I put in the application october 31st and she emailed me back but I didn't get it but I saw her today and explained what happened, she asked me when I wanted to take him home and I said ASAP, and she said I'll follow you home when you leave to check to make sure your yard is secure and you can have him tonight.

I am very excited, and nervous, a deaf dog is new to me. I am looking forward to teaching him and watching him improve

That is so fucking awesome!

My secretary went out to a bunch of no kill facilities last week.....found me a guy (cat)...we donate to most of the agencies around town.....she filled out all the paperwork (faked my sig), told them how wonderful I was (am)....one of the questions on the form was...."what would cause you to bring back the animal?" and she wrote in...."if it was too aggressive".

She didn't know that 30 years ago when I was an amoeba (and broke....but an animal lover then and now), I volunteered at a no kill.....and found this cat....big fat fucking thing....hated the Earth.....NO ONE could get anywhere near it.....they'd had the guy for about 4 weeks....full of hair mats, couldn't comb her out....the only way to make her presentable was to shave her down to her privates.....she was a walking fucking hair ball......put your hand in there....might as well ask that it gets cut off....or shredded.....I was 19 (testosterone's a wonderful fucking thing).

It took me about 5 days (I was the only one ballsy enough to stick my arm in there) but I got him to "accept" me......I lost a LOT of blood!

(And I ain't fucking kidding).

That cat was the design standard for an Osterizer.......

6 weeks later we were pals....he looked forward to when I'd come in....and we found him a great home, in a barn.....killing things.

Back to my secretary.....I told them I had to head out of state for a few days, said I'd be back on Friday to pick up my pals, went in and met my future buddies (got two) and I told the head lady there..."Sorry....I signed it (I lied) but my secretary filled it out....aggressive doesn't bother me....peeing on my head at 3 in the morning does.  I'll take the two cats no one else wants....and hasn't taken....who's been here the longest?".

Them are the 2 I got...and they're wondermous :)

I think people just don't really understand cats.

My Socks was practically feral when she adopted me (yes, I actually was not looking for a pet). Over time, she became loveable (to me) and well behaved.

She is also a hell of a watch kitty and protective. My housemate has a cat (demon from hell he is). One day, that cat decided to sleep on the foot of my bed. Socks was at my shoulder, her usual spot. I thought perhaps with Sparky being calm and all, I could work towards domesticating him and making him more friendly. He spit and went to attack me. Before he could even get off his fat ass, my Socks (half his size by the way) was in his face chasing him off the bed and out of the room. She is little miss protective that is for sure. Ok, I think she also enjoys beating up the big, bad, boy cat.

Try adopting an old, arthritic, semi agressive 150+# wolf hybrid.

I had to be really careful when I had people over and his life's ambition was to shed that muzzle and kill the vet. I could do about anything to him tho. Well, I did lose some blood when I was clipping his toenails once.

He even snarled at his ex owner when he came for a visit once. I kinda got a kick out of that.

As long as he had an AC vent to lay on in the summer, a fireplace to park in front of in the winter and butt scritchies, he was happy.

Bones kept getting in the way as we cleaned lol, when we'd go out the door for a second he's like I'll come too, but we didn't want him in the other room or outside un attended, so we'd usher him back in, and then I was on the floor in front of my knick nack shelf and bones came over, and was of course wagging his tail. Well he was knocking my papers and stuffed toys down lol.

Termy I will have his picture today, in about a few hours, actually, I can't figure out how to make the other camera go from video to still, so once Daddy is awake he'll do that.

Hugging Greedy back. They asked at the shelter did I know who I wanted to foster specifically and I said yup Bones, and they were so happy for me and for him.

Greedy, he just walked over to Daddy and stood on / over him. He does this thing where he sometimes walks up to you in bed and stands over you wagging his tail I don't know if he wants out, or wants to say hi or what but it's kind of funny.

Also I guess he has no spacial awareness sometimes cause when he walks up to be with me in bed he will step on my ankle, and stand there, and have apparently no clue he's stepping on me. Or he'll lay down on my feet, and I can feel his ribs pressing on my feet, I figure if it hurts me it has to be uncomfortable to him, but nope.

GreedyTop -> RE: I GOT APPROVED TO FOSTER AND BONES* a deaf dog&* IS HOME WITH ME NOW! (11/22/2011 9:10:42 AM)

oh no.. he KNOWS he is stepping on you!! My cats do this too.. it's a HEY!! PAY ATTENTION TO ME NOW thing, I belive.... the laying down thing, I think is a "I want contact" thing

Since he is a foster, how long are you going to have him? He isn't a "forever" dog as a foster. How are you going to deal with having to give him up? Or did you adopt him and he is yours as long as you don't screw something up?

xxblushesxx -> RE: I GOT APPROVED TO FOSTER AND BONES* a deaf dog&* IS HOME WITH ME NOW! (11/22/2011 10:56:42 AM)

She may get to keep him as there is apparently not much demand for a special needs dog. : )

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: I GOT APPROVED TO FOSTER AND BONES* a deaf dog&* IS HOME WITH ME NOW! (11/22/2011 1:53:36 PM)

He's a foster until someone decides they're interested in him, in that case I get first dibs, Or and it has happened some are permanent fosters cause nobody wants them.

You are right blush, there's not much call for special needs babies, so I am thinking Bones won't really be highly adoptable, people want typically a young dog who can fit in easily and is not a lot of work or have lots of special needs. Bones strikes out twice there, being 6 or so, having bad skin, prone to yeast infections, and being deaf, he is very special needs.

LafayetteLady -> RE: I GOT APPROVED TO FOSTER AND BONES* a deaf dog&* IS HOME WITH ME NOW! (11/22/2011 3:33:25 PM)

So is there a time period before you can say you want to be his "forever mommy?"

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: I GOT APPROVED TO FOSTER AND BONES* a deaf dog&* IS HOME WITH ME NOW! (11/22/2011 4:48:57 PM)

I probably could say so right away. However as much as I adore having him I need a chance to see if he responds well to being taught asl, and if he becomes easier to handle when outside my room, cause if he's gonna be this tough to make when in my moms house all the time, he's not really going to be welcome in her house much.

xxblushesxx -> RE: I GOT APPROVED TO FOSTER AND BONES* a deaf dog&* IS HOME WITH ME NOW! (11/22/2011 5:01:40 PM)

Just be firm and strong with him. I have a feeling he'll be a great dog once trained to what you expect.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: I GOT APPROVED TO FOSTER AND BONES* a deaf dog&* IS HOME WITH ME NOW! (11/22/2011 6:14:23 PM)

Ty. He's already so sweet, and loving.

We were playing monopoly and he didn't understand the concept that you can't hover over the board:)) he kept standing there with his head in the middle of the board game.

LafayetteLady -> RE: I GOT APPROVED TO FOSTER AND BONES* a deaf dog&* IS HOME WITH ME NOW! (11/22/2011 11:06:06 PM)

Well, give him the little doggy token and some cash. Let him play!

From my post 86:

5. Claim your space and things

You have these and other troubles because you do not claim your space and things, so he feels free to own them himself.

Stand over the board until he gets it - she wants to have this - and he will back down. Do the same with the door and he will get that he is not allowed near the door.

And if he stands on a person, that may indicate dominance. You do not want him to be dominant. You want him to be submissive.

Go watch episodes of The Dog Whisperer. Go read his books. Dogs have manuals, just like microwaves and washing machines and motor bikes and televisions. It is quite possible for someone to work such machines without having read the manual, but it is more likely that they never learn how to use them properly and that they will screw up. You do not know the dog manual. Go get one.
