But, President Candy Ass wants the military to,..."arrest" those scumbags and then,.....bring them to the U.S. for,...."trial!"

These guys don't piss on them they kill them and sink their boats. By the looks of it with all those smaller go-fast boats this is certainly the "mother ship."
This video is probably not for the faint of heart. It's pretty graphic.
It reminds me of the times when we sunk drug runners boats in the Carribean in the USCG.

That first salvo was some serious sorry assed shooting. they made up for it in throw weight tho.

Anaxagoras -> RE: This is how Russian Sailors handle pirates. (1/14/2012 8:01:19 PM)

Seems they pretty much used the ship as target practice. I very much doubt the passengers were still on the ship after they were really whacking it. Interesting too is the list of favourite videos at the bottom of the page, such as "Estonian vs Latvian girls" - ah that eternal question I hope to find an answer to myself... [;)]

It appears there were people aboard the alleged pirate ship. There is nothing to indicate that those people were rescued/arrested. Therefore everything that follows is predicated on the assumption that the people on board the vessel were killed by the Russians.

What would have been wrong with arresting the alleged pirates and then sinking their ship? Given the relative capacities of the ships involved, it would have been a cake walk to ensure all the people aboard the doomed ship were taken into custody first. Once the ship is people-free, by all means blow it to kingdom come.

If there were people aboard that doomed vessel, then we have just seen a video of murder. Unprovoked, unnecessary pointless murder. M - U - R - D - E - R.

There is nothing in this video to cheer. Nothing to celebrate. No winners. Just one bunch of heavily armed thugs murdering another bunch of alleged thugs. The pirates usually don't murder their victims. Apparently these particular Russians do. That makes them worse than the pirates in my book.

Finally the attempt to insinuate Obama is a "candy ass" because he doesn't indulge this kind of petty massacre is sickening. Who would be proud to be a citizen of a country led by a cold-blooded murderer?

Hillwilliam -> RE: This is how Russian Sailors handle pirates. (1/14/2012 8:27:35 PM)

I'm thinking they were off the ship before it was hit. I looked again and about 1:04 to 1:10 is the first serious hits. Previous to that, there were a bunch of people on the stern deck. When the ship starts taking hits, noone. There was also noone abandoning ship, nor were there any heads bobbing in the water.
Early in the video, the vessel was quite sclose to the warship. When the shooting started, it was several hundred meters away. Rule one of an engagement. You don't let someone get farther away before you try to kill them.
In addition, the ship is not moving at all when the Russians open fire on it. When you are looking down the barrel of a warship that isnt taking prisoners, you will have the throttle pushed to the stops. That boat is pervectly still.
Logical conclusion:

The pirates were taken into custody and then the ship was used for target practice. Editing of the video made it look like they blew them away.

I hope you're correct Hillwilliam.

I was a bit suspicious ..... I didn't spot any one swimming away from the stricken vessel, which is what one would expect to see. Hence the qualification at the beginning of my post.

It's possible that the video was edited with the intention of sending a nasty signal to the pirates and would-be pirates. That is not unreasonable, and might even be a good thing if it succeeded in achieving that goal.

I'm still shaking my head in despair at the mentality that tries to rubbish Obama for not acting like a common murderer, and moans about "our" inability/refusal to act like common murderers. If this is SOP for the manner in which the USCG dealt with drug runners in "the good(!)(???) old days", I'm glad I'm too young to be part of it. I hope the Statute of Limitations has not expired in this matter.

Did you ever think the drug runners may have tried to run? Do they just let them go?...Yes lets try those drug runner murdering Coast Guard thugs. How dare they do their sworn duty to protect our borders.

I'm googling here on international law.

I THINK I remember seeing where International law changed from "shoot on sight" to "Obey the Geneva Convention" regarding pirates about 1980.

I may be wrong and I'm putting that admission right out front.
If I remember right, they can only be killed if agressively approaching a ship at sea or if already on that ship. Otherside, they have to be treated basically like a POW.

If someone finds something to confirm or debunk that, please post it.

Bottom line, that's why we cant send predator drones after em

I would think those laws or more suggestions to the powerful... and demands to the weak. Otherwise no one really pays attention to those laws...especially Obama...or Bush.

Oh, hell there's an easy fix for that.

Call 'em "commercial terrorist' and you can assassinate them at will.

Kinda like the other thread about pissing on corpses, Butch. If we as a nation wish to hold the moral high ground, then we need to act like it.

On the other hand, I'd LOVE to see what a hellfire missile from a drone could do to a mothership.

One BIG assed problem with that is, as we learned last week with the rescue of the Iranian fishermen, Motherships often have innocent hostages on board.

Wouldn't it suck shit to send a bunch of pirates on the magic carpet ride to Allah and then board the shards of the mothership only to find what's left of some American hostages?

ETA: Firm, you may just have a good idea.

kdsub -> RE: This is how Russian Sailors handle pirates. (1/14/2012 9:26:45 PM)

I don't know...remember we dropped an atomic bomb on a city knowing there was an American prisoner of war camp...damn hypocritical democratic president gave the ok.

But that aside we have been very fair with our encounters with pirates don't you think?

Hillwilliam -> RE: This is how Russian Sailors handle pirates. (1/14/2012 9:37:44 PM)

True, we did but our military has tried for decades to absolutely minimize collateral damage. Not saying it might not happen in the future but it would still suck.

Hillwilliam -> RE: This is how Russian Sailors handle pirates. (1/14/2012 9:43:53 PM)

Good, pops is back.

Yo Pops. What were your Rules of Engagement for druggies when you were in the Coasties?

Take em prisoner unless they try to fight back then it's weapons free?

I think we have but if you listen to some little girl from Australia they are all murdering thugs. And I'll bet many here would argue with you...They believe we are indiscriminate world bullies. I guess it is the price we pay when we try to fulfill our duty as the worlds preeminent power.

I vaguely remember a saying in No-Mans Nam...........something about "Waste 'em all and let god sort out the good ones" ..........It worked admirably there. The land behind us was always peaceful and friendly.

Indeed we are. I just wish we'd spend a little less time with our collective Dick out costing us a ton of money and constantly proving it.

It wasn't too peaceful behind a few of my older friends.

I can't say as I've ever met a 45 yo 'Nam vet before.
