There's so much anger and bitterness in this thread, and I'm not entirely sure why. (although both sides have done some name calling and not been as respectful as they could be.) I'm just going to say for the record, one last time, that I have no problem with breast feeding almost anywhere, but a courtroom, where you have a formal appointment is just not the place. (in my own opinion)
I do understand the others' thoughts on it, and if it were anywhere else, I'd agree. I'd be arguing right alongside you, believe me.
And AS MUCH as it pains me, Termy is right that mothers *do* bring their children to court with them often because they think it will stop them from being arrested and/or mitigate whatever punishment the judge may hand out.
No one is going to agree, it seems, so unless something else comes up that is new and interesting...I'll catch ya'll on another thread.

Now that's an interesting use of the language, now isn't it? The unpleasant lawyer lady is now "both sides", such inventive folks you Yanks are, its quaint it is. Though it does make it a bit of a Mein Kampf when a fellow sets out to talk with one of them, what with words having meanings the complete opposite they do on this side of the pond.

LOL.... You could do a tap dance at the same time and it wouldn't have unsettled me in the least. People behave foolishly and are rude at times. I can cope with that and I excuse people that know no better. My husband would probably have invited you to take a closer look.

Actually, it is a highly regulated practice these days concerning where it is allowed. Bad analogy.
There aren't 'rules' where people can light up. There are "laws'. The 2 are quite different.
Breast feeding, on the other hand, is protected by laws, not regulated. I agree that it was an inappropriate place to do it but I don't understand the baliff's reaction.

Sorry, but the reasons that you cannot smoke in court is it is a) a fire hazard and b) a health hazard due to second hand smoke. It has absolutely nothing to do with offending people.

Breastfeeding is neither a fire nor a health hazard. It is feeding a hungry child the food that Nature created SPECIFICALLY for his needs. Since you seem to know shit all about it, if the child's cries cause a letdown effect and she DOESN'T nurse, then she has a wet shirt. Now which is far more distracting, a woman with two wet spots over her breasts and a crying child or a happy and quietly suckling child where you see almost no skin? I've seen women who AREN'T nursing show more breast tissue than most nursing mothers.

Arienos, I DO live in the US. The law is not the judge's plaything to do with and enforce as he pleases. He serves the public good, they do not serve him. It is not HIS law but THE law.
