My dd's class put on a holiday show last year. The original intention was to talk about all the different kinds of religions and what they celebrate this time of year.
Every religion except for Christianity. Seriously. They finally *did* end up adding Christianity as an afterthought. (like an afterthought because a bunch of parents called them on their hypocrisy)
I don't mind celebrating and talking about all of the different religions and holidays but leaving out Christianity was wrong. So yeah, sometimes it does feel as if there is a war on Christianity.

Happy Seasonal Celebrations to ALL. I as a Christian celebrate Christmas for the birth of Christ. However, if someone says Happy Holidays to me, I am appreciative and will return in kind. I generally don't say Merry Christmas to the masses unless I know they celebrate Christmas. There are so many reasons to celebrate, that to narrow it down to one particular holiday is nothing more than selfish. Definitely not the spirit of the holiday season.

Or it could be that Christianity is already well represented everywhere else this time of year, and they were trying to present a different point of view to their students. That's part of education.
In any case, blowing up at someone ( in the OP's case) or posting nasty things on my Facebook wall about non Christians ruining "their" holiday ( which is what happened to me) is hardly likely to win converts. I don't believe in Christian myths and I am not going to pretend like I do. How is saying " Happy Holidays" an assault on anyone's religion?
In fact, with everything going on in the world today, I wonder how simple minded some people must be if this is the kind of shit that they worry about.

Eh, we all have our own priorities. What a boring world it would be were we all the same.
Leaving out Christianity was wrong, just as it would have been wrong to leave out other major religions. Not *everyone* knows about Christianity or has heard of Christ.
Of course blowing up at him was wrong, and writing strange things on your facebook is wrong. Some people are wired quite tight, and just can't understand that not everyone will share their world view.
Personally, I would have done as Angel does and just said "happy whatever" or "merry whatever" the person said to me. It doesn't hurt anyone, and it makes the other person feel validated. (whether you believe what they do or not)

No, I think I'll be rude now, pointing out that you probably did not read the entire post, or the followups; but stopped reading as soon as your panties are in a bunch, and instead of pulling out of the crack of your ass like a big girl and going about your day; you decided to make a pair of baseless observations with absolutely nothing to back them up other than the idea that you apparently disagree with me on some point.

There were a number of other who happened to disagree with me, and guess what they did? They made intelligent and witty comments and observations based on their own knowledge, beliefs and experience.

I would, in turn, tell you to grow up; but I find that would be redundant. Instead, I'm going to suggest you get that stick out of your ass; it's gotta be uncomfortable wedged sideways like that.

Yep, I think that where I was finally being rude.

By the way, I'm a freely acknowledged asshole; but at least I make a (usually successful) attempt to back my shit up.

I kind of see it from a view similar to darchChylde (great to see you posting btw)..

Not so much the hassle over 'Merry Christmas' and 'Happy Holidays' (just goes to show some people get so anal a butt plug could become a permanent fixture)..

My irritation is more to do with the fact that some see Christmas as an opportunity to slack off or goof off anytime between the end of November and the second week of January, getting hit upon, leered at or even groped by those outside the pub or staggering home from a Christmas party at the office, and those who take the opportunity during the 'season of goodwill' to be especially unpleasant, nasty or self-centered.. Nothing much to do with Christianity though, Christmas is stressful and some people just can't hack it.

I'm also put off by being called anti-social, miserable, sad, selfish, or socially inept simply because I choose not exclude myself from the festivities. I'm not a Christian, I live alone, I don't have a family or anyone in my life, and if I'm not spending it with the forgotten or voluntary work I'm actually grateful for the few days of peace, solitude and the chance to catch up or do something creative without being disturbed.

But my biggest gripe is being subjected to WHAM and 'last Christmas I gave you my heart, and the very next day...' almost without fail.. I stop listening to the radio, I sneak around supermarkets like a cat burglar, I start wearing ear plugs, I'm so determined to get through to January unscathed by WHAM but have yet to succeed. I usually end up getting caught, groaning and 'Oh no, not again..'

However this year after hearing so much of people losing jobs, struggling to find jobs, not having money, dealing with debt collectors, struggling to find somewhere to live, struggling with health issues and so on I'm cutting everyone more slack than before..

But I also try to keep perspective, because from my experience I know that if it wasn't for Christians and corporations many of the homeless in Central London would starve.

I'm not religious but I had somebody once go off on me because I wished her happy Xmas, I just lost it and said "If it makes you feel better, I wish you a miserable Xmas" and walked off.
