I am still fairly new to the scene and was contacted by a wonderful Master whom i met a few weeks ago. Well we clicked and things are progressing very well...hence i withdrew my profile.

Today He mentioned one day He may perhaps ask me to have my nipples pierced and this is why i am writing.

How bad does it hurt?
Does it bleed a lot?
Where would i go to get it done?
How do i know the place is hygenic etc?
Do people have to be licensed to do this?
Is there a registry of piercers or something like?

Thanks for your help.

Pain is relative. If you go in thinking it's going to be excruciating, it probably will be. Just think of it as a quick poke and it'll be fine.

Both times I've had mine done, the bleeding was minimal.

Not knowing your location, I can't suggest a shop for you to patronize. If you're familiar with Usenet, you might consider asking for shop recommentations in the newsgroup rec.arts.bodyart.

How do i know the place is hygenic etc?

Ask for a tour of the establishment. They should be willing to show you their autoclave and recent spore test results. If they refuse or the spore test is not up to date, look elsewhere. Use common sense and you should be ok.

quote:

Do people have to be licensed to do this?

Most munincipalities have licensing requirements governed by the local board of health, but there is no real licensing body to guarantee a piercer's skill level. Talk with the piercer(s), find out how long they have been piercing, look through their portfolios. If you don't feel comfortable with the person, move on.

Is there a registry of piercers or something like?

No.

Ijust when through the whole nipple-peircing thing, and there's quite a wonderful thread on here about it, which I'm not gonna look up at the moment.

Still, in breif-

How bad does it hurt?
It hurt me worse than anything has ever hurt. It was, without a doubt, the most painful experience of my life. I have a respectably high pain tolerance, and if I hadn't -really- wanted to do it I would have halted the process after one piercing. As I -did- really want it, we did both, and had to repeirce the second one becaues the jewelry wouldn't go through.

But this is a person to person thing.

Does it bleed a lot?
This is also a person to person thing. I bled a whole bunch. I surprised the peircer with how much I bled.

Where would i go to get it done?
Go to a professional. Read the other "nipple peircing" and "nipple peircing at home" threads for more info. Someone posted -great- stuff.

How do i know the place is hygenic etc?
Ditto above

If you are peircing your nipples -for- someone, be prepared to be -very- firm that they will NOT be played with untill they are fully healed. I know this is hard to do sometimes as the submissive partner, however for saftey and peircing health do -not- allow yourself to be pressured into nipple play of -any- sort untill they are fully healed.

Healing can take up to 6 months or more, depending on your body. Mine were done in August and they were just able to be played with for the first time a week or so ago. It took a whole lot of mental fortitude to refuse my partner, time and again, as this is not something I do, for the most part. Talk to your partner beforehand and establish that you -will- be refusing this, for saftey, and insure that you will not get in trouble for refusing.

Oh my - my first ever post and on something Ive done lol

I got one nipple pierced and then went back a few weeks later for the second. Have to say I have big nipples and I found it painful but the pain w as only for as long as it took to pierce them. I had barbells instead of rings put in becuase they heal a little quicker. I hardly bled and they were tender for a week or so but nothing major - I had stressed about getting them done but had someone encouraging me so I did it and I dont regret it - I LOVE my piercings Hardest thing was having to leave them alone for a few weeks and even then they still got a little weepy if overplayed with or my kids accidentally knocked them ( I have 3 under 5 so that happened a little).......Just dont do it for someone else if you dont want to.............and if you do get them pierced enjoy them *smile*

Oops forgot to add make sure the place that does them has some sort of health dept approval (not sure what that is likely to be in the US) and that they use sterilised equipement and gloves and youll be right.

This girl did not have any pain.... Deep breath let it out slowly and it's done.
very little bleeding.

HOWEVER, one thing to remember..... stormi's piercing was over a year old when
she did some electric play.... from that point on it was like having a fairly new piercing.
It drained it got crusty ect....

stormi also had a barbell... due to large nipples and the size of her chest. According to
the piercer the larger the chest and nipple the more reason to use barbells. Rings will
tend to want to migrate out when there is the pressure of a bra pushing them back.

Can't say that any of it was a bad experience. stormi has had several piercings in the past
and currently has 2 tatoos that all involved very little discomfort.

Be well,

I think I've asked before, but I still don't know.

What does it mean that "rings may migrate"? Even sites about peircing use this word _ migrate." How is it specifically applicable to nipple piercing?

