Yes, thanks to so many stupid Lib-Rats, I've been able to sharpen that skill-set to a fine point. [:D]

Give me a break....your knowledge of the subject is purely first hand [:)]

Which requires a time and money expense...that doesn't really dispute my point.

The dispute is that regardless of time or expense, you still can't grow your own birth control pills and you can't get them without a doctor. You have choices with food.. you don't with birth control pills.

Which is part of why I'm not against insurance companies offering it as an option for those who want to pay the premiums for them. As said, in an ideal world, insurance companies would be allowed to offer plans with both contraceptive coverage and plans without, and consumers would be able to choose what plan suits them.

I would love to have a health insurance that covered only those things that I personally wished to pay for. My insurance covers pregnancy and birth and I have to pay for that even though I can't have any more children. My premiums don't go down just because I can't utilize all the parts of my policy and I don't have the option 'not' to pay for it or to have it excluded.

Unfortunately we don't (yet) have those sort of options that we can pick but hopefully we will some day. I'm with you on wanting them though.

Sounds like you are in agreement to allow insurance companies to cover who and what they please.

That's not remotely what I said.

Then clarification is in order.

quote:

Now if an insurance company *wants* to include contraceptive costs, adjusting the insurance premiums to cover it; that should be their right.

And yet, can we also do the same for someone with aids? cancer?

Shall we allow insurance companies to charge someone more because they are gay? black? northern europeans?

I am curious, at what point does the "insurance company" right's end?

hlen5 -> RE: Maddow takes a look at GOP war on women (3/14/2012 2:32:44 PM)

I have family in the insurance industry. The prevailing feeling in the industry is that covering contraceptives are much more cost effective than covering pregnancy.

You're not likely to drill for your own oil either, but I still wouldn't include oil changes as a mandatory thing covered by auto insurance.

The ability to make it yourself isn't sufficient reason to mandate insurance covering it IMO. Especially since there *are* choices that aren't that expensive for BCP, just as there is for other dietary suppliments etc. My gym membership is part of what I choose to invest in as a measure for self health, and that cost is comparable.

But I guess what I'm trying to figure out how to articulate better; ideally I think there should be a difference in the concept of "health insurance" vs. "health coverage plans". I think that someone offering health coverage plans that cover *everything* from dietary supplies, contraceptives, gym memberships, etc, could exist as well insurance plans that cover medical emergencies.

I just don't see contraceptives as qualifying as a type of medical emergency to warrant government stepping in and mandating all insurance being required to cover it.

Thats so true. We DO pay women to have sex. Instead of paying via birth control, we pay via pregnancy and delivery charges.

Pregnancy- and delivery-related complications accounted for $17.4 billion, or nearly 5 percent of total U.S. hospital costs in 2008.

And thats just hospital costs.

But, that is by far cheaper. [8|]

Just an aside... have any of you heard much about the new procedure for permanent birth control?

Hmmm... you dont need a Dr for a gym membership.. or for dietary supplements...

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: Maddow takes a look at GOP war on women (3/14/2012 2:46:00 PM)

Except more then 50% of women suffer from various diseases that can be easily fixed, maintained or regulated by a birth control pill..

Im one of the lucky women need to take a form of birth control ( That still wont be covered by preventative care because its not the pill....)

The Depo shot, currently im on that shot to live, I have to go through hell to get it every three months...

I am one of the 50% of women who would benefit by it being covered..

Birth control pills arent just for the prevention of birth, the hormones within the pill do a lot to regulate the reproductive system, by reducing pain (Think nails through your testicles) , the length of ones period, the amount of blood that is lost.. and so forth and so on..

With out it id be dead from blood loss via my uterus... Every time I dont get my shot i start to bleed, I can loose a pint of blood in 2 days, via my cunt...

But Because birth control is only for sluts... It hasnt been covered most of my life (Ive had this issue since i was 14) And ive had to pay out of pocket. Mind you.. I wasnt sexually active at 14... I havent been sexually active in nearly 3 years...

I dont use it to prevent birth...

But only sluts use birth control...

Is the name of the drug Lysistrata??

tazzygirl -> RE: Maddow takes a look at GOP war on women (3/14/2012 2:55:15 PM)

No hun, its not a drug, its a procedure...

http://www.essure.com/what-is-essure/overview

I had not heard of this until recently.

Its permanent. Im curious as to how insurance companies are viewing the coverage for this.

hlen5 -> RE: Maddow takes a look at GOP war on women (3/14/2012 2:57:37 PM)

tazzy,

Very cool!

(The drug thing was tongue-in-cheek!)

And regular doctor's visits are recommended anyways, which insurance typically covers. So that's not an issue.

tazzygirl -> RE: Maddow takes a look at GOP war on women (3/14/2012 3:10:40 PM)

Regular dr visits yes... not GYN visits.

Pap smear recommendations are every 3 to 5 years.

lololol

Lysistrata persuades the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace - a strategy, however, that inflames the battle between the sexes. The play is notable for being an early expose of sexual relations in a male-dominated society.

Viagra... used for ED.. did anyone else know it has other uses?

Viagra is now being used to treat not only erectile dysfunction (ED) but also pulmonary hypertension

Pulmonary hypertension
Viagra is now marketed under the name Revatio for this uncommon but serious disorder of high pressure in the blood vessels leading to the lungs.

Mountain sickness
Viagra can reduce pulmonary artery pressure at high altitude and improve the ability to exercise in low oxygen conditions.

Raynaud’s phenomenon
In affected individuals, exposure to the cold triggers spasm of the small arteries that supply blood to the fingers, toes, or both, which become pale, cold, and painful. Both Viagra and Levitra have been helpful in clinical trials.

Heart disease
Studies suggest Viagra might help patients with congestive heart failure or diastolic dysfunction.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/07/070727182359.htm

As far as I can tell... Birth Control is not given another name for other uses. For example, after reading above, Viagra is renamed when given for pulmonary hypertension?

Does anyone know if the same occurs with birth control pills that are given for endometriosis? As far as I can tell, the answer is no. I do have to wonder why. Actually, no I dont. Its obvious why.

Do try to keep your eye on the ball, will you?!! You can post the same nonsense a hundred times, and it STILL has ZERO... ZILCH... NADA... to do with anyone DESERVING to get their birth control for FREE.  Got that?!!  I don't give a shit what O'FuckupCare states, birth control, for the PURE PURPOSE of "birth control" isn't a "health issue", and the financial burden shouldn't be placed on others -- not when people with ACTUAL health issues still have to fork-up a co-pay for THEIR meds.  Clear enough for you, or do you need pictures?!! [8|]

When you concede that:

1. Health Resources and Services Administration has deemed birth control preventative care
2. There is to be no copay for preventative care services
3. No copay /= free due to the payment of insurance premiums

I'll stop reposting ad nauseum.

Now if you wish to debate the merits of of the ACA rather than going on about "stupidity and entitlement-thinking of the Lib-Rats" ...
