I've taken the morning after pill twice - both times for a condom break.

JanahX -> RE: Vending morning after pill (2/7/2012 7:55:09 AM)

I always thought the plan B pill should come in huge bags like a giant bag of M&Ms. And every fertile woman should have them around - in case of a pregnancy scare/unwanted pregnacy. It would save a lot of hassles and tax payer money.

I think there is potential for abuse and even assault on men (through the use of it as chemical castration).

You're kidding right? You did read how it's $25 dollars a dose?

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Vending morning after pill (2/7/2012 8:08:24 AM)

Way the hell cheaper than an abortion. Or raising a kid.

I like this. $25 a dose is unconscionable greed by the manufacturer, though.

Its 25 to 50 through most pharmacies.

You think people are going to get mifepristone from vending machines to give to men for chemical castration???

At Shippensburg University, getting access to Plan B, the emergency contraception pill is as easy as getting a soda. Students can now buy the pill at a vending machine on campus.

I have mixed feeling about this. Because of side effects and lack of long term studies, I think it should truly be a Plan B, and as such, have a little barrier to obtaining it.

I'm concerned that such availability will turn it into a Plan A, to the detriment of a woman's health.

On a college campus? Oh yes.

"It was just a prank!"

On a college campus? Oh yes.

"It was just a prank!"

It's an over the counter drug. Is it REALLY that much more likely to be misused because it was in a vending machine instead of across the street at the pharmacy?

If you're going to blow $25 to prank someone, a city block farther away doesn't mean a hell of a lot.

kalikshama -> RE: Vending morning after pill (2/7/2012 9:02:49 AM)

This is so silly I'm not going to finish the research necessary to find out how many doses must be given how often for chemical castration to occur.

Here's a start. (Note: mifepristone /= Depo-Provera.)

Dosage Level.

Tailored for the specific patient, intramuscular injections of Depo-Provera range from 100 milligrams to 500 milligrams (1.0 to 5.0 milliliters) every 7 days. The typical weekly maintenance dosage of Depo-Provera for sex offenders is 300 milligrams. For taller, heavier patients, the maintenance dosage may be as high as 500 milligrams, and the highest dosage used is 600 milligrams per week.

I'm concerned about how this thread has drifted from women's health to men's libido.

That much more likely? Possibly since it would make it easier to make it a last minute idea.

I was really only pointing out that I believed that it would/could happen. More of a "college students do stupid crap."

I can see a sorority doing it at a keg party among other situations. Yes, I most definitely can see it happening on a college campus.

Like I said, I don't see Plan B as a women's "health" issue since pregnancy is not a disease. Now if it prevented/cured STDs, that would be a different story.

kalikshama -> RE: Vending morning after pill (2/7/2012 9:41:26 AM)

Health is inclusive of more than disease.

Do you know how many hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars that would take to get a sufficient dose? We're really reaching here.
I've pulled college pranks with the best of em. (Ask me on the other side about Sodium Fluorescinate in the punch or a little phenolpthalein injection into a chocolate eclaire to catch a food thief. [8|] ). Pranksters tend to do things that give them the best bang for their buck and making a bunch of frat boys impotent for a coupla days at a cost of hundreds of dollars isn't what I would call economical.

I WOULD, however, call it a public service.[8D]

Right there ladies and gentlemen is the entire anti-woman playbook in a nutshell. It didn't drift. It was intentionally shoved.

Fine. It's a "Wellness" issue. Happy?

Ah so your solution is to force women into reporting. Nice. Raped once, lets rape them again through the system, and again through teh court trial.. and again through public media.

My solution is better than the solution that allows rapists to re-offend with impunity because no one reports it. As I said...if only some banks liked your solution, I'd could be a rich man by tomorrow.
