WHY would a gay man want to have vaginal sex?

To procreate perhaps?

Can Dutch men gestate foetuses in their bottoms, MrB? I know you Dutch chaps are very forward-looking about such matters and that you have good surgeons out there.

Note to Mods:

Sorry, I'm aware that my last comment didn't address the OP's point in, perhaps, the strictest of ways. Won't happen again.

Not yet but I bet we can in time. But even if I was gay I would rather have a woman carry my child if she was willing.
Some things about nature I dont want to change.

Well I support that edit. I am what they call me, anti authority till it bleeds. So you got my view. On authority you will just lead me to war with you.

Can I just say I think it's wonderful how the churches pictured in this thread look like they're over a hundred years old, despite their being in the USA?

Once again, I take my hat off to you Americans - you've come *such* a long way in *such* a short time.

I'll see your St. Monica's and offer up: Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart

Okay, I'll call and raise you St. John the Divine.

Okay, purely for fun...I'm going to raise and call. Since we seem to be mostly on a "Catholic" round, here's my bid. It's impossible to show enough in any one picture, but you'll get the idea, and Google Images can show you thousands more. For the record, this is the Kölner Dom, officially Hohe Domkirche St. Peter und Maria, in English, the High Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Mary, took over 600 years to build, and amazingly stood (it was hit but not collapsed) while everything around it was bombed into rubble during WWII. It should be on your list of places to see at least once.

Interesting link, Tazzy. Thanks!

Yet it raises afresh, for me anyway, the question I've been pondering since last night: Why worry about Leviticus at all? Does it really matter in 2012 that the ancient Israelites disliked homosexuality? If so, why?

I will reiterate what I said in my first post. It can matter to a particular individual. But it should not be used politically, for all the reasons I discussed earlier. If you are trying to sort out if it should be meaningful to you, personally, only you can answer that for yourself.

Frankly, I see the bible as a mediocre work of fiction (or rather, works of fiction) which have some wonderful moral and societal truths and beliefs, while having no foundation in reality whatsoever. Kind of like "Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy", only with a moral to the parables.

Thats just it, I dont think they did. But, it doesnt matter in this day and age.

Lets be realistic.

Lets assume there is a god. Lets also assume he made man in his image. We can even assume the Bible is correct and god created every creature on earth.

Animals work on instinct.

quote:

A 1999 review by researcher Bruce Bagemihl shows that homosexual behavior has been observed in close to 1,500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well documented for 500 of them

If that god saw homosexuality as abhorrent, why is it an instinctual trait in the animal kingdom? I would think a god who did not like homosexual behavior never would have instilled that into the animals. There is the disconnect for me. Which leads me to believe the translation is the error and man made.
