Um, Jim, Newt's affairs and divorces have indeed been public info for fifteen years. The fact that he proposed an open marriage has AFAIK not been public till now. The premise of this thread is that his support for open marriage will hurt him more than his cheating and divorces will.

If someone didn't have a problem with what they already knew, I doubt they will feel differently because of this. To me cheating on a sick wife is much worse than suggesting that they have an open relationship. That would be like saying that we will overlook that guy who robbed the cash register, but get all worked up when we found out he grabbed a pack of gum on his way out. He already robbed the store, who cares about the gum?

How many conservative women will vote for Newt knowing how he handled the ends of his marriages?

How many will vote for Obama ?

DarkSteven -> RE: Newt's campaign comes to an end (1/19/2012 8:32:40 PM)

THB, I'm going to disagree with you.  You're an open-minded lesbian living in the kink community.  You are FAR different than the conservative Republicans that Gingrich depends on for his support.

They have four choices in the primary: Romney, Paul, Gingrich, and Santorum.  Everyone but Gingrich has been married once.  The conservatives have already had to swallow Newt's affairs and divorces.  Now they're being asked to swallow his "open marriage" as well.

Everyone, rich or poor, Republican, Democrat, or Independent, knows some people who've had affairs and some who've divorced.  But relatively few know someone who's known for pushing an open marriage.  This should be something new and disturbing.  I expect Santorum especially to slide in a few digs about monogamy in the next few weeks - he is fighting Gingrich for capturing the exact same demographic, and he knows if he can pull Newt's support to his side, he will be a formidable force in the primary.

I assumed that Ken's question pertained to the primary, not the general.

I never liked Newt after he rammed "NAFTA" through the House in 1993-94.
Not that I liked him before.
Also he was a lobbyist recently so he's "dirty."

Moonhead -> RE: Newt's campaign comes to an end (1/20/2012 4:31:50 AM)

If Gringrich "rammed NAFTA through the house in 1993-4", why are you forever moaning about that being Clinton's fault?

That's a good point, you may be right.

Thanks for reminding me. [:'(]

No sign of an answer to that, you'll note...

Careful, Lucy: you don't want to give anybody an excuse to run for a moderator.

Then do, please, explain what he meant by his interview the day before when he admitted what she would say would hurt him.. and how his children knew and contacted ABC themselves to try and kill this story.

Question, how can you tell when Newt Gingrich is lying?

Moonhead -> RE: Newt's campaign comes to an end (1/20/2012 1:54:11 PM)

His lips move.
