well,.. duh yeah, thats my fav tv show!!!

I am sure the hackers are amazing, but for someone to stalk you and be a super computer hacker in the same person? My impression of most hackers is they like just creating chaos from their computer, using their brains, not braun.. I am not saying its not possible.. just they seem to mostly be geeks that are not physically harmful (unless you are a secure website lol)...

My point, though, is that to find you with intent to harm you, all a person needs is the most basic access/skills. A P.O. Box won't do much to stop that.

there are ways to thwart that too tho, I dont know enough about that myself but there are ways of anonomizing yourself too... and the ip is only as good as where you are at the time.. some ips change frequently also.. and with ipads, etc, you could be all over the place using different web hot spots.. The stalker would have to be living close enough to you also, for them to be able to use that info to stalk you... Where i am right now,.. it would be harder as i am in a hotel so finding my actual room from the ip.. i dont think that is very likely, given that there is only vague info on me here...

Its like a lot of things.. If someone wants to break into you home or whatever, they can if they put the effort in to make it thru all the barriers you have put up.. its that way in a lot of things, if someone wants to steal your ID or whatever.. but most will just go after the easy ones rather than put in the effort to get a certain person..

Perhaps if you were not such a damn weekling in the first place you would not have gotten singled out by this jerk off. If I see someone outside my house for more than five minutes I walk my ass outside and ask him nicely if he would like some bodywork done on his car? they look at ya funny the first few minutes until it registers in their tiny brains that I don't work for Maako but I do work for smith and wesson as well as the aluminum baseball bat company. Believe me you won't ever see that person again. Act like a victim and you will always be a victim.

Considering most residential streets are public property, doing that would make you guilty of assault at the very least. Do so with a firearm and it becomes assault with a deadly weapon or unlawful brandishing of a firearm.

LOL, some cop in Texas. My sister has huge, gorgeous eyes and wears an FF sized bra (each tit is bigger than my head), and after writing her a ticket...he had the brass to tell her how pretty she was and asked her out on a date.

Oh gawd did she rip him a new ass.

In several places I have lived at this behavior would have gotten you killed or worse.

In less dangerous neighborhoods, their memory would be longer than the proverbial elephant's...and you would be dealing with slashed tires, broken windows (house and car), etc. for the next twenty years of your life. Oh, and if the person's second cousin twice removed is married to a man whose brother's girlfriend's brother is a cop...etc., every time you drive around the block you would be stopped over some piffling thing. You'd might even learn that your auto mechanic's son's girlfriend's dad's best friend was the asshat in front of your place and suddenly your vehicle will have an endless stream of mechanical problems. Their cousin's daughter's mother's best friend will also work at the nearby restaurant and will burn your toast and spit into your coffee, and drop your ham onto the floor and blow it off. I won't even mention what their relatives, the nurses and beauticians can do.

Some battles are just not worth it in the long run, not if you live in a small town.

NV, I do acknowledge that it was unprofessional and inappropriate. No I don't think he was stalking her, if he were he hardly would have left a note specifically asking her out would he. But he did. He didn't even ring her doorbell, he left a note on her windshield. Stalking is dependent on the person being stalked not knowing about it. Now if he had followed her around and/or continue to ask her out yeah that would be stalking.

It still took more of an effort for him to do that.. and that does squick me out.. he physically drove to where she lived.. he drove around until he found her vehicle.. both those things are more aggressive than most guys just asking you out on a date do.. If I was her, i would likely quickly move..

just sayin..

That effort could also be seen as making an effort to track her down to ask her out which is actually flattering. You would actually move? Really? If the behaviour were to accelerate to threatening I would contact the police but MOVE? That seems excessive and an overreaction to me.

yeah, i probably would.. I would consider that it could accelerate into much more.. and many cases by then its too late.. I have read that cops have the same psychological profile as criminals.. if that is true.. yeah,.. another reason.. and having peace of mind would be worth the effort of moving, imo.. Sure, file a complaint with the police dept but do that after you have moved, imo.. Like i said tho, i use a po box so that really wouldnt happen to me.. a guy would actually have to follow me all the way to where ever i was staying to find that out...

Hack the electric company, gas company and propane company. You likely have one or more of them and you're heating some place. And its not a po box. Or track you through your employer who has all of your necessary info.

Wow I pity the poor slob who's waiting for someone they came to pick up. It's still assault so you I'm surprised you haven't been arrested...or have you?

