However  Tj444, that doesnt change the fact that its offensive and racist...

She doesnt make her point...

Its like saying well No offense but... (insert something derogatory here)... or Not to be racist.. but...(insert derogatory here)

All of this prefaces something you KNOW will be offensive...so to start out the video to say well... you know what your going to say is offensive and or racist and you frankly dont care...

And the fact she makes money off of every page view kind of makes it seem.... Less then wholesome... because she knew that it would Stir a LOT of crap and gets money every time someone clicks on it...

Let's see, a black girl repeating things that have been said to her.. that makes her racist? not to me, it doesnt.. pointing out how other people are racist doesnt make one racist themselves imo.. If you look at her other vids, anything is game for her vids.. including santa, barbie, herself.. etc..

OMG! call PETA on this one of hers.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9b0mvJ76-M&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

But.. i find it sorta interesting that there are very few comments about the original vid or the Amhed the Terrorist vid..

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/8/2012 11:30:20 PM)

I only watched one posted here... When i found her " comedy" got her money, i refused to watch any others..

And shes attempting to make a point when most of whats said in the video isnt racist... nor is it rude or offensive.

However I was raised to believe that if its offensive if one person says it.. its offensive if all people say it...

There for certain words like the N word.. or Getto, i do not find to be offensive simply because a) the words were and are not applied to only one race and b) if its only offensive if some people say it, it cant be all that offensive.

Racism is defined as - abusive or aggressive behaviour towards members of another race on the basis of such a belief

Wouldnt having an issue with only white people saying certain words be racism?

tj444 -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/8/2012 11:43:29 PM)

that makes no sense to me.. if a reporter reports on a racist event and repeats what is said, that makes the reporter racist also? If repeating racist, sexist, ageist comments made by someone else makes one a racist, sexist, ageist then no one could ever comment on what people say in an effort to change attitudes.. That is all she is doing, pointing out dumb things people say and using humor to do it (rather than a rant which no one would listen to anyhow).. hopefully she opens a few peoples eyes about things they say..

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 12:27:01 AM)

Except a) theres no way to verify what shes saying is whats been "said" to her b) most of whats said isnt racist nor insensitive..

I have long blond hair, I have men and women of all races ages and color asking to touch my hair. Does that make them "racist" Or them seeing a hair style or type they are not used to encountering and  making a comment?

Below are direct quotes that i have issues with from the links you posted.

quote:

When I went home at Christmas, my friends were asking about my hair, the usual fax pas...and I started thinking, if I wear a white girl wig, that could work...
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2012/01/franchesca_ramsey.php

So its okay, for her to be offended by people questioning her hair, but its okay for her to sterotype others in a negative way. Thats called racism.

quote:

but my fiancé is white, most of my closest friends are white.
one of her "slurs" is but I'm not racist... my best friend is black, its racist and inconsiderate if they say it, but again not for her...

quote:

A lot of people relate to it, but some people don't. That's what happens when you're a black girl on the internet.
But why does her race matter? Do white girls on the internet magically not have that problem?

quote:

Over the years I've found that dealing with white people faux pas can be tricky. If I get upset, I could quickly be labeled the "angry black girl."
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/franchesca-ramsey/shit-girls-say_b_1184130.html

So only white people ever have made these comments? It seems racist to me, that only those who are white are mentioned, I know many people of many races might have also made similar comments, however I'm noticing a trend

quote:

opening some eyes and encouraging some of my white friends and acquaintances to think twice before they treat their black friends and associates like petting zoo animals or expect us to be spokespeople for the entire race.
However she feels its acceptable, to make it seem like every white person she knows is guilty of such behavior

quote:

takes a light touch to racial ignorance, but is no less meaningful for its social commentary.
http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/06/10004774-s-white-girls-say-to-black-girls-star-talks-ignorance-racism

While at the same time showing her own racial ignorance throughout the entirety of the video.

quote:

"First, let's be clear, since a lot of people leaving comments on YouTube and elsewhere seem to have a hard time understanding this: "S*** White Girls Say...to Black Girls" is a parody. One of my own friends who didn't think it was funny wrote on my Facebook timeline after I'd posted it, "Having heard a number of things people have said to me over the years, one could make a 'Stupid things humans say to each other' video."
However she personally chose to make it about race, not about stupid things, she brought race into it making it a racial issue. Its not funny, Its not a "parody" its offensive. She did what she had to to make money, Yes. However it doesnt make it somehow okay.

quote:

But there are of course a lot of trolls who've decided that I'm racist for making the video which is just ludicrous.
So shes okay with insulting others that dont agree with her point of view.

quote:

Since this video, too many "people" to count. I say "people" only because most of them are trolls just looking for attention because my video is popular. My response is usually something along the lines of, "This video is not about racism, nor is it racist. This video is about cultural insensitivity and is based on things that have been said to me
Okay so anyone who disagree is only doing so because they are jealous, Yes it has nothing to do with the fact that she is also being culturally insensitive with the entirety of her video....

tj444 -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 12:39:57 AM)

as i already said in my first post on this thread.. there are people that are going to nit pick stuff apart and analyze every word or phrase looking for those things to be extremely critical & preachy.. [8|] I dont see the point in all that.. I take it for what it is.. humor, and thats all it is to me.. I think she is funny,.. if a few people see aspects of themselves and it make them think more about what they say and think.. then good for her..

