I chose an older man because of the potential I saw in him for a long term relationship. And because, in a D/s sense at first, we were drawn to each other like magnet to steel. My boy is balding and has all kinds of health problems that make him feel like he has less to offer me than the younger studs, sometimes he is confused and insecure over why I chose him instead of someone else. I am working on the insecurity, but that takes time, and as for the confusion I sort of explained it this way: ...because 20 something year old guys just did not seem to have that submissive presence that fully matured male subs have... 
IMO, guys in their low twenties might make terrific subs for short term, but sooner or later...he will meet some young woman and start seeing his future babies in her eyes.
Guess you can tell, around seven years ago when I was 40, I had a sweet lil sub who was about 24. I regret nothing, but also knew that the relationship would be temporary. This time around, while I was feeling burnt out and thinking to line up half a dozen friendly bottoms (drat, had them all lined up too, lol), I ran into what I had given up on finding; the one who needs me to be the very last woman in his life and plans to grow old with me.

Depends on how you define male subs. No strings scenes and temporary relationships, heck yes you are right...in spades. There is not enough strengh in my body to keep up with all the guys who contact me wanting to call someone their Domme or Top. In the past I was inspired by at least half a dozen separate guys in any given month...and I had a wild time with restraints, floggers, and rubber gloves. I had as much fun as I could possibly handle and sampled anything kinky I wanted to experience. It was my experience that most young guys in their twenties and thirties seem to want to...just have fun. I have found very few looking for a long term relationship where the D/s part of our relationship is 24/7.
In the past eight years, this is the first male sub I took to visit my mother and introduced to my son and my friends; I have also met his mother, daughter, sister, and friends. Another thing to consider, how many guys who are half a Domme's age would want to explain almost daily to others that no, she is not his mother nor his grandma. Besides, for an old girl like me it is much more fun to have some waitress come up to us and say, "Oh! How sweet of you to take your father out on Father's Day." *wide evil grin*
If your hair loss bothers you, start saving up for hair plugs or something. Some bald guys look very HAWT (yeah, I had some Capt. Picard lust going on in my mid twenties), so your other option is to go to a hair stylist and see how distinguished you can make yourself look. My boy is whining sometimes over his hair loss and I told him to start saving up; tis for his vanity alone because...as long as he has enough hair in back for me to get a nice fist full whenever I want, we're okay.