I think your reaction to this is going to depend heavily on how you think of cops. If you think of them as regular people doing a regular job, then it is kind of cute if a little bit ethically questionable, him just tracking down a woman he thinks could be something special. If you think of them as thugs who prey on fear and wield the power of the state like a crude cudgel, then it seems like intimidation, trying to use his power to scare her into playing along with him by showing up at her house and showing her he could get to her if he wanted to.

In the end, we're never going to agree - those of us who have had certain sorts of interactions with cops and were raised in a certain belief system are going to see it as intimidation; those who haven't and weren't are going to see it as sweet but questionable.

I love cops, worked with them closely, partied and socialized with them etc etc etc AND AND AND lol i did it a lot with Chicago cops and surrounding areas lol.

But i still think this is creepy, and have told my cop friends who know this guy to smack him upside his head for being so stupid.  But no matter, its my work in the legal field not my relationship with cops as i don't defend or prosecute cops that has me saying filing a lawsuit is a bid for attention and money.

She will cry how damaged she is, the police department will just want the situation over so they will pay her, she will skip away all better and counting her money feeling vindicated.

You're a tricky one. Hmmm. It can be done. There just isn't much of a reason for anybody to do it.

We'll assume you have family and friends. And those family and friends might visit you during the holidays. You sort thru all their gas and food receipts and see what that gets.

lol You keep trying, dont you?

Since my mother died, essentially no family left.. sure distant relatives but i have no idea of their contact info or they of mine.. lost touch ages ago.. my brother that is handling my mothers estate has my po box and since he is a jerk (I am being kind).. once this is settled i have no reason to ever care to hear from him again.. Friends? again, the few true friends i do have i use email to chat with them, or skype.. they dont have my address since they dont need it for anything.. Friends i have in CA, I go to see them and gas recpts etc would not give you anything to glean info on me.. Interestingly tho, not having ties of any degree gives me incredible freedom.. i can visit, move and live (full or part time) any place in the (civilized) world that i wish to.. that freedom tends to feed my wanderlust.. I see the entire world as my potential playground.. Costa Rica? Turks & Caicos? France? the UK? Belize? Panama? Chile? or? its all possible to me...

Well at this point most would have given up. All except maybe 3. The government, someone being paid good money to find you and a person who has sworn vendetta. The government would have the easiest time of it since they have way more info.

*cracks knuckles* Well I know you stay in california and let's say that I have your name and drivers license picture. And also your vehicle registration. I figure a hacker or investigator would get ahold of that easy enough. On the one hand I would background check you and everyone you have had contact with going back to childhood. And also the friends and family members of those people. Then check every company, charity, gym or organization any of them are in. If your name appeared anywhere in there then that person could be singled out.

And the other method would be to simply sit on your po box until someone picks up that mail. If its you then just follow you home. If its not you then follow that person until either you pick it up or they take it to you. And then I walk up and hand you a piece of paper. "You've been served".

airline tix...just sayin...easy way to track you down. You mentioned traveling.

Credit/debit card use.
Rental information.
Isp info.
background check
car registration info.

I mean there are tons of ways to track someone. No one..absolutely no one is completely off the radar unless they pretend to be dead and move to a deserted island in the middle of nowhere with no electricity, no utilities, no people, etc...

Using the DMV computers for "personal reasons" is a nono for any cop I've ever known and I've been told it can be grounds for termination .....

I manage a library that is part of a large system and it is actually written into our policy manuals that one cannot access patron information for any reason other than library business. Getting someone's phone number so you can call them up and ask them for a date can get you fired from our library system. I'm pretty sure DMV folks and cops have a similar rule in most every place. Or at least they should, imo, as not everyone has common sense naturally so they need a bit more guidance.............luci

No, any vehicles are registered in an LLC, not in my personal name..
Any background search would not give much at all, and it would only go back a couple of years in the US anyway..
If someone sat on my PO Box, they would have a dam long wait.. they would have to sit on it when the PO was closed (still can access the box after hours).. and I would go there maybe once every 2 weeks.. and right now its on temporary forward.. that would be something no one but the PO would know..
And good luck finding anyone knowing the real me.. they might find people that know someone with a name like mine (since my last name is common).. lots of goose chasing there..
lets see.. a google search of my name (with the correct spelling) = 264,000 hits.. none of them for me..
with another common but incorrect spelling = 778,000 hits...
the closest a person could get is to narrow it down to the city/cities where i might be..
