Clickofheels -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 5:53:34 PM)

I remember years ago when it was "popular" to rate people on appearance...wow, what an ego booster, huh?

All this "rating" nonsense...all these online "tests" that supposedly rate you or put a label on you...and people just flock to take them!
I just sit back and laugh at all the people who believe it!

Trinity731 -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:06:25 PM)

who said anything about black listing? Its about rating/reviewing character. Holding people accountable to who they are and what they are presenting on this site.

Does Amazon, Ebay or Google black list because of their rating system?

Trinity731 -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:07:51 PM)

Others think its a great idea. It works for companies why not a dating/sex site.

No different than all the complaints people have about the spammers, fakes etc.

TheFireWithinMe -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:09:07 PM)

the difference here is the potential for abuse. Say a "Dom" is turned down, he gets pissed and decides to "rate" her as oh I don't know something nasty and gets his friends to do the same. Not too nice huh.

you dont read the complaints men have about the spammers and the women about the egotistical assholes?

Wow am shocked how people put up with bullshit and dont take action on changing something for the better. Let's live in mediocrity and say we are happy

Fornica -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:10:55 PM)

Your plan is missing some vital organs, dear.

samboct -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:10:56 PM)

"What i am saying is simple, IF you start identifying people as fake -- it's time to step offline and re-acquaint yourself with the real world where there are people who lie, and cheat, and manipulate for create a facade. But if they bleed, they aren't fake.

However, outside of TOS violations of profiles -- many people describe people as fake when they don't live up to -- according to the reader -- the person's profile in the way the reader expects them too. I don't know how many times people have complained people are FAKE slaves or subs or Doms. I think THAt is more of what the OP is speaking about. The site has processes in place to deal with the TOS violations -- so there would be no need to rate those as you should be REPORTING them."

Angel-

You're missing my point- so I'll try again.

There are three categories under discussion:

1) People whose goal is to meet others of similar tastes and desires- i.e. a date.
2) People who want to extort money from these people- i.e. scammers.
3) People who want to taunt people using the site for its primary purpose- i.e. mocking them.

Category 2 is clearly a violation of the TOS- they're scammers and out for a buck.

Underage people are also a simple violation of the TOS- if they're clearly identified as such- but what about youngsters passing themselves off as someone older? This is a gray area- and a bit problematic IMHO.

Category 3)- are people who have no intention of meeting anyone- they're merely looking for targets to torment. It's not much different from the "cool guys making fun of fags" that caused so much anguish for so many years- except this is done electronically and without the physical violence. The object of derision says that these people aren't real because admitting that someone has just been playing with your emotions is adding salt to a wound. It's not that you didn't measure up to some hypothetical dom/dommes, or subs standards (I suspect most of these folks claim to be dom/dommes but I have no data.)- its that the intent was that the standards are set so high or are arbitrary to watch you jump and fail. It's like reality TV- a lot of people love to watch others make fools of themselves. Calling these people "not real" is polite- the accurate words are cruel, mocking, sadists who enjoy tormenting others- in a non-consensual fashion. So yeah, there's a lot of anger here, as well there should be, because what these people are doing isn't very nice, is it?

My suggestion- be more supportive of the people who've just been tormented. Dismissing their concerns as being nonsensical just adds a layer of additional shame when it's the people doing the mocking that deserve opprobrium.

And please note- if these people aren't underage- there's no TOS violation here, is there?

That being said, a system of sorts in which age verification is done, would be ideal, but hard to enforce. I don't envy the moderators on CM.

Trinity731 -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:12:29 PM)

Forget it if people dont want to make changes. Its better to wallow in bullshit than try to make something better.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:13:10 PM)

I don't recall anyone ever saying this was a good idea, except those who start these threads. And a simple search would show you just how unoriginal this idea really is.
Do you imagine what your rating might be based on this thread? But you probably wouldn't agree with it, right?

The potential for abuse is too high, and you should be able to use your OWN brain to decide who to talk to.

Trinity731 -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:13:30 PM)

Has nothing to do with profiles and everything to do with behavior.

playfulotter -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:26:31 PM)

Trinity...The problem is you really don't know someone's "character" until you meet them in person and even then you can't be sure till you know them for awhile...Some people are really good writing profiles and others aren't and the ones who are not good at it could be the good guy or a good choice for you and vice versa...I have found that to be true a few times.

