MissAsylum -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/10/2012 9:13:13 PM)

Saw this video when it came out a few days ago. Did i find it funny? Well, I didn't double over in laughter, or even chuckle really.

Is it accurate? Based of my personal experience- yes. However, you can replace "white" with any race to be honest. I've gotten and have heard all of those remarks at one point or another.

Is it racist to repeat what you've been asked by somebody of another race? I don't believe so.

For the "ghetto" remark: most women who say that (myself included) aren't referencing people most of the time. Of course you have idiots, but the sake of intelligent conversation, we shall leave them out for a moment. They (again, myself included) are talking about what an actual ghetto is thought to be: janky, dirty, low budget, low class.

Example: women fighting in a night club. That's pretty ghetto to me. Last year alone, I've seen Caucasian, African heritage, Hispanic, Asian women fight in a night club. Acting like a fool in public makes a person look very low class- i.e. ghetto.

Given the topic at hand, what I will say I find racist when it comes to video blogs and the like when many black women refer to white women as "Sarah", or "Becky" or some white women refer to black women as "Shaniqua" or "Lakeisha".

I've dealt with people from all races asking me questions. Some questions are because they do not want to say something that is offensive, which i can applaud because they are making an effort to be considerate. Other times, I feel like I am the person who has to "explain" other people.

"Is that a black thing?"

If I only had a nickle for every time that has happened. I'd have a whole lot of nickles.

I get it from black people to, like somehow i have to explain so-called white stuff.

Bottom line, there are many offensive and racist things out there. This video isn't one of them. Sorry.

I couldnt agree more, MA, to all the points you just posted. Thank you. If I left the impression that I thought it was racist, that was not my intention. Its not. Its accurate. Its also one sided.

And Tazzy, it is my contention that trying to provide all perspectives in one point dilutes the original concept. Imagine that you really wanted to make orange juice. Then someone came along and said, "You know, there are other fruits out there so you should put cherry, banana, strawberry and peach juice in too." The end result is different than what you're going for. Again, this is something that white women in this country commit this mistake more, but not because they are white, because they are the majority. If black people where 65% of the population then black people would commit this mistakes more often, it just so happens the reverse is true.

Did I say you started threads on racism or that typically that is when you have something to say.  I'm well aware of how to look at posting history, and the majority of yours are typically comments on something of this sort.  I'm terribly sorry that you apparently feel so oppressed, but your comments to all here who simply don't see things the way you do is really transparent.

Even by these standards you're wrong. For this to be true I would have to take a topic that is not about race and steer it toward race. Once again, you can look at my last 100 posts and see that I mostly stick on topic. That might be the box your brain really wants to put me in, but it's contradicted by the actual facts.

Why is it women, regardless of race, feel the need to tear each other down? Its either by race, by social status, by looks, by body type.

Shouldnt someone say... "Stop"? This video didnt say stop to me.

IME, just saying STOP doesn't have any impact unless the reason is made clear, especially when the offender has no clue that what they are doing could in ANY way be considered inappropriate.

and I probably am not conveying anything here, but it's more a note for me to expand on later. It's about naptime for me.

edited to expand a thought

I do agree with your point. And the reason why in that video, to you and me, was made clear. Do you believe, after reading some responses, not only here but other forums, that others see it clearly? I dont.

Retrospect isnt the time to see things. Its when its happening. We should be encouraging women to speak up, and out, when we hear these things first hand. If I am with a "friend" who makes a racist comment, iI speak up and tell them. If they do so again, they are no longer someone I consider a "friend".

Accepting it by silence doesnt work. Making a joke out of it doesnt work either.

BBBTBW -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/15/2012 11:20:29 AM)

If anyone has seen any of the other Chescaleigh youtube videos, you will see she is a comedian. She makes fun of herself and anything else she can find funny. She also educates people on different subjects she has experience in. She is not a racist, a classist, a sexist etc....she is an intelligent woman that is creative, talented and shares her experiences with the masses. The fact that she doesn't list everyone that she has had these experiences with by name doesn't mean it includes you unless you are guilty of the action she expresses.

I as a black woman have experienced every single one of the experiences she has expressed and then some. The one I experience most is "I have this black friend that....." My question to them after they have made their statement is, "Did the fact that your friend was black make the experience any different than if the friend was a different race? If not, then why did you feel the need to tell me they were black?" Call people out when it happens and make them APPARENTLY aware of their verbiage so they can correct their vernacular immediately.

If you aren't guilty of the action, don't be offended by it. If you are guilty, think before you speak.

If you are now aware that what you said was inappropriate, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

Well Done Franchesca.
