulted every time someone on the left does something stupid? You must spend a lot of time being insulted. Personally I don't think anything this guy says reflects on me or anyone else on the right. I am not his momma and I didn't raise him. Now if one of my kids starts going off like an asshat, I will get concerned, but not for this idiot. Maybe your friends should realize that one man does not speak for them.

My favorite argument in here was when I reported the BOA bringing it's current derivatives liability of $75 Trillion across the books to be backstopped by depositor's holdings in the REAL side of the bank and at least three people tried to amortize it down so it didn't look so bad. Turned out no matter WHAT they came up with it never dipped below 4 or 5 times what was actually on deposit.

It seems that we are trying to have a conversation while being seperated by a common language. What you are calling a mangle is what I was taught was a wringer. Here is what I thought you were speaking of.

The mangle is the wringer.  The ironer irons mangle, what they also call the cloth items that have been wrung thru the mangle, mangle.   It get sort of flat pressed and still damp provides steam for the ironer.

Now in the dry cleaning end of it they had steam built into the ironer or press.

Recall to mind Del Florias Tailor Shop, and open channel D.

What kind of examples do you want, Stern?

You know ... an important issue to me is that people such as you (who I respect), are still using the partisan divide to frame what is wrong.  The problem is crony capitalism,  and pointing an accusing finger at one party or the other just subtracts from arriving at a better solution.

Any party in power, which has the power to do this, will do this.  Period.  Full Stop.

Firm

How about........ an example comparable to Abramoff.

Should be a no-biggie if the con myth that both parties are equally egregious is true.

Have you read anything in this thread?

He got to both sides ... listen to his interview ... It's crystal clear where he made his bed Dude and you CAN'T delude your way out of that. He poisoned both sides of the aisle, but came from ONE.

Stern,

First, you made it partisan from the ground floor, with the title of the thread.

Second, are you saying above, that since Abramoff was a "Republican" that the party is the source of such evil and therefore holds a higher responsibility for what he did, and all lobbyist's actions?

Okay...a Dem example comparable to Abramoff. .....Abramoff. Try reading the whole story, instead of the story edited by the Jersey pigshit on your glasses.

Lemme get this straight. you're saying you were upset about a partisanship issue before you even viewed the sixty minutes piece?
You really want to say that? You have my sympathies.
I no more made this a matter of partisanship than you and couple other people went to great pains disown the guy. But whatever... it's all a matter of record. Read up on the guy in detail and you'll see.

Again...Read up on Jack, I've said nothing that isn't part of the historical record. And the fact is his influence was built from right to left. He didn't just one day bribe everyone in the Senate.
You guys are always such political 'scholars' I am surprised you don't really know the history of one the most infamous characters in recent history and what his party affiliations really are.
I have never in the course of this thread denied he got to democrats. It was however an eventual sequence of events.
Anyway, if it helps I am sorry history exists at inconvenient times.
But we ALL have to live with it.

"One of the offices he keyed on was that of his good friend, the Majority Leader Tom Delay, eventually hiring his deputy chief of staff and his press secretary, and going into business with Delay's chief of staff. Stahl: Did you own his staff? Abramoff: I was as close to his staff as to any staff. I had a very strong personal relationship with a lot of his staff. Stahl: How many congressional offices did you actually own? Abramoff: We probably had very strong influence in 100 offices at the time. Stahl: Come on. Abramoff: No. Stahl: A hundred offices? Abramoff: In those days, I would view that as a failure. Because that leaves 335 offices that we didn't have strong influence in."

Stern,

When I saw the thread title, my first thought was "another Republican bashing thread".

Well, it is, although not as bad as a "fargle" thread on the subject, or some of the others.

Your first two posts were fine.  Then your next, in response to MSLA squarely took a partisan "it's the Republicans that are bad" tack:

Pretend we're from Missouri SHOW ME ... you won't find anybody as a egregious in his behavior as Abramoff anywhere else in politics... Less you count Herr Rove.  But the door's wide open bud put up or shut up.

I understand that MSLA can get the left side of the spectrum's dander up a bit, but you got sucked into her baiting, and made it a partisan issue in fact, then.

You kinda did deny any Democrats "on the scale of" Abramoff, in your post I quoted directly above.  IMHO you might have better have phrased you request that Abramoff be detested by any "American", not just any "Republican". By failing to do so, you again hit the partisan "Republican's are such shits" button.

My question above was an attempt to see if you really were interested and able to overcome a normal human bias to continually see those we disagree with as "others", and if you were just momentarily caught up in the moment.

I'm still not sure.  You are kinda on both sides of the issue right now.

First you said "ANY SELF-RESPECTING REPUBLICAN should be insulted by his behavior"  then you went on to claim that several of your life long republican friends were.

Now you say you don't feel insulted by anything the left does. So why should folks on the right be insulted when you aren't?

Personally I am not upset. Do you get upset over the posts on cm? If that is true maybe you shouldn't spend so much time here.

Oh and where is that link that proves you were not lying about Rush being a dealer?

I am quite insulted and frankly disappointed at nearly everything your o'dumbo does. How the hell do people elect a guy based on hope and change? And talk about blather... lets see the latest wisdom from o'dingdong was yesterday in hawaii when he said to a crowd he was pleased to be in asia. Now imagine if you will if any Republican had said that? Cain pauses for 11 seconds and it is front page news. I timed o'dumbo babble, yes BABBLE as in aahhh baa umm well biden baaa for 38 freaking seconds. Less than one year and we can clean out the occupy crowd from the white house. Gee there are so many. Another favorite was o'blather saying he was on to visit all 57 states. That's intelligence, leftist style.