Imo, she is no different that a stand up comic in a club.. and imo she is tame compared to what is said in comedy shows or clubs..

you are free to think whatever you want.. as am I..

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 12:49:03 AM)

I am not nip-picking or over analyzing.. I am taking it for what it is, a video that tries to make a "statement" about racial insensitivity, while being racially insensitive during the entire video.

She chose to make it about race the second she made the title Shit "Race" girls say to "race" girls... It made her money that was her goal, it was a way to get views...  But dont get pissy and upset when you personally bring up race and then people start get upset about the racial slurs you make.

You said you dont see how her "comments" should be seen as racist, i took a few from the examples you provided and showed you that she is doing the exact thing shes complaining about other doing to her.

Im just trying to figure out why its okay for the goose but not the gander....

tj444 -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 1:00:05 AM)

you havent shown me anything... other than you dont get it.. [8|]

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 1:16:42 AM)

What dont i get then, Please do explain to me what i seem to be missing..

Shes made a racial video and is pissy people are calling her racist because of it.... She doesnt like being called racist and is calling anyone who might have come to that conclusion as "haters and trolls". The thing shes most angry about is the fact someone linked her video off site and took her money from her because "that guy doesnt need it like she does"

Hmm Please do enlighten me to what im missing about her?

lilmissdefiant -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 1:28:39 AM)

I thought it was funny

tj444 -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 1:36:25 AM)

I already did... [sm=banghead.gif]

Gawd... I sooooo want to tell a dumb blonde joke right now.. but i just know someone will call me a racist... [8|]

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 1:45:44 AM)

No...[8|] i would just say No offense, Oh wait... heh, I was taught better then that Enjoy yourself.

GreedyTop -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 1:55:36 AM)

~FR~

I liked much of what WInterapple said.

Also, in the BET article, it said: "The point of Ramsey’s video wasn’t to mock women, but rather to bring what are called “microaggressions,” “brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative racial slights and insults toward people of other races,” according to psychologist Chester Pierce, who coined the term."

In that, I feel that it succeeded.
I found myself questioning myself: Do I behave as she portrayed?

Happily, I can say that I honestly don't. But I watched it knowing I have seen people doing just the things shown (cringing when I do).

I'm tired and down to watching the clock until I can go home this morning (2 more hours! GAH!!), so forgive me if I am less than clear in this response.

I know, while some was a little exagerated (as parodies are), there were things that I have heard too.. Of course you have to have an open and objective mind to see it..

DivineDemise -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 3:41:14 AM)

I have actually heard white girls saying all of that. Its pretty sad really.

Oh dear lord.. how many times do I have to say this, at what point did she claim that anyone was being racist? It's an important distinction. And you really need her to prove the things said to her? Really? Well I can tell you first hand that most of that stuff was said to me. But if you believe that most of that stuff wasn't at least insensitive then we're off to a terrible start already..

Explain to me how blonde hair is a negative stereotype? Besides ALL of the "shit girls say" parodies have wigs, and if anything she's being consistent.

Umm .. what? At what point was there a slur involved? And at what point did she say "but my best friend is black" as one of the comments?

The unfortunate reality is, being a woman period can effect how others view your content, and being a black woman even more so. For example, here's an article about how many of the complaints from fans of sci-fi and fantasy about black female characters consistently align with black female stereotypes: http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/63715764.html

So wait a second, way back there you said "theres no way to verify what shes saying is whats been "said" to her" but you're willing to believe that other might have made similar comments? Why should we believe you more than her? And keep in mind that she grew up in a white area, so most of these people who said these things are going to be white because there's no one else around, not because of some inherent white person trait. I've seen black women who have similar experience when they go to Japan and Korea, but again, she's relating HER experiences.

How does she make it seem like all white people do that?

I'd love to tackle this giant ball of wrong further (getting to your "How she makes her money off Youtube" comment in particular), but I must go to work..

notthetongs -> RE: "Shit white girls say to black girls" (1/9/2012 6:48:16 AM)

I didn't find it especially funny or racist.  I think a lot of people end up hearing silly things from people of other cultures.  What is funny is that a lot of things she said are kind of universal, if you change a few words.  For example:
"My parents hate Chinks.  Wait, is that racist?"
"He's cute for an Asian guy."
"Hey, do you know a Jim Lee? He just requested me.  I dunno, he's Korean."
and covering similar topics
"So, people make weave out of Asian hair, right?"
"I don't know what I did to my computer, can you fix it?"

eta fast reply

Just another silly YouTube video.  Hell, my kid is on there swallowing a fish.  The access we have to the world makes some think they can be profound.  My kid wasn't and neither is this chick.
