Absolutely, definitely, not ever, this.  Sorry, but that last line especially makes me feel ill!

Nothing to be sorry about. Different folks and all that. And I'm not a gun freak or anything, either. The thread just happens to be about guns. Truth is, I'd rather have a sandwich. :)

outlier -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/6/2012 6:39:40 PM)

A couple of weeks ago hlen5 posted this thread about Sundance short films

One of them was called The Debutante Hunters.  12:38
http://screen.yahoo.com/debutante-hunters-27874990.html

It shows these lovely young women from South Carolina sitting
and discussing guns wearing cashmere sweater and pearls, then
putting on thier camo gear and going out and killing things.  Then
they host a family barbecue where they eat the kill.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/6/2012 6:40:43 PM)

Oooh a sandwich! And cake. Cake trumps guns any day.

'Lovely young women'?!

Bloody hell.  I can't think of any post that could prove my point about differences in cultures better.  Thanks for that, outlier.  Jesus.

Great gals, OL. I take my hat off to them.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/6/2012 6:56:42 PM)

How do you eat the roast venison if you don't shoot it first? Meat comes from somewhere.

outlier -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/6/2012 7:01:44 PM)

Peon,

A couple of points.  First the USA is large enough that the
culture represented by the young women in the film is different
than a lot of the rest of the country.  Thus the impact of the film.
The women in the film are aware of this and discuss it during the film.

Second, Haven't I seen images of members of your Royal Family hunting?
And I think I remember that the females of the family were part of the hunt.
Or is my memory faulty on this topic.

Aynne88 -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/6/2012 7:16:48 PM)

And the absolutely disgusting hunts there where fox are torn apart by dogs I do believe is a Brit thing as well, no?

Me, personally, I wouldn't be under the same roof with a man the couldn't  aptly handle a long gun to a Glock on the first sound of an intruder in the middle of the night and I wouldn't feel comfortable if I couldn't do the same with at least a decent amount of proficiency. Of course, the custom laser sights on my .357 helps me a bit there.

Don't tell me that Thelma and Louise in the scene where she blasts that rapist off the hood of the car wasn't on some visceral sense hot, or at least a primal sense of having the same kind of brute force that man have always had against women. Sexy, being able to even the playing field....way sexier than being raped or worse.

Let's not even start on Jodie Foster's character where she finally gets to blast the bastard that brutally raped her and killed her man, right in front of a cop, and when the crawling begging slime looks over at the cop as she has the gun on him and says "Hey man, your a cop!" and he says "Not tonight I'm not" and walks away, leaving her to do the ultimate justice? I found that pretty hot.

DesFIP -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/6/2012 7:47:10 PM)

Not to me. I see no appeal to guns.
I have friends who hunt and I'm always happy if they get a deer (doe permits please). But I have no interest in learning how. Nor in field dressing the meat.

And although we had a drought year plagued by nuisance bears, I refused to get a shotgun despite being advised to. I'd rather wake up my friendly forest ranger and get him to shoot the creature if necessary.

Your memory isn't faulty.  That's an aspect of culture that I don't share, either - despite it being British.

Sorry.  It wasn't hot for me.  It really, really, wasn't hot.

Meat comes from the grocery store, silly. Everyone knows that.[8|]

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/7/2012 7:49:59 AM)

Interesting choice, DES. I also live in an area where there are bears and cougars. I wouldn't really call them "nuisances" since it was there home long before it was mine. Nevertheless, one of the reasons I keep guns is because of attacks. If a bear was coming after one of my dogs or horses ( or me, for that matter) I wouldn't be able to wait for help.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/7/2012 7:55:31 AM)

My SO is a hunter, so he bought me camo, and took me with him duck hunting. Obviously, one of the things he finds sexy is sharing his sport with his SO. I enjoyed the trip, and definitely enjoyed eating the duck. Hey, sometimes I wear cashmere and pearls, too. Maybe they should make a movie about me.

Hey Peon, didn't they ban fox hunting in England a few years ago?

hardcybermaster -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/7/2012 10:39:01 AM)

Interesting choice too Iam. So you go into their home and then shoot them if they go for one of your pets? Doesn't seem very fair does it? Good job bears can't use guns as you would be dead

Ninebelowzero -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/7/2012 10:54:16 AM)

For the other Brits.

A firearm is a machine tool. It is inert. it will not or cannot do anything on it's own. If you have an issue then it is specifically with the asshole at the blunt end. Having shot for most of my life there are a surplus of them that it is safer to be in front of the pointy bit.

My ex used to shoot competitively against me & single shot stages she was as good as anyone. Rapid fire not so, as she struggled to control the recoil. Having said that the game old bird was once seen to fire a .50cal from the shoulder. I caught her a few feet back.

I used to hunt wild boar & deer I don't do that as my eyes aren't good enough. I still comp at low level & help run a rifle club as an investment for the future because as soon as boy is big enough I will take him to the range to shoot. We run the range on British army discipline & I'm a qualified range officer, boy hass already been with me acting as a range warden & loved the rigidity of the discipline & is genuinely interested in the engineering of firearms & the historical aspects.

Yes, in 2004.  In Scotland it was banned in 2002.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/7/2012 11:00:18 AM)

Geez, Cyber, who pissed in your corn flakes?
Just so you know, I have been able to peacefully coexist with the wildlife in my area for 15 years.  This includes taking steps to make sure there is no garbage or other things to attract bears and not leaving my animals loose and unattended.  A cougar did stalk one of my kids one time, but my son grabbed a machete, called the dogs, and backed into the house.  But yes, I would shoot a cougar in my horse corral.  Don't know many people who wouldn't.

I'm guessing you are a city boy.

There are all sorts of arguments surrounding that issue, Nine, but I don't see that they have much of a bearing on this present question of whether or not guns are 'sexy'.

Ninebelowzero -> RE: Hot girls and guns! (2/7/2012 11:04:18 AM)

Some cars, hi fi's are classed as sexy by some, so can bangsticks.
