LadyHibiscus -> RE: Intriguing Usernames (12/5/2011 7:40:06 PM)

I haven't read the other responses, I will have to go back later...

My name is Francine, and I have never been able to use it on a kink site because Francine is evidently a popular name among the crossdressers! When I ditched SadisticPrincess, I wanted to be myself, but alas it was not to be...so I went with Hibiscus, which is my nic on the vanilla boards, my artist name, and the name of my (former) jewelry & artwear business. I wanted a name that folks CALLED me by, yanno?

It's funny how many folks don't even know what a hibiscus is! Hence the avatar of the flower.

My nic isn't that unusual, but there is a story.

I had 2 years of German way back in HS and we had to pick our own names for the class. I kind of dragged my feet and all the "prettier"names were soon gone from the list and I was looking at Dagmar.
The German teacher had had my mother in school for French class and had a sweet spot for me as a result and she personally chose Angelika for me (hard G).

I have had a sweet spot for the name since.

A very endearing story.

I was gonna name myself SuzieQ....but some damn woman had already taken it.

I think I'm gonna go with Francine.

Ah Hibiscus, that sensual looking blossom of the Malvaceae Family, the same family from which we get marshmallows, which are made from the root sap of the marsh mallow (Althaea officinalis) plant. Both wonderful edible/medicinals!

Pam, I've been looking forward to your contribution here. As a Kipling fan, I'm familiar with the poem. Would love to know your motivation for making it your name, if you care to share that.

My dad used to call me that, for trying to be a good person without being recognized for it.  At work, i was known for bringing water to the guys on the hot line during service.  They couldn't leave if they got thirsty, and it was real hot back there.  The chef called me Gunga Din.  And once as a teenager, i gave water to a crew of gardeners who were suffering from the heat.  The foreman was so impressed that he had a talk with my mom, much to my embarrassment.  i guess i identify with the character in the poem.

Mons  my name came from reading romance novels and it always had it
somewhere in the book, before they would use the true term of a women
gentle "nether regions" they would say has he reach her mons it was hot and
moist , so i wanted something no one else had i like it!!!!! Hell it is what it is i love it.

Thank goodness it didn't refer to The Battle of Mons, although that could be an amusing double entendre in itself on this kind of a site!

DustyPearls your name i do really like!!

Awww, thank you dear. I like it too.

That's such a nice story and you are a good person. I certainly hope you have a better  and longer life than your namesake.

Hannah Lynn thinks the name is really appropriate for Pam because of that line, she thinks very highly of Pam and has often said Pam is a better person than most.

As far as my username, Hannah Lynn chose it. My name is Cheri, and I guess she thinks I'm sweet. :)

NuevaVida -> RE: Intriguing Usernames (12/5/2011 9:42:08 PM)

I was in the beginning processes of making some very big changes in the direction I wanted my life to go.  What I had been doing was certainly *not* working for me.  So I was embarking on a new life.  Being Spanish, I wanted my name to reflect that, as well.  Hence, NuevaVida, for my new life.

(ETA:  Not sure why CM has disfigured my avatar - hope it fixes itself soon!!)

hausboy -> RE: Intriguing Usernames (12/5/2011 9:50:48 PM)

hausboy......well, the houseboy part is for obvious reasons.....some of my first experiences in the BDSM community were as a houseboy, although at the time, I spelled it "houseboi"   The spelling "haus" emerged as I was writing an erotic fiction series chronicling the life of houseboy from Germany. ("haus" of course, the German word for "house")

This thread had me curious...so I did look up "haus" in the urban dictionary...and six definitions down, apparently "haus" can be used as slang for the male anatomy.  I assure you that was entirely unintentional.

edited for typos...because it's entirely too late and I need to go bed....
