Actually I find the "fix it" rather endearing, and sometimes even helpful. Really, there should be classes in How Men Talk for the young girls, at about the same time they tell them about the Excitement of Menstruation. Think of the time it will save! And the adjusted expectations, when they see that there are conversations men are Just Not Suited For!

Status: offline 		I remember one 'debate' Generic Dude and I had about how he hated that I didn't tell him stuff. Stuff he felt I should be telling him. He was upset that I didn't confide more in him. His career training caused him to be suspicious of me, that I was purposely hiding things from him.

I explained to him that I didn't because I didn't want to hear what he thought I should do about whatever it was. That I was sick of hearing about how he felt I should handle every bloody thing. I told him that IF I could tell him something and just get a little sincere listening and maybe a little empathy without the condescending advice, I might actually tell him more.

To be honest, even after 21 years and 8 months, I am still not convinced he 'gets it'.

I agree. I can't even count the number of times that a woman has asked me that, and the true answer was "nothing". My brain was completely empty at the time. I was in a mental vegetative state. But rather than tell her that, I'd say something like "I was just thinking about how much I love you".

Women are suckers for that answer.

I find it hard to believe that you can't imagine a woman asking that question. I've been asked that question a billion times (maybe more).

Hmmmmmm, I'm starting to question your gender, LadyHib. Are you really a guy pretending to be a woman? Most "real" women ask their husband/boyfriend that question at least 47 times per day.

The only time I ask my man what's on his mind is if he suddenly starts laughing about something that has obviously tickled him. other than that, I don't see the point.

If he wants me to know what's on his mind, he usually tells me.

OMG FLASHBACK... a Saturday Night Live sketch from the '70's. Jill Clayburgh is at a table with her date, lalala, he gives her some glamourous answer, then asks What are YOU thinking, honey? Her response: WARTHOGS.
