I've no problem with allowing the Amish on the roads. I've no problem with appropriate accommodations. But if they choose to use the roads, safety measures are not an unreasonable request.

So why don't these laws apply to bicyclists?

While I am here... how is it one can drive a car with a dog in their lap (many times with its head hanging out the window) while people are told they cannot use their cell phone for fears of distracted driving?

tazzygirl -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/13/2012 6:31:15 PM)

Dont know about where you live, but in the cities I have lived in, its been a requirement to have head lights, brake lights and reflectors.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/13/2012 11:29:06 PM)

how about pets riding in your lap?

tazzygirl -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/13/2012 11:33:03 PM)

I know of no state that has a law against it. Doesnt mean there shouldnt be. Maybe you need to start that drive. For myself, I owned a black lab. He definitely did not ride in my lap, and was, instead relegated to the back seat.

You'd need a pretty big lap to manage that on a bicycle. I have seen a few cats in baskets or saddlebags, though...

They do. Where do YOU live?

The Amish have as much right to be on the road as you do and they have as much right to be in the buggy and you have no right ot tell them or anyone else what fucking religion they need to believe.

In fact, you ARE.

Nobody said the Amish can't be on the road, or in the buggy, or what religion to have.

bighappygoth39 -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 6:08:18 AM)

They just have an issue with the Amish holding that God has told them they don't have to bother with road safety regulations...

what pisses me off is that the state does not protect me from actions of other people.

I think they should have laws to make everyone stay inside their house but me.

if you and your state by FORCE make them put  that shit on their buggies and it is against their religion then you are forcing your corporate atheist shit upon them in VIOLATION OF THEIR RELIGIOUS RIGHTS.

Obviously thats ok with you.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 7:43:34 AM)

They do not have to have the stickers et al. All they have to do then is to keep their buggys off of public roads except in broad daylight. You do realize it's a safety issue, not a religious issue, right?

It most certainly is a religios issue if it runs contrary to their religion unless you want to dictate what their religion is or should be for them?   Are you that arrogant?  Like certain others out here?

yes I do realize its a safety issue!

Wreckless motorists who are not in control of their vehicles.

They have as much right to be on the road as you do with your out of control tank.

In fact they have more right than you do because horses and buggys were on the roads long before your suvs were.

How about a law to insure cars are only allowed on the road between 2 am and 4 am.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 8:02:25 AM)

Ok. Here it is. You're wrong.
The laws are put in place for everyone to follow.
Even if.

mnottertail -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 8:08:15 AM)

There is the doctrine of separation of church and state, and its rather spelled out in the Constitution.

You can have your religious convictions whole and untrammeled unless they violate the laws of the state.  But it is not religious persecution.

You can speak german, you can drive your horse and buggy, you can wear your clothes, you can live without electricity, running water, and so on......

But you put smv signage on your vehicle whilst on the publics road, and you cant drive your steel wheeled tractors with lugs on the public roadways.

Not at all. Only if they take those buggies on the road.

Real0ne -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 8:31:41 AM)

nice double-think/talk

you only want to violate their religious rights so you can fly down the road out of control.

AND

violate their right to travel without infringement

mnottertail -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 8:34:50 AM)

there is no right to travel without infringement OF ANY KIND in our law.

in fact, those buggies can cross state lines, where guess what?  They better have a fuckin SMV sign on them if they do it on a public road.

so much for separation then huh?

If the state has jurisdiction over the church then there is NO separation between them and it IS religious persecution when it violates religious rights and that it does well.

they are not commercial.

yeh ok we get that you do not give a fuck for the 1st amendment either.

Only when it serves your purposes and fuck everyone else!

the supreme court disagrees with you as I p[roved in my right to travel versus drive thread

mnottertail -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 8:42:46 AM)

no, you have not proved that a right to travel DOCTRINE (as it deals with basic assumptions in our law) relieves you of the right of obeying common to all statutes, commercial or otherwise.

Fundamentally the doctrine is in essence:.....well let me give you the counter example since you don't do well with law itself....

It means that unlike germany, you dont have to show your papers (prove your provenance) when traveling from the state of Swabia to Silesia as a matter of course.

Finito, Benito.
