Don't quote me on this but I am reasonably certain that by the time women reach the age to need/use Meicare Part D.. more than likely they have no further need of the pill.

Most prescription medication plans cover both birth control and viagra. However, as I have pointed out in the past, Medicare Part D prescription drug plans DO NOT COVER VIAGRA.

Its ironic that most of the taxes you mention were raised to cover the expense of defending the settlers. More so that almost everyone who shares your view has no qualms paying for your large standing army through taxes no less. Talk about double standards.

I do not understand how you arrive at this conclusion. Are you saying because the American colonists objected to taxation for troops they did not need, provided only so that King George could intimidate the French with such a large standing army at "our" expense that we should have qualms about taxation to support our standing army in such a dangerous world? I fail to see how that would be. Sorry.

Just fucking laughable. I seem to know more of your history than you do. Go take a look at the reasons for the seven years war, and see how the French, British and American colonists figure in this. Sure that wasnt the only reason, but it was one of the major ones to apply taxes. I am unsure if you know the following, another of the reasons was that the Colonists felt that their "rights as Englishmen" were being ignored by King George (And they were right) Mike is right, they didnt have representation but they also didnt figure the taxes were too high.

What on earth makes you think that you didnt need or want defending from the French and their Indian Allies prior to independence ? Sacre Blue !

Anyway, back on topic. I notice your refusual to take up the question of why its okay to pay for a large defence force to keep US citizens safe but not to pay for health. Guess which kills more of you, cancer or the Taliban ?

Mike, I get what you are saying but the main cause was the Stamp Act, a direct response to the debts incurred in the war with the French.

1)  Expecting people to pay for their OWN contraception for their OWN sex lives is not a "war on women" -- that's called PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.  Once again, Libs/Left are lying about this being a "health" issue of any kind.

If healthcare really were about personal responsibility then why does health insurance cover accidents due to carelessness, why are sexually transmitted diseases covered, why are many cancers (that are related to activities of choice, such as smoking) covered, why are all the health issues related to weight covered, etc.

If this were actually a debate about personal responsibility then a whole host of things would be on the table for discussion. But that's not really what this is about, is it.

Oral contraceptives are a prescription drug. It requires a doctor's visit - and paying for that doctor's visit - just to get a prescription. What about this do you not understand? This is a health issue. Oral contraceptives and their side effects MUST be monitored by a doctor. I don't know where you live, but where I live you can't just get your hands on prescription drugs. Where I live, that is ILLEGAL.

So maybe in your world people are getting oral contraceptives on their OWN, but it's highly unlikely. Seriously, when was the last time you walked into a pharmacy without a prescription and they just handed you prescription medication???? What planet are you on???? Because it's not the one I live on.

It would be difficult for a educated mind
not to think of the Third Reich when human
beings are referred to as vermin.
And I don't throw the Third Reich around
loosely. Or the word vermin.
Very much on topic.
You have a elected official comparing
women to cows and pigs. When people
in public office start using that sort of
language how can you not think of the
horrors of the past?
Women would be wise to take note of
language that demotes them to chattel
and strips them of their human rights.

There is no such right in the Constitution. Do you suggest there must be? Perhaps this really falls under the heading of making your bed and sleeping in it.

In other words, the whore deserved it.

Or, there are always repercussions for bad behaviour or bad decisions and it is not my lot in life to pay for her bad decision. This is called life. It is your duty to protect your own life through intelligent decisions and to avoid such a nasty happenstance through a better decision, perhaps one not to go to such a person for treatment that is elected, optional.

The Declaration of Independence preceeds the Constitution.

.......Certain inalienable Rights, Among these are LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.................. (enphasis mine in case folks cant find it)

I think LIFE being an inalienable right might just be something we should look at.

The notion of free health care is a curious one. Does anyone who lives in a country with a form of national health care not pay into that system via taxes or other methods? Is it truly free?

Good point which I am happy to take on. Although we use the term free in the UK, it isnt exactly free. The majority of us would have paid into the kitty at some stage, via income tax. The whole point of the NHS though is that is available to all and free at the point of access. THOSE WHO HAVENT paid anything in are still, and rightly so, included. There are no hidden extra costs unless you want to jump the queue and go private.

Currently we have a system going through much needed change, only time will tell if Cameron has got this right but we can all be proud that we have a system which helps those in society who cant afford it. Like much of our benefit system, those who need a helping hand, actually get it. I should also point out we spend less than the US as a whole on health.

In fact, the Boston tea party was over tax cuts being applied to the East India Company, rather than a libertarian tantrum over the existence of import duties...

Yes so people PAY for health insurance. Oral contraceptives must be prescribed by doctors. So, by your own admission, people aren't getting anything for FREE to have oral contraception covered. So what is your argument, exactly????? Then why not cover oral contraceptives????

It is you who don't understand even your own argument. You are complaining that women should have to cover their own costs for contraception, but you readily admit that people PAY for insurance. Yes, hello. That is what all of us have been saying all along. There is NO reason to carve out contraception.

So maybe you can try this again. What exactly is your rationale for carving out oral contraception? Because your own argument does NOT support your position.

And to consider pregnancy to NOT be a health risk. Again, what planet are you on???? The risks from pregnancy and childbirth to both children and women STILL exist in this world. Pregnancy and child birth are not 100% risk free. So again, your argument doesn't hold at all. Nice effort, but WRONG, nonetheless.

Lucylastic -> RE: Maddow takes a look at GOP war on women (3/12/2012 5:38:52 AM)

Great point FTP:) plus
Pregnancy most certainly is a health risk. Being responsible can stop the health risk. To be responsible, a woman needs contraception...and protection against STDS. FACT

98 % of women use contraception at some point , to stop the risk..the real risk of worse health issues. FACT

Half of all pregnancies are unplanned. FACT.
Expectation that women will not have sex is ridiculous. Prevention is needed. FACT

Plus Healthcare is not free anywhere. FACT
The whole thing is moot.

Well, you're a bit young to remember all the kerfuffle about Reagan handing the Republican party over to them, but surely you recall watching Pat Robertson electioneering for the chimp?
