Maybe I just have bad taste in women.

yup I'd say it's your taste in women. I've been supporting myself since I was 16 and most likely always will.

I was a single mom who raised a beautiful and thriving daughter and to this day she supports herself as well.

Maybe start taking a look at the women you are attracted to and ask yourself some serious questions.

This is the Satere Mawe tribe of the Amazon.  This rite involves young men wearing gloves laced with a hundred or so angry bullet ants which secrete an incredibly painful neurotoxin.  To be considered a man, the initiate must wear the gloves for 10 minutes.  After removing them, the pain only increases and it takes 24 hours for the neurotoxin to dissipate.

There's just one catch.  They have to do it 20 times.

Many men in Western societies are soft, indecisive and unfit to lead.  This is why so many women complain about them.  There's a lack of personal ethics, standards and goals which make them a pale shadow of their forebears.  Not everyone has the desire to be a captain of industry, but every man can have a code of ethics, some goals in his life and the stones to accept personal responsibility for outcomes.

i know right? i've been saying for years that more monstrously painful rites de passage involving hideous insects created by some vengeful chthonic god is just what society needs. after all it is in the excruciating liminal limbo before reaggregation that character is formed, n'est-ce pas?

oy vey bro, i am going to start reading your posts more carefully from now on because there is some seriously impressive day-glo hallucinogenic batshit hidden in the banal, condescending sanctimony. :D

Your answer is thankfully NO.

too many dudes in their 30s still refuse to grow up and most of these guys pretty much want a mother more than a girlfriend. now this is a complaint i hear frequently from women i'm close to and i'd like to hear some feedback on it from internet strangers.

I'm an internet stranger and former Marine So I qualify to give my opinion? Yes. Were any of those women you talked to sisters, mothers, aunts, grandmothers to the any of the Men that have served in our Armed Forces? Could you be talking about any of the 30 year old males that fought (and continue to fight) with every ounce of spirit, body and mind overseas in the most horrible conditions?

97% of the causalties over in the middle east wars were Men. 3% women.

Your bridges are made, your schools built, churches, fires fought, students taught, websites built. Sons and daughters taught. Wars fought.

My brother complains that his wife continues to cut their meat for their teen-aged children 14 & 17, and iron their clothes (he has many times offered to instruct them "How to iron yours clothes"), but she fuses.... as she claims that she wants to DO IT and be "nice" to her children. So instead she irons their clothes FOR them. instead of showing them how. Mothers do this ...

your post is misandric and genaralizes men. manginas like you should know fathers and males in general do matter. Like it or not. Some of us are good men. you excluded. man-up.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: do american men have a hard time growing up? (12/20/2011 6:49:32 PM)

Servant? You might want to check your sarcasm gland.

And thanks ever so for blaming women for everything, I so appreciate that. "Mangina', too, that's very female-positive.

Servant4Queen -> RE: do american men have a hard time growing up? (12/20/2011 7:08:18 PM)

My gland is just fine thank you for your concern.

I DONT blame women for everything. If i did state that please point that out factually. What I dont appreciate is a blanket statement and blantant insinuation that american men are man-boys as the OP casually points out. Many Men, including myself, are sick and tired of men being devalued , especailly when it comes from a male.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: do american men have a hard time growing up? (12/20/2011 7:14:30 PM)

Ah, so you were just giving men credit for pretty much everything, thn, and only calling up the image of your SIL as ana example? Thanks.

You have strikes against you when dealing with some female dominants on this site, you are a former Marine and therein respect manhood as you define it, are guided by codes of conduct that demand self-respect, self-sufficiency and the capability of understanding and touching emotion both in yourself and others. Qualities outstretching the wildest imagination of those who have so filled themselves with themselves they cannot day by day even remotely define themselves.

Yeah I know it was a home invasion, SB. Have you ever been to the Ford mansion on the lake? They have the kids rooms set up so it's a maze for an outisder to get in!

Sadly no I did not, part of my birth defect is a lack of binocular vision. But many of us did not pack the gear, for a variety of reasons. Are you only looking for other Marines, then?

Lordandmaster -> RE: do american men have a hard time growing up? (12/21/2011 6:50:27 AM)

Ah yes, what better way to tell whether a man has personal ethics, standards, and goals than to make him sting himself with bullet ants twenty times over ...

What I've seen, to be honest, is this: fewer and fewer men in their 30's want to get married, because they don't see the benefit, and women respond that they're just being childish. A related complaint is that men are "afraid of commitment." They're not afraid of commitment, sweetheart; they're just not sure they want to get on line to lose half their shit.

Here's Bill Burr's take on it:

That makes me sad, LaM. In my line of work I see a lot of divorced people, and hear a lot of stories. I see a lot of kids caught in the crossfire, too. Should we be offering a prenup class along with a marriage license? Maybe! I don't like seeing two people supposedly beginning a partnership and then demanding mine/yours on everything. If you want to put labels on everything, why move in together?

Not committing if you don't want to is great good sense.

Hmmm...have to chime in. The biggest douchebags that I have had to shut off in my 20 plus years of bartending are military dudes. Always. Looking for fights, hitting on other guys girls, cheap as fuck tippers and about as mature as 5th graders. Can't handle their liquor and when they come in in groups it's a horror show. Cocky loud and obnoxious.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: do american men have a hard time growing up? (12/21/2011 7:10:53 AM)

I have had 3 significant relationships in my life. One was a man- boy who wanted to be taken care of and threw tantrums when he wasn't. My ex husband and my current love have their flaws, but lack of maturity was not one of them. Two out of three ain't bad, I guess.
