They take small dogs, large dogs, and sometimes have attacked kids and even adults. Part of living in or near the wild.

They are dangerous, and usually you don't see them unless they are stalking you. They are pretty shy. There have been several cases of people killed by cougar in the US in the last few years, as their habitat is being encroached upon. I am sure a lot of hunting hounds ended up at the animal shelter after fox hunting was banned. I remember there being quite an outcry.
