FR

I don't consider this a matter of sexual health since Plan B does nothing about STDs. Pregnancy is not a disease.

If it is being prescribed for specific health conditions, that is a different story and would be covered under insurance.

I think there is potential for abuse and even assault on men (through the use of it as chemical castration). If they want to provide it through the college's health center where it gets attached to the student's records, fine. But I don't think just handing it to anyone is the way to go. But then I'm against it being OTC in the first place, particularly when oral contraceptives are Rx and this is an even higher dose. I find that irresponsible of the FDA and based in politicking instead of science.

Doesnt matter what you consider it to be or not.

Within the framework of the World Health Organization's (WHO) definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, reproductive health, or sexual health/hygiene, addresses the reproductive processes, functions and system at all stages of life

Why to the student;s records? They arent attached when the student goes to the pharmacy or the ER. That has absolutely no business in college records.

Tailored for the specific patient, intramuscular injections of Depo-Provera range from 100 milligrams to 500 milligrams (1.0 to 5.0 milliliters) every 7 days. The typical weekly maintenance dosage of Depo-Provera for sex offenders is 300 milligrams. For taller, heavier patients, the maintenance dosage may be as high as 500 milligrams, and the highest dosage used is 600 milligrams per week.

Plan B One-Step (levonorgestrel) tablet, 1.5 mg, for oral use. To get the weekly typical does, it would require 200 pills... and that is provided that the pills work as effectively as the shots.

If a guy cant tell he just ingested 200 pills... he has more problems than his ability to achieve an erection.

Honey, I can only educate people so much. They have to want to learn, instead of listening to the talking points.

This is a wonderful idea. Many colleges have students without cars, making a trip to the pharmacy very hard.

Its 25 to 50 through most pharmacies.

True, but irrelevant (IMO).

littlewonder -> RE: Vending morning after pill (2/7/2012 9:39:32 PM)

I have no problem. The girls are over 18, they don't need permission from parents, they're adults and they can get it at a pharmacy anyway by just asking. I don't see why it's a problem.

My brother lives right next door to the university and rents some rooms to college students. I was just talking to him yesterday about this actually. He thinks it's a great idea and wishes it would have been available when his daughter went there since she now has 3 kids he has to take care of.

I also have another niece who attends the university and so far there's been no problems with it and students barely make a deal about it.

Pretty tiny percentages there. And those stats are supposed to... help your case? LoL

This is right there at the top of the list of terminally moronic statements you've typed.

A little Primary school math for the typers of terminally moronic posts:

(7.3% +4.4%)/100 = a failure rate of 11.7 percent. If all those failures resulted in a pregnancy, and all those pregnancies came to term, there would be 117 children for every 1000 acts of het genital intercourse. The wingnuts would be shitting pineapples over having to pay TANF and SNAP bennies for any of those kids. And if they weren't carried to term, and they were terminated, the swinging dicks headcases of the Anti-Choice brigade would be bombing clinics and murdering doctors left and right.

11.7% failure rate...
"These Badyear tires are top of the line! Don't go too fast, though, Mr. Mirror, you have a blowout at 80MPH in that Escalate of yours, you'll be squished like a bug on the windshield! But don't worry, it's only a tiny failure rate of only 11.7 %."

"Well, the bad news, Mr. Mirror, is that drinking and smoking and fast food and weekend barbeques there in Whiteflightville have clogged your arteries so much it's a wonder your wife isn't out Cougaring! But there's a new drug that cleans 'em out just like drano dissolves grease, grime, and hair! And the studies showed that there's only a tiny chance of a fatality during therapy! Only 11.7%!"

"Fly DirtCheep Airlines! We pass what we save on tripling the maintenance interval to you! We have an 88.3% arrival rate, one of the best in the ultra-low airline industry since President Paul and Congress defunded the FAA! You'll arrive safe and on-time! (usually)"

Did I say terminally moronic? I'm so prone to understatement lately...

Yes, you did say terminally moronic, which describes your entire post since it had absolutely nothing to do with my point.

Tazzy posted those stats as an offering of why the plan b in vending machines would not earn that campus the title of sluttiest campus. In doings, she proved my point for me. This is because if her assertion that the pill doesn't lead to slutty behavior (because it's supposedly for those times when the condom breaks) then 11.7% failure rate means, presumably, an 88.3% success rate.

So (since you like math lessons) that means plan b in a vending machine *should* be un-necessary. However, there it is, just the same. It's there as a "plan a" for those who don't take the proper precautions before engaging in sex, *as well as* for your your lovely 11.7% who experience contraceptive failure, because the 88.3% who don't experience failure don't need a plan b.

With the new counter culture and Anonymous you can expect "them"

With the Pharma industry you can expect to be missing a nut when they are done with ya.

There was a posting here last week about how abilify could end costing the uninsured a million in a year... How fucked is that... just to be able to keep your cool?

And on top of that you want to make fun of HK's posts.

That person called me lovely... [:)]

In all the bazillion times I have been sexually active, only twice did I actually use this pill... due to circumstances beyond my control and for a "plan b" reason.  And I gotta tell you, I would have sincerely paid $500 each time.  I say hallefrickinglujah for that school being realistic.

Emotions, sexuality, relationships are not all cut and dried and simple.  Sometimes things happen.  And when they do, being able to clean up the spilled milk is usually considered a good thing.  At least it is in sunshineworld.

(Oh and by the way, I believe it's the sexual encounters that the percentages are speaking to, not the number of people.  I could be wrong.)

The hysterical one is you for thinking I have any "concern" whatsoever. I merely made a statement. Magazines like Maxim and FHM, as well as a few websites, actually do things like rate which college campus is the sluttiest or which is the bigger "party school." All I said was that this machine will likely help earn this school such a title, just the same as having a keg in the cafeteria would earn a school the "top party school" honor. I made no judgments either way about sluts. I merely made a statement. It's ashame you and some others can't handle that statement, but that's not really my problem.

that would cost $5000. i think we can safely disregard "pranking" men being much of an issue, unless college kids have a lot more money than i do.

It's Quayle. Any possible relationship to Liebnitz, Schrödinger, or Hawking have been conclusively ruled out. He evidently thinks STD is some old Haight-Ashbury psychedelic.

Very true, sunny. Its per use, not per sexual encounter. It could all be happening to 5 guys... or it could have happened to 100 guys only once.

Besides, you already love me.