I should have added though....If they are outright scammers you should be able to pick them out easily and not even bother with them at all...Just delete and report.

Fornica -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:35:31 PM)

Now now, no need to get huffy, or imma mark you as a -9 for patience and tolerance.

It's funny how people come into this 'lifestyle' because they feel excluded or marginalized out in 'vanilla' and yet the first thing they seem to want to do is to exclude and marginalize others.

Fornica -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 6:48:29 PM)

Yet another reason I heart Stella.

Wow -- simply wow. You are kidding, right? ITS THE INTERNET. You do realize that yes? If anyone is wallowing in shame or has allowed themselves gto be tormented because of a conversation on the interent -- then they really DO need to get off the internet. Perhaps these people are taking what happens on the internet way to seriously. Hell simply a trip into many of the threads on this site is a lesson on gaining thicker skin, or if you really want flaying try P&R forums. profiles are no different than this message board in terms of allowing shit to mess with your head.

Trinity, you are right it has to do with behavior -- YOUR behavior because that is the ONLY thing you are able to control. So just like off line you control your own behavior -- it is the same online, and if you allow profiles to get to you, instead of utilizing the ability to report, block and hide, that is YOUR behavioral issue. Profiles are just like offline, you have a vast variety of types -- just like offline, realize you will encounter all the same concepts online as off and online you have the added bonus of anon. So realize that and use the tools given to you to make YOUR stay here better, and lean to vet those you allow close. Use your filters. The only behavior you can control on here is yours, the only reactions you can control are yours. If you don't like wondering, put a deadline on meeting the people you are speaking too and getting to know them offline.

Learn that and your stay on a free anonymouis nickname site will be a lot less stressful. People who have learned this don't wallow in the bullshit because they have taken steps they can take to filter out the bullshit. The choice is yours.

Lucylastic -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 7:00:36 PM)

With Ebay and Amazon, The reason they stopped blacklisting people was because of the ease of corrupting the facts with people who had a grudge, unstable people and people with personality issues, and little follow thru.....Their lawyers were the only happy people

All of which you will find on ANY personals site, forum or social media. the numbers are amazingly high
stupid bloody idea rating people on their character in an online medium

samboct -> RE: Review/rating system for profiles (12/4/2011 7:06:24 PM)

I'm not so sure that some type of system to detect the "taunters" for lack of a better word is unworkable.

Look, anyone who actually shows up for a date is going to have at least some people thinking they're a human being- its just an extrapolation of how dating in the "nilla" world works. Yes, you may piss off a few individuals, but it's just a few- and the ratio will probably be somewhere around 50/50. Might be 1 in 3 think that you're a reasonable person-but probably not much lower.

However, the taunters are probably going to have ratios of like 1 in 10 or worse- i.e. 1 in a hundred. Nobody's ever met them, nobody ever will. So they're going to have very different values than "real" people. Allowing one vote per profile and allowing people only to rate say 5 profiles a week or less will make it harder to game the system, but of course it will be possible. It's not a fast process to spot the taunters if they're doing things well, but it might help identify these people.

This wouldn't be a perfect system- and would probably increase the burden on the CM moderators staff unless it could be automated.

You cannot come up with an example of how something like this could be implemented. Basically, blacklisting is against tos... this could be used by persons or groups of people blacklisting, harassing and stalking people. The day you come up with something productive that doesn't lead to a whole slew of other problems, legal and otherwise... you can state we are wallowing in shit and don't want to change it. Until then you are clueless on how to run a huge site with a lot of child-like people on it.

The way I see it, you are wallowing. We are getting on with it and enjoying adult company and ignoring or blocking those we don't want to see or hear from. Which is more adult? Handle your own business or ask mommy and daddy site owners to handle it for you? Care to find one site online that doesn't have some issues with slime? I'd sure like to know where it is.

Don't like it... create and fund your own site and you call the shots. Until then you are just a whiner with a bad idea, blaming others and acting as if they are wrong, when you clearly are.
