Yes, I do agree. I don't care if the chick was black, Asian, Hispanic, or orange with purple and pink polka dots. If she had been physically or mentally disabled/disavantaged, I would have the same response.

I am glad that it made me check myself. As I said before, what *I* got from the video was more that she wanted people to THINK about their behaviors. Not necessarily racially based, but towards ANYONE that is "other". She went with the racial thing because that is HER experience.

I cannot think of a single race of women who have not been physically or mentally disabled/disadvantaged in some way or another.

Status: offline 		I see this as nothing more than women putting down other women... on both sides of the isle. Yet this has not spurred the critical thinking some had desired. Instead, if you read web sites and the comments people have posted, it has spurred arguments and defensive responses.

I have heard women ask black women... "What do you do for ashy skin?" And I interrupt by saying "The same thing we all do. My skin turns that way too, even though you cant see it".

Or hearing someone ask a black friend "What do black girls wash their hair with?" I quipped back "Take a walk through Walgreens and find out for yourself" If I were asked that about white women, I could say "I have no clue, because I am not white". Or, "I dont know what all white women use, I use _____" There are some products I refuse to even try.

I have had people, upon discovering that I am native american, ask me "How do you feel about Geronimo?" "What is it like living on a reservation?" "How much free money do you get from my government?"

I asked a patient who was on dialysis one day if she would like some lotion applied to her legs. She was black and the skin looked dry. Dry skin is a side effect of dialysis. She said "Oh my yes! thank you! I got some ash reducer in my bag." That made me giggle and she laughed. After that, I would ask her if she would like some "ash reducer" playing on her joke name for it. A new employee heard me ask her that one day and reported me for racism. To that new employee, what I was saying was racist. To the staff, it was a joke the patient loved.

I am so not saying white girls dont ask stupid questions. Everyone asks stupid questions. I went with a black girl friend to a tattoo shop. I tried to talk her out of it because of the keloids she developed when she got her ears pierced. She thought I meant because she was black. I pointed out to her, then had the tattoo artist confirm, that even white people get keloids. But the incidence of having them once indicates a risk of having more.. and why waste her money with a tattoo that may simply scar over? She was so sure my comment was racially motivated initially. She got a henna one instead, and loved it!

Not every question, or gesture, is racially motivated, or caused by stupid thinking. Sometimes what we hear is not what was said, or how the person giving the comment intended it to be received.

However, yes, there are people who use the stereotypes as a means of putting others down, making themselves appear bigger, better, superior. For myself, I would rather be alone than deal with such people on a friendship level. On a professional level, I have ignored the comments and refused to answer.

it was also supposed to be funny.. if it were not for the stupid or not thinking things people said or did, people making mistakes, especially dumb ones or humans being hypocrites or there being stereotypes.. there would be absolutely no comedy or humour at all.. Its part of humans being human.. all people are.. imperfect...

Her intentions, no matter how well meaning, backfired with many, It allowed people to become defensive.

I found her hilarious. But those it was intended for will never take it seriously because its too easy to DISCOUNT comedy.

I thought these observations were interesting.. especially given what the response here has been.. (yes, I know.. some people still wont get it.. )

Dear, I grasp the concept quite well.  The minute this young woman put on a blonde wig and spoke in her imitation of a valley girl, she was portraying her view of her white friends, and quite unfavorably.  Perhaps all her friends are stupid, rich, white, chicks, but I doubt it.

The point, which you will never see, is that the only "culturally insensitive" comment portrayed was about the friend request from a "Tyrone" assuming he was black.  Sorry, chickie, but the hair comments aren't out of line in any way shape or form.  Look at any number of black women in the spotlight and then think about how many of them talk about their love of weaves or wigs.  Only recently (within the last decade or so) have white women started widely using extensions and hair relaxing become all the rage, while black women have been doing it for years.

If this woman is so disheartened by this "cultural insensitivity" she hears from her very own friends, perhaps instead of trying to make them look foolish with a video, she should take a moment to tell her friends that their comments bother her.

Did it escape your notice that your link led to a black comedian making those comments as opposed to a white girl doing it?  Find some of a white girl making the video and then see the difference.

that was a post with 2 different points.. (maybe i should have used a dividing line between them?)
The search was on what "black girls say".. they were all parodies of the parody the black girl made.. it was just showing that there are a variety of them,.. since some people used the thing about things done or said by various other people (Italians, gays, jewish people, native americans, etc).. Funny that those didnt cause a stir tho..

I have done that before (well, i dont have a blonde wig) but i have made dumb blonde jokes before (about men as well as women), i have used a valley voice before.. no one went rabid on me or did anything but laugh.. so a black girl does the same thing and...
