susie -> When did Sean Penn become a politician??? (2/17/2012 7:39:30 AM)

I never really rated him much as an actor but he certainly has less respect from me now

Obviously it would help if he understood a little about the real postion before spouting his mouth off.

But its the Mail, you see.

Sean Penn has always been a trigger mouthed activist. It's only just now that he's attacked the precious second coming of christ that he's getting any attention over there.

One could say the same about the political statements made by Charlton Heston calling for the blacklisting of actors, directors and screenwriters who were public supporters of Democratic political candidates (made when he ran unsuccessfully for President of the Screen Actors' Guild in 1985, losing to Patty Duke Austin) and John Wayne who actively supported Senator Joe MCarthy's witchhunts in the 1950's and the blacklist of the 1950's.

Today we have Kelsey Grammer (formerly TV's "Frasier") publically expressing his Right-wing views - so one could consider him the mirror image of Sean Penn.

Of course, one can also argue that, by becoming an actor, an American does not give up his or her 1st Amendment rights to Freedom of Speech.

Yeah okay... well I guess we differ there bit. The guy spent his fortune basically rebuilding Haiti and then had to go out and do films to restore his coffers... So if he wants to take a position after paying some real dues. I'm gonna go with the notion he has the right to be outspoken and if the media is buying welllllllll......
You do the math.

The words 'real' and a citation from the Daily Mail don't belong in the same post, Susie. Just saying.

The very moment you concerned yourselves with him.

You`re welcome.

Could you please explain the "real position" to us.

Thank you.

Here is a timeline of events. The irony of an American arguing about who inhabited the place first is lost on Sean Penn. The fact remains that the local populace wish to remain part of Britain. As you can see from the timeline, Argentinian claims to the territory come pretty late on. The Islands were also uninhabited when British sailors landed there in 1690.

An example of what happens when "actors" like Mr. Sean "I've been to Iraq you know" Penn weigh in on political matters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B3T9hv7UmU - it can be messy! [;)]

A lot of actors think because they are famous, everyone cares what they think. My favorites are the ones who threaten to leave the country if their candidate of choice isn't elected. Funny how they never leave though.

Or if legislation they don't like gets passed.

I guess you could call Rush an actor.

Since you didn't qualify good or bad, yea I guess you could call him that.

True. That only works for actors that aren't much good and not particularly famous - as Reagan demonstrated.

It's not messy if he doesn't actually get elected.

Apropos the OP's question of when Mr.Penn became a politician; A) I don't see him running for office. B) The implication of the question being "when does an actor think he's a politician?", well, lets ask the well known Boraxo spokesman, Mr. 'trees cause pollution' Reagan his views on the matter. The Terminator might also be of assistance in that quest.
