You misunderstand. I don't really care whether people "respect" my beliefs or not. I am not demanding people NOT say "merry christmas" to me, or that all religious displays be removed because they might offend me. Nor am I seeking converts to my way of thinking. I don't go door to door handing out pamphlets about atheism, for example. My response to one of the offending facebook posts was one of the rare times that I have publicly announced that I even am an atheist. By the way, it shows up on my wall, it was intended to show up on my wall, how is it not a wall posting? I posted on another thread about mentioning my dad was an atheist in a facebook post about planning his funeral, and getting a response from some chick that "he wasn't an atheist now that he had met jesus". I didn't feel the need to tell her what a tasteless, bullshit thing that was to say, even though it was. As I recall, I responded rather politely by sending her the beautiful eulogy we read at his funeral. In any case, I am not necessarily asking for respect for my beliefs, I just wish people would shut the fuck up about theirs. I am certainly happy to do the same. Like I said, I am not seeking converts and I don't feel the need to proselytize. Regardless of your personal beliefs, I find Christian myths (or deeply held beliefs, depending on your point of view) no more credible than tales of Zeus, Hera and Mars. I don't believe them at all and I want to hear about them even less. You are probably right about the holiday program blushes, or whoever it was, was talking about. Excluding Christianity, while including other religions' myths, was probably not well balanced, if nothing else. It isn't like Christianity is something to be frightened of. quote:

ORIGINAL: Iamsemisweet The people who posted on Facebook did not specifically post to your wall. You had them listed as friends and when they posted to their own wall, it showed up on yours. It is a subtle difference. It still doesn't make it right, and I delete those kinds of posts if they show up on my wall. I do believe in those "myths," but I honestly don't care for people ranting like that about it. Honestly though, it is not all that much different from you calling those beliefs "myths" when it comes to being insulting. You want people to respect your beliefs, you might try offering a little respect in return.
