Awww, you're welcome! One thing to know about Prime is that you can "share" it with (I think) up to seven friends. Now, as you look at the page, you'll see the "primary" Prime holder gets a few more perks than the secondary holders, but the free shipping (and 3.95 next day delivery) on SO MANY things makes it very nice!

I'm still on the fence about Prime. It costs $79, and you get "free" 2-day shipping, but most the items that are eligible for the "free" shipping are priced much higher than identical items that are sold by vendors other than Amazon. Many times, the cheaper price plus regular shipping is still way cheaper than the Amazon full-price with "free" shipping. There might be some bargains to be found, but it seems like you have to do some serious shopping around and price comparisons. I did find a few bargains in the craft books section....

Also, it says you can borrow from the Kindle users library, but only one a month. And you get only one best seller a month. So it seems pretty restricted.

Maybe I'll uncover some big bargains to make paying $79 seem worthwhile, but at this point in time, I see myself loading up as many free books as I can to the Kindle (which I am loving, so far!) and making a few more purchases, and I'll probably just cancel it when the month is up.

Well, if you "borrow" one bestseller that would normally cost $13. or so per month, it would be paid off in about six months. I have to disagree about the shipping though. We've bought so much through Amazon, and generally, their shipping is much less than their vendors, even without Prime. We've always been huge Amazon fans though, even before we got Prime. We finally got it as a three month free trial once, and saved a ton of money with it. (we like to help out the economy as much as our own economy will allow!)

We've had some extremely heavy things delivered for free. (a grill, a generator, some tools)

I should have added "for me" after my statements :) I don't buy best sellers anyway....don't really even read them on a regular basis. I think the last best seller I read was The DaVinci Code, so that gives you an idea of the last time I read one, lol. I don't buy any books full price, I borrow from the library or pick them up at yard sales, flea markets and used book stores. So, for me, I'm paying $79 to "save" money I wouldn't have spent in the first place, lol. See what I mean?

And I agree with the shipping, to a degree, but I almost never buy from Amazon directly unless I'm buying things that cost more than $25 to qualify for the free "Super Saver" shipping. The free Prime shipping is two-day shipping, which is great, but if I find the product from a vendor priced at $50 less than Amazon, and just wait another day or three for it to arrive, I still save a lot more money, as opposed to paying $79 and then paying a higher price for the product, just to say the shipping was free and have it arrive in two days.

I'm not saying the whole Prime package is bad, I just don't foresee it really being that beneficial for MY lifestyle, but it sounds like it works great for yours :) I will, however, probably be taking advantage of the free trial this month and buying those heavy items I want, like the Kitchenaid mixer in lime green [:)]

kalikshama -> RE: E-readers....need help (2/26/2012 3:42:27 PM)

If last year's shipping costs had been close to $79, I would have signed up for Prime, but as I usually get the free "Super Saver" shipping, it was only $34 so I waited.

Although I need a GPS by Wed late morning and they seem to be much cheaper at Amazon than Best Buy so am going to take another look at Prime.