Newflowers,

have you seen women with heavy earrings on. . .and their hole looks elongated? Instead of nice pierced holes. . .they turn into lines? That is an example of migration. The body senses that there is a foreign object in there (the skin) and it tries to push it out. Also, outside factors such as weight and pressure can cause migration.

Jules

Thanks Jules.

I can see where this can happen with rings, especially if they are heavy, but does it not happen also with the bars?

I'm not an expert on the subject matter, but for my nipple piercings, the person who did it suggested a circular barbell (so that there wasn't too much pressue on it to cause it to migrate) I think your best bet would be to talk to the person who is doing the piercing and they can probably tell you the best one to put in that spot ;)

Also, if you do a search on the internet for "piercing migration" there are EXCELLENT articles written on it (I was afraid mine would and totally read up on the subject)

:D

it is less likely to happen with bars. the reason is for the most part the pressure
of being in a bra is distributed evenly. There for it's not being pushed like a ring.
a ring would be most likely pushed down on the bottom and outward on the top.
that causes migration... enough of that and the ring will actually push right out of
the nipple.

does that help explain it??

Hate to thread-jack, but I have a question.

I've had my left nipple pierced for a year next month, with a captive bead ring. I keep vry clean, but it still smells funny, like my belly piercing almost. Any idea on what's causing this? How do I make the smell go away?

i think it all depends on how sensitive your nipples are. mine are not sensitive at all, so i barely felt it when my nipples were pierced. i barely bled as well. my tongue actually hurt way more and even the piercer thought it was strange. So, if you have sensitive nipples you will probably feel it. But its done so quickly and all you'll have to deal with is tenderness for a while.

As far as licensing.... most piercers learn through an apprenticeship. Thats where there are trained by a very experienced piercer for at least 6 months. You could always ask how long have they been piercing and to see their portfolio.

How clean the place is? Well i walked into a place once that smelled of fried chicken and ciggerette smoke. Probably not a good idea to get pierced there. LOL!! If i walk into a place and it smells like rubbing alcohol then i'll pull up a chair.

How bad does it hurt?
on a 1 to 10 scale, with 10 being vomiting and passing out from pain, nipple piercing for me was about a 3.
Does it bleed a lot?
no
Where should I go to get it done?
any tattoo shop will be able to either do it or guide you to someone who can.
How do you know the place is hygenic?
little clues like autoclaves, disposable needles, latex gloves being worn, and don't forget the gossip grapevine!
Do people have to be licensed?
depends on where they are
Is there a registry of piercers?
I dunno - we did it ourselves here at home.

I think everyone has given you great info so far, and I can't really add much to it. But...

Be picky about your piercer, but most reputable shops should be fairly safe. What I think is even more important is to be comfortable with the person who will do your piercing.

I think the answers to a lot of your questions are pretty relative. I've talked to people who thought their nipple piercings were no worse than an ear piercing. For me, it was the most excruciating thing I've experienced... followed, of course, by a wonderful flight on the endorphin express.

I didn't bleed much at all, but my left nipple took over a year to fully heal. That's something to consider, because until they heal, they are NOT safe to play with. It sucks to get an infection there. Trust me on that one.

Good luck, and enjoy the experience. In the right mindset, it can be pretty magical.

The pain varies from person to person, mostly depending on pain tolerance. For me my entire breasts felt like they were on fire for about 3 days BUT I WOULD DO IT OVER AGAIN, they were so worth it!

my nips didn't bleed alot but did some.

As to where to get them done just ask around your local area, where are most people going? How were there experiences? Would they go back to that same piercer? Check out the establishments. Are they clean? Are they organized? Ask about their sterilization procedures. You might also be able to check them out with your county health dept. since some states require the same types of checks as restaurants. Do they have any violations?

One of the ways you can tell if a place is hygenic is simply by looking. If there is food or anything unsanitary around the equipment or work areas then i wouldn't even consider getting a piercing there. After equipment has been sterilized it is put into sterile packaging, don't think ziplocks are sterile packaging, i'm talking about medical packaging. Do they do that? If you decide to go with a certain place make sure they are opening the packages right in front of you so that you are certain it is a fresh tool.

i think licensing varies from state to state. Call some piercing places and ask where you can find state laws and mandates on the laws.

i honestly don't know if there is a registry. Try doing a net search for it.

Here is a bit of advice that you didn't ask for...
as erotic or pleasurable as it might be to do any body modification for a Dom make sure it is for you as well. make sure it is something that you will enjoy as well.
