Anybody but Obama will win. Republicans and independents and even democrats will show up to vote this socialist hack out of office even if it's Romney. Obama's approval rating is down, and averages 44%. But Congress' is in the low teens, the lowest in history, and the Republican party polls lower than Democrats (both currently in the 20s). So I think your read is subjective. I'm with MM here. Obama is politically weak (the guy still scores high on personal likability). But the only way the GOP can knock him out of office is to run someone against him that is stronger than he is, and their field is weak. Santorum and Paul would be nothing more than speed bumps to Obama, and Obama already is preparing a tax-the-rich approach in SOTU anticipating that Romney will win. (Newt's shown Obama how to deflate Romney's soft support.) The wild option is if Newt gets the nomination. His style is nasty, negative campaigning, and he won't be restrained against Obama like he should have been against Romney. He'll also have desperation on his side because Obama will have ten times the money to campaign that Newt has. No matter who wins if Newt is the GOP candidate, they'll have a crippled four years because of the damage done during the campaign.
