The last sentence is what really made the article, IMO.

Wow

The suit claims the pilot wanted them off the plane because he thought their presence would make other passengers uncomfortable. The men are described in the suit as having beards and "traditional Arabic clothing."

i have a beard, and i occasionally wear a ridiculous looking dashiki. i'm absolutely certain i often make those around me uncomfortable, because i'm sometimes just an all-round irritating kind of dude (though to my credit i usually smell like sandalwood and chanel). basically, i guess my life would be pretty difficult in america except that, thankfully, i never leave home without my protective bubble of white male privilege!

Ash.. it was that last sentence. the irony was just too sad, IMO.

AleyaShifert -> RE: 2 Muslim men kicked off flight sue airlines (12/20/2011 11:13:53 AM)

What is even more sad is the fact that they (American mostly from what I have see) extrapolate the action of certain extremist to a wider Muslim population. How much Muslim are there in the world? How much of them can be considered extremist? Out of those extremist, how much are real terrorist? A very very very small fraction with several decimal places if you take it in terms of percentage. Now how much Muslim are preyed upon for retaliation? A LOT!

If I stick to American, in public they are not so open about terrorism and what they think of THE terrorist (ALL Muslim are terrorist apparently). But give them a keyboard and a forum... they start to voice out how ALL Muslim should be flushed out of America, how Muslim is corrupting the society, how all Muslim should die and how Muslim are rapist. Don't look too far, just open the link in the main post and read the comments. How can one be so uneducated to generalize to that extent? Some people don't realize that Muslims comes in all size, race, color, personality, etc, etc.. They just assume all Muslim are single minded people who works as a whole to take over the world. As cartoon-ish this picture might be, it actually reflect the real perception of how peoples in America view Muslim.

I, as a Muslim woman, condemn the act of terrorism and the slaughter of innocent peoples. One of the biggest act of terrorism which have forever mark the world (specially the United States) is the attack on the World Trade Center. Back when that happened, I was like 11-12 something, I did NOT enjoyed what happened. Today, I am a 22 years old woman, I condemn the action of those terrorist. Islam is a religion of peace and respect, as surprising as it may sound to some! Terrorism is an act which does not find its place in Islam.

Well, I will apply the brake here. Have a nice day people.
Aleya

ashjor911 -> RE: 2 Muslim men kicked off flight sue airlines (12/20/2011 12:06:36 PM)

if its greedy that would spank me...... damn i am in ....

is it a problem that i have no comment on that issue?

GreedyTop -> RE: 2 Muslim men kicked off flight sue airlines (12/20/2011 12:08:23 PM)

not a problem Ash.. but curious what YOU think about it. the no comment thing is fine with me, though.

ashjor911 -> RE: 2 Muslim men kicked off flight sue airlines (12/20/2011 12:34:20 PM)

well,
the thing is, they got offended, & they are Suing the airline...they are going to be paid.....

you dont want me to defend Islam , you want to know how people which are not Muslims defend Islam in the us.

or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_ihf_oPvlg

people fear what they do not understand, & maybe they just dont want to understand,
its their right to have fear, but its not someone right to tell me that i can not ride that plane, just because i am a Muslim.
when you Imagine that happening to you, you can not react on the matter, when your whole life have no freedom..

honestly, if i was in that Position, i really dont know what to do at that time.

TheFireWithinMe -> RE: 2 Muslim men kicked off flight sue airlines (12/20/2011 2:15:02 PM)

Which from your post appears to be the same way you view Americans.

This case will settle and be confidential as well as be a no admission settlement.   All in all, the suit won't really mean much except money in the pocket of the Plaintiffs, which makes me wonder if it's the principle they are after or just being paid for what they see as an insult.  To me, if this is a suit to deal with the principle of the actions and mindsets, then they shouldn't make any demand and simply put it before a jury.

Unfortunately, i really doubt this is anything but dollar signs in the eyes of the Plaintiffs and the attorneys, not about the principle.  But that's usually what most lawsuits are about when a suit is filed.

And you know this how?

barelynangel -> RE: 2 Muslim men kicked off flight sue airlines (12/20/2011 2:27:27 PM)

Because i work in law and most cases are about that.   Go figure - experience is how i KNOW this.  As i said, IF it's not about the money, they won't make a demand and they will actually take the case through trial and allow a jury to determine the matter.   So we will see, however, i know it's in the best interest of the airline to settle the case they WILL demand confidentiality and a no admission of liability -- if they don't get it them their attorneys aren't worth what they get paid.  The other concept is the insurance company of the airline will want to settle because it costs them less.  The Plaintiff's IF this case is about the principle of the matter, would want to take it through to trial, and not settle.

We shall see.  But go figure, working in law and dealing with major corporation lawsuits and the dollar amounts they are able to offer -- you tend to get a feel for cases and where they are going and what they are about.

FYI -- no lol i am not part of the legal team either Plaintiff or Defense.  I just realized the case was filed in Western District Court of TN and occured in Memphis.  I just checked the filings and they have a deficiency in the Complaint and are being required to refile it within a day.

The plaintiffs are the following:

An Arabic-language adjunct professor at the University of Memphis originally from Pakistan

religious leader at the Islamic Association of Greater Memphis originally from Egypt

Also, they are being represented by COUNCIL ON AMERICAN-ISLAMIC RELATIONS.

Interestingly, According to the Complaint, the Delta supervisor and a higher up tried to get the men on the plane and it was only the pilot who refused to allow them on the plane.

Agreed and I also agree with you that they will settle and take the money.

barelynangel -> RE: 2 Muslim men kicked off flight sue airlines (12/20/2011 2:46:30 PM)

I am curious even though the pilot was an employee of Delta, he wasn't added individually to the Complaint as it appears he was the one who solely and completely refused to allow them on the plane.  On principle they could have added him.  He may have gotten dismissed but again, if its the principle they are after, and their whole complaint outlines how Delta supervisors and such were attempting to have the pilot change his mind and the fact they gave the passengers an out who would have been uncomfortable to take a later flight and get a generous voucher as the pilot was indicating people would be uncomfortable -- it makes no sense they didn't include the pilot on principle as a defendant.

Their request for Relief doesn't have a monetary demand but requests some good principle relief, i.e., injunction etc as well as compensatory against both Delta and ASA as well as punitive to be determined by a jury
