How did this thread get derailed to the inept, deer in the headlights, lawless goons and thugs, rat-poison republican house?

In any case, the repubs' actions appear to violate NEPA, https://m.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.huffingtonpost.com%2F2011%2F12%2F12%2Fkeystone-xl-state-department_n_1144570.html%3Fref%3Dpolitics%26ir%3DPolitics&h=gAQEy8vOg&refid=20&_ft_a=1577310052&_ft_tf=153218874784785&_ft_tpi=1577310052&_ft_ti=17&_ft_fth=3146d176fd2850e4&_ft_time_ft=1323789768&_ft_mf_objid=153218874784785&cb=5

That is actually not the case. There are situations where private companies have been given eminent domain rights. In the 90s, for example, when private companies were laying the fiber optic system, they had the right of eminent domain, I represented a couple of land owners in disputes where the cable had been laid on their land, without their permission. They had no redress except to accept payment. The payment didn't come from the gov., it came from Sprint, as I recall

A quick question about the pipeline.

I have heard from those on the right that it won't cost the taxpayers a dime. Tis a good thing but I have a question.

Who will buy the land? Eminent Domain is a governmental privelege.

Exxon or whoever is building the line cannot exercise eminent domain in the event one or more property owners don't want to play ball.
That would be the job of the federal government and that costs a buncha money. It also opens up the nasty fact of a governmental body excercising eminent domain so that a private corporation can make money. I didn't like it when it was done a couple of years ago for a developer and I don't like it for this purpose either.

Would the government be building the line and then leasing it to the oil company? If so, that's a bunch of our tax dollars at work but at least there is a possibility of a profit.

I'm aware that private companies are given eminent domain rights. I even cited an example. I feel this is wrong. The government should not be allowed to exercise eminent domain in order to line the pockets of politically connected corporations or developers.

Your campaign donations shouldn't be able to kick me out of my house.

Sorry, Hill, must not have read carefully enough.

My house is actually part of a corridor that is being considered for construction of a giant powerline.  It is a drag having this hang over my head, and it made the property unsaleable.  One of the many reasons why I am considering just signing the joint over to the bank.

Again,

No. He made a veto threat.

The pipeline itself is still in limbo on his account, you should know this because it has been in the news for months and months now, and we have had multiple threads on the subject in these forums

He made a decision.. just not one you approve of.
You should be used to that by now

Actually he never used the word "veto", he said reject. He's even voting "present" in his speeches.
