So as a liberal, I'm a Non-American, right? Isn't that what Sarah Palin said?

Its clear the republican party has no intention of helping to solve the problems facing america, to the point of sabotaging the election.
Fox news is the worst news out there, including the( "sun" and NOTW in the UK.)america has, along with a few other things.
Rick Santorum is a prime example of the worst of america. From a non US person

just my two cents

Being a liberal doesn't make you a non-American, it just makes you a wrong American.

Are you sure it was Sarah that said that? I know a lot of folks on your side of the political spectrum are completely unable to tell the difference in what she says, with what Tina Fey comes off with. A useful way to keep them straight is that Tina Fey is an actress and comedian, while Sarah Palin made her bones exposing corruption in government, and by bringing down a sitting governor of her own party over it.

I wonder how many of our non-US participants, or how many of our domestic liberals for that matter, are familiar with that part of the Sarah Palin resume.

Darn. Not to hyjack the thread, but I really thought you were going to say this:

Tina Fey is an actress and a comedian, while Sarah Palin is a comedian and actress wannabe.

Oh well.

I don't know!

I'm not American, but I'm an Obama fan girl.. enough to make most people sick (please don't hold it against me!). I dislike the Republican party - their ideas are too conservative and some of their ideas are very unrealistic.

OWS - good idea in theory. I'm quite fond of a bit of social or political activism but unsure it achieved anything.

And you know damn well that was her pinnacle of anything remotely useful.
She has been a clusterfuck that almost happened..but it wasnt for lack of trying.

Occupy Wall Street....... Great motives, great principles, made an error with the sit ins, as it was too easy for opponents to denigrate them.

Santorum......... Religious nut who will make America lurch further to the right. He would put Church above state, based on his comments made in his campaign.

Fox News......... Biased beyond belief. News organisations should report the news and not organise street protests against the President. I cant recall this ever being done in the UK and cant say I remember it happening in Europe or the US.

Watch the clip from 4 minutes in, even if not all of it.

Occupy WhereverWall Street - Pretty much what Polite said, though as a lefty, I find their conduct over the sit ins less offensive than he does. They certainly cause less aggro and get more sympathy than domestic versions like Class War did during the '90s...

Santorum - I try not to think of Frothy Mix, to be honest. I suspect us decadent Eurotrash socialists agree with most of America on that one.

Fox News - I think it's nice that people too retarded to manage to read one of Ann Coulter's books have their own news network, though I would be happier if Fox stuck to making the cartoons and less conceptual comedies they're a lot better at. (Maybe a second season of Firefly as well, come to that...)

That's a shame, given the tons of ammunition that Palin herself offers to those who want to mock her...

Occupy ... as a symbol widely accepted overseas (from your point of view, meaning hereabouts) - if anything comes close to 18th c style absolute monarchy power nowadays it is no longer any royal palace but NYSE (and a few others) - and I can not see anything democratic in that

Santorum ... from what I heard about his political statements he is pretty close to Franco and Ceaucescu if not a few others ...
Fox "News" - a symptom of modern ways of mass manipulation

I think that's more a spin that a few Republican pundits (Breitbart?) have put on the eeevil liberal response to Barbie's daft comment about small towns being the real America than anything she came up with herself, or Fey came up with to mock her.

In europe the US is looked on as just slightly to the left of the Third Reich, and (maybe at a stretch) marginally better than Stalin's Russia! That may sound like an exaggeration, and of course it is generally but amongst a fair number it is fair to say they regard the US is the evil of all evils. This criticism seems to have been internalised in American culture at least to some extent. I believe this criticism of the US feeds off an old Eurocentric elitist animus mingled ironically enough with a portion of old style "Uncle Joe" socialism passed to the present. Many consider Americans to be very stupid but it was interesting that the OECD http://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-10-most-educated-countries-in-the-world.html most recently found the US to be the fourth most educated nation in the world today, and has the highest number of third-level educated students in the world (nearly 26%).

I dont know what the education level of the people has to do with anything,.. they are still powerless against the elite that control govt.. what is the difference between Libya uprising and the US uprising (OWS)? its that no one is gonna help or rescue the American people..

For me its about the corruption, at all levels of govt and big business (including banks).. for a highly developed country its disgusting.. and its a black ugly ooze that is trying to spread out to other countries.. the US should have kept their securitized mortgage crap to themselves and in their own country, but they were so greedy they needed to taint other countries with it..

Imo its because of the corruption that it doesnt matter one darn bit who is elected in the next election,.. they are all puppets bought and paid for and will do what they are told by their masters, not what the voters want.. The US may appear to be a democracy but it is anything but one.. The news media have become puppets also... OWS is impotent and imo was a blip on the radar that has pretty much disappeared..

In due course the economy will get better and people will forget about OWS, forget about the bankster bailouts, forget about the housing debacle, etc,.. the elite will continue to profit, manipulate and corrupt, unabated..

Yeah I suppose its slightly off-topic but I brought it up because many have an extremely negative view of the US, and this seems to influence their thinking on the country generally. BTW I think its a bit extreme to compare the US with Libya...

Both countries have had uprisings.. both countries are corrupt (just the US corruption is more sophisticated and mostly hidden).. thats all..
