Fightdirecto -> The latest Talking Point to excuse Rush "Chickenhawk"* Limbaugh (3/5/2012 11:34:48 AM)

Be prepared, if you haven't yet encountered it yet, for the latest "excuse" justifying Rush "Gutless Coward"* Limbaugh's latest verbal diarrhea:

"I was just doing what the Leftists do"

quote:

"I descended to the Left's level when I used those two words to describe Sandra Fluke," Limbaugh said.

* Chickenhawk (also chicken hawk and chicken-hawk) is a political epithet used in the United States to criticize a politician, bureaucrat, or commentator who strongly supports a war or other military action (i.e., such as the invasion of Iraq under President Bush), yet who actively avoided military service when of age.

Unlike Rush, I served with Company P, 75th Army Rangers in Quang Tri Province, Republic of South Vietnam 1970-1971. Rush "served" as a Pittsburg Radio DJ under the stage name "Jeff Christie".

Unlike Rush, I didn't use a pimple on my butt to get a draft deferment to avoid serving my country. I enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Unlike Rush, I have never told a veteran or a serving member of the U.S. Military that they were a "traitor" and that they were "phoney soldiers" because they did not share my political beliefs. Rush, on the other hand, called active service miltary members and military veterans "traitors" and "phoney soldiers" on his radio show and on his website for opposing President Bush's invasion of Iraq.

quote:

"I descended to [the left's] level when I used those two words to describe Sandra Fluke," Limbaugh said. "I've always tried to maintain a very high degree of integrity and independence on this program. Nevertheless, those two words were inappropriate. They were uncalled for. They distracted from the point that I was actually trying to make, and I again sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for using those two words to describe her. I do not think she is either of those two words. I did not think last week that she is either of those two words."

So what's the point he was actually trying to make?

quote:

He added: "It was way beneath me, and way beneath you. I was wrong. I genuinely apologize."

Limbaugh claimed he was not forced into issuing an apology to Fluke, despite calls from prominent conservatives—including House Speaker John Boehner and GOP candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum—to do so, as advertisers of his show fled in droves.

"The apology was sincere and heartfelt ... pure, simple, heartfelt," he said. "All the theories, all the experts are wrong."

Limbaugh's comments came a day after a seventh advertiser, ProFlowers.com, pulled its advertising from his radio show, following Quicken Loans, Sleep Train, Sleep Number, Citrix Systems Inc., Carbonite and LegalZoom. An eighth, AOL, announced on Monday that it would stop advertising, too.

AOL too - woo hoo!

If anyone thinks the advertiser pull outs have no relation to the apology, I have a bridge to sell you.

Just in case any one was confused, I have highlighted the two "inappropriate uncalled for" words Rush was referring to above.

Those words are of course 'integrity' and 'independence'. Who could disagree with him in this instance? [:D]

Okay, I'm sufficiently unimpressed.

When is he to be removed from Armed Forces Radio. Our forces still engaged in a war SHOULD NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES have to be subjected to a Tokyo Rose-like daily attack on their Commander In Chief paid for by our/their own tax dollars.

FD You served in a combat setting. How would you have felt about listening to one of your own countrymen dissecting the President and other high officials. I mean SURE there are things we and they need to deal with BACK HERE. But the psychological effect of discreditation of the government or country whom a soldier is serving is pretty widely documented at this point.

A mere pat on the ass is insufficient in my book.

Well if you`re not a complete bullshit artist.....you`ll show us some examples of "the left" saying such horrible things too......

There must be plenty of examples so it should be a no-brainer.

We`ll wait.....

When I was in Vietnam, 1970-1971, all the programming on Armed Forces Radio was music programming - no blow-hard commentators like Rush Limbaugh or Gordon Liddy or Alex Jones or Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity. The news was read by military personnel and, admittedly, was censored by "Tricky Dick" Nixon appointees at the Department Of Defense level. There was limited TV in certain areas, with entertainment shows like "Star Trek", "Gunsmoke", "Bonanza", "Hawaii Five-O" and "Mission Impossible" and an evening news show shot in a studio in Saigon with military announcers - but no "60 Minutes" or "Meet The Press". Even news magazines like Time and Newsweek were censored, particularly if there was a story in the issue about an anti-war protest. Magazines with stores about anti-war protests would arrive with those pages removed. I didn't hear about anti-war protests or Jane Fonda, etc., until I got back to the States.

(BTW: No one ever called me a "baby-killer" or spit on me when I returned from Vietnam.)

In 1972, I was in the Army in Germany finishing my enlistment, and the senior Air Force General in Europe tried to prevent the Armed Forces Radio from broadcasting the Watergate hearings, claiming if the military heard the hearings, we would become "disloyal" and we would all vote against "Tricky Dick" Nixon in the 1972 Presidential election. He was overruled by the Army General who was the overall NATO Commander.

From what I have been told, Right-Wing commentators were not aired over the Armed Forces Radio and Television until Operation Desert Storm (President "Daddy" Bush's war).

IIRC he wasn't on AFR when I was serving (85 to 91).

Well I can tell you for certain since my Dad was State Post Commander of the VFW for RI that if anyone ever showed up to do anything but hug and cheer and it probably would have been the worst mistake of there lives... Not for nothing else than the homecomings I attended as a little boy were always FULL of family, friends and neighbors. And the vfw always made sure SOME local bus company offered to truck em all up to Green Airport.
I wanted to go to those things even when I didn't know the soldiers coming home.

It had been basically mandatory in social studies to watch it during the school year.
Those were wild times... I remember being on the dock at the Treadway when Nixon took the walk to the Marine chopper.
That was a cup summer in Newport there was this guy there covering the cup races for rolling stone. He was up on the dock and with a cigarette in his teeth he goes "It couldn't have happened to a more deserving Satanist"
I didn't get the joke till YEARS later.

What I meant really was in general terms. I think maintaining a constant derogatory environment for troops in combat is super counter productive.
My dad one time said "a lot of Japanese died a little harder cause of Tokyo Rose, for what it did to some of the guys. She was one depressing bitch".
I just think it's something of a disservice to the troops.

That's a great picture BTW.

I wouldn't classify it as horrible, but here is an example of "Bush did it first"

http://www.collarchat.com/m_3975324/tm.htm post #18

"Geo. W Bush set an all time record for vacation time as a president. Obama will have to go some to even get close. So not surprisingly...truly now grasping at straws and just for more ridiculous partisan shrill."

post 31 is also funny as hell, but has nothing to do with the subject. Just the usual twisting in the wind.

Now did you ever find those links you claimed showing me defending anything rush said or where you just talking out of your ass again?

A matter of public record/fact

I am assuming you know the difference.

Don't you know that facts have a liberal bias - which is why Rightists frequently ignore facts?

tazzygirl -> RE: The latest Talking Point to excuse Rush "Chickenhawk"* Limbaugh (3/6/2012 7:56:46 AM)

Hell, a liberal is just as likely to be wrong about facts as a conservative. I take them as they come, one at a time.

Fellow -> RE: The latest Talking Point to excuse Rush "Chickenhawk"* Limbaugh (3/6/2012 8:14:41 AM)

I hate all this "gotcha game" the hypocrites play with Limbaugh. The whole thing is reduced to one word and the substance is effectively lost  in the process.
