and no, sex would be fun but really i am exhausted.

Here's the thing, my car is getting old and tired -- poor baby. It has done me proud for 9.7 months and over 100K miles -- Honda Accord.

But i am going to want a new car in the next two years and was wondering as to some ideas people do or have in making extra money without actually getting a part time job. I work anywhere from 50-80 hours a week and no, i don't get OT lol. I tend to be exhausted and i am really trying to learn to work an 8 hour day lol as is my fault per my boss.

So i am hoping not to have a parttime job i need to be responsible in attending --i.e., i was hoping for ideas that will allow you to make your own schedule and such and stuff one can do at home. So i can filter away the money for a downpayment on a new car.

any thoughts or ideas as to what you all do or know works?

angel

Is there a way you can turn a hobby into something that makes you extra money?

I do photography and while I've made some money, I have spent more than I've made. However that has been my choice and there are other things that don't require so much spent.

grins, will you all start paying me for pissing you off on the discussion boards? I'd open a paypal account and everything lol.

Unfortunately, work tends to be my hobby lol and i want working out to become same but i am not in a position to really make either of those into extra money right now. But maybe in a year or so i can become a coach.

My brain just doesn't give me ideas lol. during the first of the year i am going to clean out my storage area and start selling my glass collection as i have no place for them.

If there's a local college, see if they have tutoring gigs available.

I don't know if this is actually profitable or not, but I know a few people who buy things and then sell them online. I have to assume they make a profit (otherwise why do it) but I don't know if they are buying things that they specifically have a trained eye for, or if they're just swindling people, or what.

Or...freelance writing?

sell blood and plasma, sell things on ebay, save up all your spare change, hawk things at the pawn shop, borrow it,  put in your profile that you're accepting tributes and include a paypal email address. You don't seem to have to do anything...just sit back and watch it roll in.

Ren errands for people, walk dogs, house sit, clean houses, use a hobby to make money, cook for others.....

I buy and sell craft and metaphysical books on Ebay.  They cover my yarn purchases and McCaffrey collection.  I am sitting up an Etsy account so I can sell my crocheted items.  I got a small tin going on my loose change.

The latest book sale covered the Christmas presents for the family.

You can sell books online pretty well. You can go to thrift stores or book sales and pick up books and resell them.
Also, look for ways to minimize your costs. I dunno what your habits are, but trim things like coffees or expensive lunches if you can. Do you like clothes from thrift stores (do you buy a lot of clothes at all)? There's often a lot of extra monney to be found just by trimminng habits, even seemingly minor things.
You can do odd jobs like shoveling walks for neighbors (counts as exercise). Recycle cans or any other metal stuff you have through scrap metal facilities. metal prices fluctuate but it's helpful.
Any crafting skills? You can do pretty well on etsy but honestly you do have to treat it like a second job.. I made monney selling hand-made dace accessories, though, and did it kinda haphazardly.
It's getting too cold for garage sales here, but if you live somewhere warm, that's an option.

AneNoz, shut up.

Seriously dude, if you can't talk without sounding like a fortune cookie, just go away.

everyone else, thanks for the ideas, keep them coming. The more i hear the more ideas it gives me to consider --

I have a friend who has made some money doing the buying and selling of items, but she seems to have a knack for picking out things but she also does a lot of "research so to speak on ebay and stuff to see what is selling and such.

Steven, tutoring is a thought but i tend to be a little as my niece once put it -- Aunt angel you want a good grade more than i do so can you tone down the excitment already

lil little wonder if only it was that easy -- at least for me -- some people actually can do all that.

Lilly those are good ideas but really, i don't want to work that hard lol to do this. The books idea though is interesting and one i may look into, i have access to all kinds of used book stores, which may help me make some money if i play it right. What i need to do is really focus on a craft i can do well, i am good at image poems and i want to learn to use resin with words and stuff.

I guess i am hoping to find something that isn't going to be a lot of work but is more like fun. Hobby is good but i really don't have a hobby yet and my energy just is too low to really put a lot of effort into learning one. But i do like that book idea -- it never occured to me really people will pay for books because most places have used book stores all around.

I think Anenoz may have meant to buy another Honda. No shit, they do have a hell of a good record. I have never owned one but my family has an they were great. They drove me to the parts store when my Olds' or Chevies broke down.

More later.

Hi angel,

How about ask for a raise? In all seriousness... will you consider doing that?

I sell books on ebay (and amazon) and sell fabrics on etsy and sell various things like craft kits on eCrater. But although it's a fun hobby (I adore thrift store searching), and I have made some money, it does take time and effort to develop the expertise. (I know a lot about vintage and antique fabrics, and it started with a love of sewing). It's taken ten years (and costly mistakes) to finally know what I can buy for 2.00 and sell for fifty, and how to take great photographs and descriptive copy, and build an online reputation. Selling your glass is a good starting point because you presumably know a lot about it already.

My friend tosses his change in the otherwise-useless ashtray in his car. Every once in a while, he'll collect it all together from various stash zones. It doesn't take too much work.
If pack lunches and make coffee at home, you can save money (and save gas) - but if you already do that, no biggie.

And yeah, the book thing is actually a really good deal. There's always someone looking for some odd book, even if it's one you've never heard of. :p

Are you talkig about clear resin with words underneath? A lot of people really do go for that kind of thing, as necklaces, earrings, fridge magnets, etc - good luck :)

Oh i am getting a raise in January - it's already negotiated and i will take that and instead of getting used to having it -- will put it right into savings.

So along with cutting back -- BLAH lol i am spoiled i hate cutting back, not taking my raise to use but to save, and my bonuses over the next two years going into savings, i figured being able to make a little more on the side without actually having a 2nd job i am responsible to go too, i wanted something more easily flexible.

I think i may try the book thing and maybe seeing if i can tell what sells on ebay and stuff and the other site you mentioned. Maybe i will get lucky and find my hidden talent lol.

If you go the etsy route, just understand that it is pretty competitive and it does start to take up a lot of time.
There's also artfire, which is similar.

cool, i want to let you know lilly lol when i was reading your post about cutting back and (for the love of god) SHOVELING grins, i was whining outloud but but but LILLLLLLLLYY i don't wanna work that hard! lol

Yes i figured it is all pretty competative and i am a novice at anything i do even if i am good at it, so it may take a bit to figure it all out. But it seems my insomnia is starting up again so maybe i will do it in my not sleeping sleep lol.
