I used to say it's because I hang from trees and tinkle in the wind.

Truth is, the night I joined up, I wanted a new name but couldn't think of one. I was living along the coast then, and the autumn gale force winds coming across the bay were making the wind chimes I had on the porch clang like church bells. I said, ok, and created windchymes, adding the 'y' just for shits and grins. That's all, wish I had a really touching story like so many here do :)

Perhaps you underestimate the value and effect your name has. I find it light, charming and whimsical.

Well, I'm charming and whimsical, 2 outta 3..... [;)]

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: Intriguing Usernames (12/5/2011 1:20:58 PM)

Mine was given to me by NocturnalStalker, he called me "Heather McLeather" in a post he was ripping into me and Hanners in and it was meant to be sort of an insult, but I loved it, so when I made my own profile I chose that name. I use it a lot and its now one of my many nicknames, at school I'm generally called McLeather.

Ishtar is my first name.

My father is student of ancient religions and myths, my and my sisters' and brother's names that are derived from his interest in such.
Ishtar is the Assyrian and Babylonian goddess of fertility, love, war, and sex.

Interestingly enough, a sister of mine is named after a Goddess of serenity and peace, and we've both been told that we fit out names perfectly.

When I translated this to arabic,
100 % correct

I am fascinated by the many beautiful and unusual usernames on this site, and wonder if any would be willing to share their meanings, and the reasons behind having chosen them.

I came up with the top 500 best ones....gave away about 15 or so just to get the ball rolling/goose the market so to speak...now I make a six figure income simply on the monthly rentals of same.

I've always thought yours was very clever.

Mine doesn't take a lot of discernment (sadly) LOL.

Because I didn't want to use the name the public commonly knows me by I had to pick one that "fit" So I picked one that had more than one meaning, to me at least. The first does have a little to do with bdsm. W.H.A.P. is what I do so most people that see the name can get the thought behind it. The deeper one that few understand is a personal thing. I believe everyone is guilty of something and everyone should feel real pain for what they have done. I believe it can raise them to a higher level within themself that they may not be able to reach any other way. Add to that the belief that pain is, in and of it's self, immortal and you will end up with my name.

*oh* and I hate the word mistress so I never let anyone call me that. I let them slide if they can remember to just say Miss.

I LOVED that magazine!  So sad to see it go away (in print anyway).

(Looks like it's no longer online either:  http://www.whapmag.com/ )

Mine is pretty straight forward. I enjoy mummification bondage. Stretch wrap & duct tape, latex and a few other forms as well. :)

Oh....Mummylicious!

Lawdy Lawdy, heaven knows we are all deserving of bit of Whapping, now and again.

If not Mistress, can one call you MIP?

Using FR, since I could care less about the troll.

My nick is french for perfect cat (or perfect pussy, if you will), and was giving to me by the main man in my life.

It is either an oxymoron (how can any cat be perfect, they are so bad?) or a redundancy (all cats are perfect! duh!), depending on your take on pussies er cats.

Personally, I'm so bad I'm good.

I am enjoying the many responses, so ty Dusky.

I'm thinking they can be simultaneously oxymoronic and true. Anyone who truly gets cats knows that. And as for the pussy part, well...

MadAxeman -> RE: Intriguing Usernames (12/5/2011 6:16:43 PM)

Eccentric.
Guitar player.
Male.

I do forget the wider connotations and sometimes get a tremulous 'eep' or something similar after simply saying hello.

angelikaJ -> RE: Intriguing Usernames (12/5/2011 6:32:48 PM)

My nic isn't that unusual, but there is a story.

I had 2 years of German way back in HS and we had to pick our own names for the class. I kind of dragged my feet and all the "prettier"names were soon gone from the list and I was looking at Dagmar.
The German teacher had had my mother in school for French class and had a sweet spot for me as a result and she personally chose Angelika for me (hard G).

I have had a sweet spot for the name since.

I'm not a hill billy, I'm a hill-william, I have most of my teeth
