It is when others reasoning is the bill is only being spoken against by those who hate republicans and love Obama.

Just practicing my passive aggressive.

So you have no idea how the bill will affect your business... but because it is sponsored by a republican it must be bad is that it.

strawman much
I have been using the internet for my business for 11 years" just because YOU cant and dont understand. DO NOT try to suppose you know what I do or do not know about my own business and problems I have with this bill. However it does point out precisely why I do not trust your opinion, outlook or actually anything.
passive agressive...you are doing it wrong, it looks like dumb ignorance and pettiness
and it has FUCK all to do with a republican or any politics

By "others," you appear to mean "one poster."

Who is using straw men now...come on.. you know nothing of my internet or business experience...Just say what in the bill affects your business... is that so hard?

If I am for or against something I will say why...it is called communication not howling at the moon and crying wolf.

Why can’t we have a real discussion… I may very well agree with you if I only knew the reasons.

1. What does disliking Obama have to do with this bill?

2. What provisions of the bill do you find disgusting and why?

Marc2b -> RE: English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout (1/18/2012 12:25:40 PM)

No Wikipedia?  This sucks!  Now if I want to look something up I have to go to Conservapedi... and those dumbasses don't even know what a clitoris is.

(seriously folks, go to the Conservapedia main page and enter clitoris in the search box and watch what happens)

ETA: link

ETA (again): and after that enter BDSM... don't think much of us, do they?

Musicmystery -> RE: English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout (1/18/2012 12:28:05 PM)

You can still access Wikipedia through Answers.com -- I changed a routing this morning for a class.

Lucylastic -> RE: English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout (1/18/2012 12:46:24 PM)

That has to be a satirical site please tell me it is???
because I just put in the search term vagina after not being able to find clitoris(hey Im female I know mine is!!!!)
and this is what I found
http://conservapedia.com/Human_reproduction/archive1
Now I know which "pedia" some of our more "out there" posters use as sources

Musicmystery -> RE: English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout (1/18/2012 12:49:28 PM)

Try "kangaroo" --

Consistent with their view that the fossil record as a whole does not support the evolutionary position[3][4], creationists state that there is a lack of transitional fossils showing an evolutionary origin of kangaroos.

According to the origins theory model used by young earth creation scientists, modern kangaroos are the descendants of the two founding members of the modern kangaroo baramin that were taken aboard Noah's Ark prior to the Great Flood. It has not yet been determined by baraminologists whether kangaroos form a holobaramin with the wallaby, tree-kangaroo, wallaroo, pademelon and quokka, or if all these species are in fact apobaraminic or polybaraminic.

After the Flood, these kangaroos, bred from the Ark passengers, migrated to Australia. There is debate whether this migration happened over land[6] with lower sea levels during the post-flood ice age, or before the super-continent of Pangea broke apart.[7].

PeonForHer -> RE: English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout (1/18/2012 1:08:11 PM)

The entry on 'Immorality':

"Immorality is a common trait among Atheists[1][2] and Homosexuals. It is usually promoted by Liberals."

Excellent! [:D]

Unfortunately, it is not.  IIRC it was started by some bibical literalist dumbass to "counter" liberal "lies."

I like how at the very bottom under "categories," it lists "sin" and "liberal traits."  I think I'll look up the word "obejectivity."

Musicmystery -> RE: English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout (1/18/2012 1:37:09 PM)

They have no entry for "dumbass."

Literally, they do not recognize dumbasses.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout (1/18/2012 2:20:54 PM)

I worry about any bill passed here. Think of what got snuck through under the umbrella of the Patriot Act.

Can't stop the signal? We'll see.

So wait a second here.

You're supporting the SOPA bill because you're against content being used without the creator and/or proprietor's consent because you consider it wrong for people to access content for their own purposes bypassing usage requirements the creator and/or proprietor have put in place and wish to see uphold to grant you access to said content.

Yet... you're completely cool with going against the wikimedia's explicit desire for their content NOT to be accessed within the next 24 hours, and instead have explicitly put in the effort to find a way to access THEIR content against their wishes because, in THIS situation, it was convenient for you to have your class do so.

Hypocrisy at it's best...

Musicmystery -> RE: English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout (1/18/2012 2:53:33 PM)

I'm against using copyrighted material as it was not intended for financial gain or at the loss of the copyright holder's financial rights.

Neither applies here. Now, if Wikipedia started charging, and I circumvented their intent, that would be different. An example would be when the Times was charging for Times Select. Can I get behind to view the content? Yes. Would I post it elsewhere? No.

In this case, I simply used a different website that links to a wide range of content. If Wikipedia wanted to merely shut down, it could have. Clearly, hot links and feed were still working, and that's something a site owner can control. The content is available readily elsewhere. That website is open and available. I switched providers.

Wikipedia's intent was noted--they flashed the content and then their message. I elected not to let their opinions dictate my day or my students' day.

If that distinction doesn't work for you, bummer.

If you're all for creative rights, that content wasn't created by Wikipedia, merely hosted. None of the contributors were consulted--because they already agreed to publicly share their work for free.

Sorry, I am now completely distracted by my new love: Conservapedia.com

What were we talking about?

Miserlou -> RE: English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout (1/18/2012 6:26:36 PM)

my issue with the bill is that it allows for copyright holders to force other businesses to stop doing legitimate business with a site that they claim is violating their copyright. as far as i have seen from the bill, there is no need for the person claiming to hold the copyright to prove that they do, or that it has been infringed, they merely have to claim it has. then the other business is required to notify the suspect site and so on, making the 3rd party liable for the actions of another site, and also requiring the 3rd party to initiate penalties instead of the courts. it is the lack of a court oversight that bothers me (not that i trust our courts too much, but still it is better than no oversight).

i am also worried about the voluntary restriction granting immunity, what the bill basically does, to the best of my understanding, is to make advertisers and companies like paypal responsible to police the actions of all those who they do business with, which is simply wrong.
