No question of that, just as there is no question that the US itself has been responsible for an extraordinary number of people horribly killed, tortured, raped, and so on, and the fact that Iraq was not some dearmland fairytale while your soldiers were there (it was worse than before they arrived), nor is it now that they are leaving.

Sorry, Sanity, it'll take several years before we find out if things will be better or worse than they were under Saddam.  We won't be able to balance the improvement (I hope there IS some) against the US' sacrifices until then.

Just giving the people of Iraq a shot at self governance is an achievement worthy of the sort of high praise that Obama is laying down

Obama actually praised the achievement, our achievement in Iraq

Which by extension is high praise of the Bush Doctrine. Read Obamas Ft Bragg speech (which I linked to above) and if youre honest with yourself you may come to understand that what we, America as a whole have achieved in Iraq along with out allies is something to be quite proud of, regardless of which side of the aisle you are on

He praised the troops, did not use the word achievement in that speech just as he did not use the word liberate.  He didn't extend shit to W and the rest of the rightwing traitors.

So, I know the right wing wants to desperately co-opt something honorable and something other than inept idiocy out of this, but not gonna happen while people can still breathe.

The claim that Iraqis were "were way better off under Saddam" is highly irrational on my opinion

It reeks of intentionally ignoring the situation in Iraq prior to the liberation effort

And the Iraqi people were far from alone in their suffering on account of Saddam as well
