Gee but we cant have that now can we?  I mean solutions that RESPECT SOMEONES RIGHTS in your world now can we?

If religious rights trump all atheistic state and federal rights, you'd be prefectly happy to have a Somali (or other North African Muslim) Infibulation boutique opened down the mall as well then? It'd be an appalling imposition from the evil government drones to even expect the noble Religious iconoclasts to use sterile instruments to cut their daughter's clits off and sew up their punanis.

If the Amish are "driving out of control," then why would a "slow moving vehicle" sign be necessary on their buggies?

And as for "being a public hazard?" Aren't we in fact ALL guilty of that just by getting behind the wheels of our vehicles???

No one is driving out of control here except in Real One's invented argument.

Yes, we are all public hazards--and we are all required to have working tail lights.

and your arguments are as out of control as your vehicles.

If they hit an amish vehicle on the roads it invariably is from behind, hence driving to fast for conditions.

Here they have signs up warning of popularly traveled Amish areas.

Gee but we cant have that now can we?  I mean solutions that RESPECT SOMEONES RIGHTS in your world now can we?

And again, you are making up things so that you can argue.

If you hit someone from behind, WHATEVER the reason (barring an infraction on the part of another driver), YOU are at fault.

NUFF SAID!

So again, you are arguing something that no one is arguing.

To prevent these mishaps, we use tail lights and orange triangles.

We also have laws governing speed and reckless driving.

in court what I am doing is called rebutting bullshit with facts to settle the argument.

What you use in your religion is your business.

It is not their religion leaving you 2 choices; either stomp all over their rights which is the path you have chosen of find an EQUITABLE solution that respects their rights.

A Clit Clippers R US at the local mall?  Fascinating concept.

We have one.

1) They are free to use the roads.
2) They use orange triangles for safety.

they are free to use the roads as long as they do it YOUR WAY!

which oh BTW violates their rights but thats ok with you.

Musicmystery -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 10:01:48 AM)

Refuting arguments no one is making is something more commonly observed in the mentally disturbed.

You're talking to yourself. Refuting what no one is claiming. Again.

Go outside. Exercise. Ski--I'm going to, right now.

To those of you trying to "debate" with RO,you need to realize trying to argue with him is like throwing a pig into a mud hole as punishment.Sooner or later you will figure out he enjoys it too much.

Moonhead -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 10:03:50 AM)

At seems a pretty fair analogy to Real's argument that the Amish aren't obliged to follow the same rules of the road as every bugger else on them because they're using a horse and buggy for religious reasons. A Religious clit trimming while u wait store shouldn't be expected to use an autoclave like a tattooist would be for the same reason...

In fact, I face similar restrictions, as I'm required to have my vehicle registered, inspected annually, and insured. The inspection includes working tail lights, and yes, complying is OK with me. I understand the reasoning behind these restrictions and I agree.

more assbackwards law.

states and body corporates act on authority NOT RIGHTS.

the muslims et al they have the right to do just that.

but you are another one who believes in trampling everyone rights to fit you fucked up vision of what society should be by FORCE.

More rights violations.

Kinda the point I'm making, no?

Worse, no one is arguing with him, so he's desperate to invent an argument.

Anyway, like I said...off to ski. Have fun!

barelynangel -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 10:06:27 AM)

RealOne.  This is an internal matter among the Amish, it's not a State concern or need for concern where Amish will and won't choose to compromise their religion and the consequences or non-consequences within their community for doing same.

Their community which is very strict with their religion obviously determined that the compromise to use the roads was okay and people who do so won't be shunned, then the not being shunned for placing the required signage to use such a road they compromise their religion to use is an internal matter and not one the State needs to compromise with regard to same.   This is their community issue and dealing with the possible consequences of their choosing to compromise their religion by using the roads.

thats because you are a driver and you operate under trust.

your problem NOT theirs.

because you do not know or understand how to manage your legal matters you want to force your lack of knowledge on those who know how to protect their rights.

I forgot all about the road signs that inform drivers they are entering an area where Amish buggies are prevalent. And usually there are quite a few of them before entering a settlement area, as you are driving through, and even after you leave.

I still think what happened in Kentucky is an isolated case.

But as I said, I always enjoy finding out just how educated people are about the Amish. (Smiles)

Respectfully,
Ms Click

I do know that there are rules that even this sect must adhere too. These road rules are not only for the safety of the public, but also for the safety of those in the buggies as well as the horses.

As far as too fast for conditions... there is also a minimum speed limit on many highways they use to travel on.

quote:

These horse and buggies tend to travel at an average speed of 5 to 8 miles per hours.

Most have minimums, that I have seen, of between 25 and 40 miles an hour. Coming up on someone, in the dusk, moving at 8 miles an hour, its going to be a fast approach. Add a curve or bend, and its a recipe for disaster.

Musicmystery -> RE: Amish Jailed (1/14/2012 10:09:24 AM)

I occasionally drive my lawn tractor along the road in front of my property.

If a cop stopped and told me I had to get an orange triangle, I'd roll my eyes and either
(1) just do it, or
(2) stay within the confines of my property.

Ski trails await. In state forests, no less, which I travel freely.

Amish welcome.
