Well just thanks and flowers to you, Lucy.

You just -had- to put Sister Mary Elephant and Basketball Jones back into my head, didn't you? You ain't called a cruel Domme-like-lady-person for nothing.

But the sentiment appreciated, any regards.

Edwyn
I'm a southerner born and bred.
I live in the South and I love the South.
Notice I capitalize the s [;)]
I'm also a southerner who has lived in the
Northeast. Got me some good Yankee
educatin'.
I'm well aware everyone in the north is not
a liberal or without bias.
I'm well aware that everyone in the south
isn't conservative or bigoted.
But Jesus and hatred/dislike of Obama
does seem to be a common theme on
a lot of bumperstickers I see locally and
in the extended area which is in the biblebelt.
I don't say that number parental boasting
bumperstickers or caution I break for unicorns
bumperstickers or any number of bad pun
bumperstickers.
I'm sure if I had the Jesus, gay and Obama
bumperstickers any number of good
conservatives would tsk tsk me.
So, I'll just stick with It's only kinky the
first time and I break for dragons.
My tongue was in my cheeky but I don't
doubt I would get some thumbs up.
And just one would be depressing.

Winterapple,I'm a "Damm Yankee",now the way that was explained to me is thus "yankee's "come to visit the South....."Damm Yankee's" are those Northerners that come down here(North Carolina) and stay [:)]

Edwynn -> RE: The Liberal Platform (3/10/2012 6:17:20 PM)

Not exactly, Mr. Silver (the misspelling is intentional and intended as compliment).

Getting out of the way that 'Damn Yankee' has been absent my presence for over two decades to this point, there is yet a distinction and difference, though not as you claim.

All three of my sisters are now married to males born northward of what is still referred to by some that still insist on this term, the Mason-Dixon line.

One pair live in Illinois, and her (she GA born) husband has made great efforts to get a job in Tennessee, but failing that, he is hell bent on moving the family to either there or NC at retirement.

Another sister's husband is from Connecticut, has lived in Charlotte for 30+ years, has no inclination to move northwards, and enjoys himself and the people in the area, by his account, much more than those of his birthland.

A third sister is married to this guy from Pennsylvania, and he takes great enjoyment in deriding everything and near every person he comes in contact with. When we had a get-together at my parents' house, this asswipe actually opened the refrigerator and upon inspection announced loudly, "what? no Dukes mayonnaise? Ha ha ha!" Not I or anyone else at the time were aware that this was some mark of 'Southernism," but he was apparently quite well aware of it. And even in absence of such definitive mayonnaise, he nevertheless felt it incumbent upon himself to bray to the entire family his sentiments on his notion of what constituted a Southern mindset or lifestyle, all real evidence directly in his face to the contrary. And this in the presence of the other 'Yankee' husbands, who could only roll their eyes and wonder where this asshole came from. This is not unlike another poster to this site that uses the term 'teabillys' for the teabaggers and further claims that the teabaggers are a bunch of retired racists, all in reference to his never-to-be-lost notion of the region, when fact of the matter is that they originated in Seattle, and we never saw it in GA until almost two years later. There's the 'damn yankee' if you need it, Mike.

Quit making excuses, Mike, you guys either learn to behave or you will be called out for what you are. Simple as that. Those that miss out on it and dislike being called out on their lack of simple manners resort to whatever 80 yr. old notion they have in their head of the South. The better part of the population that make their way to the South understand this, and no argument from me that some worst examples of humanity arise from this region. We try our best to kick them elsewhere but unfortunately some of them find their way to the state capitol building or even the US Congress.

Life sucks here sometimes. The difference between us is that some recognize the issues at home and then others are blind to the issues at home. With some notable exceptions, my experience with those of upper Eastern origin is that a great many of them need better glasses.

slvemike4u -> RE: The Liberal Platform (3/10/2012 6:58:21 PM)

Damm Edwynn, and here I was just kidding with Winterapple.
Seems I touched a nerve there ,eh?
I have no idea what problems you have with your brother-in-law,I don't know him,nor do I really know you.
What I do know is that I love it down here,I love Southern woman,I love the climate and I love the pace...that whole "damm yankee" thing was said to me with the utmost kindness,as a matter of fact it was said while the two of us had our naked bodies entwined together, sweaty and out of breath....perhaps that is a case of too much information,on the other hand it seems you were operating previously with too little information.
You took a little information and ran with it....not such a good example of southern manners eh?

Edwynn -> RE: The Liberal Platform (3/10/2012 7:16:25 PM)

That could well be the case, Mike, considering that we all have more information than we know what to do with.

Yet still, was I impolite in my previous post?

Winterapple -> RE: The Liberal Platform (3/10/2012 8:00:36 PM)

I notice some northern transplants put bumperstickers that say American by birth
Southern by grace of God on their newly
acquired pick ups.[8D]
And the difference in a generic Yankee and
a Damn Yankee is it's the damn ones are
the ones you love, have special affection
for and/or hot wild monkey sex with.[;)]
When I went north I was looking forward
to long snowy winters. And for a couple
weeks was thrilled. But after about a month
it started to seem like the Shining and I
was going snow blind. I'd exchange a
southern summer for a New England one
happily.
I also love northern men and was excited
at the prospect of having one for a boyfriend.
And I had some great ones. The first was
from the Bronx. People use to ask us if we
could understand anything the other one
said. We could.

That's a rhetorical question isn't it?
You were downright rude .

Okie dokie Ma'am...now just what was that old topic anyway [8|]

E.T.A.....oh yeah, the liberal platform,I myself prefer a nice solid level platform from which to conduct my business.Taking the time to make sure it is level and secure before beginning can save you many a heartbreak later, many is the liberal who, having rushed to cobble his platform together ,all will nilly and such......only to later, after having fallen off of the flimsily constructed platform have cause to regret his haste.
Remember folks....solid platforms is the way to go [:)]

My experience in Illinois during the record breaking winter for snow and low temp. will always be remembered. Great experience to be in the dead still silence in the 20 below woods. In the South there is always some bug or bird making noise no matter how cold, even in the mountains.

My youngest two siblings speak native Midwestern, so I always have a translator available if needed.

pyroaquatic -> RE: The Liberal Platform (3/11/2012 3:44:40 AM)

I visited a liberal platform once; lube was easier to get than at the conservative one.

MrBukani -> RE: The Liberal Platform (3/11/2012 4:40:25 AM)

Im a conservative liberal meaning dont fuck with the liberties me and my family fought for about a couple thousand years.[:D]

thanks for the entertaining post

I am not sure which was better

the op or the reactions to it complete with illustrations of their frustration in post #2

Peace and comfort,

Only one deliberate mistake? When you re write and edit such a announcment, its all one big mistake,so with so much to choose from, who cares.?
You dont appear to be able to inflame as much as you thought

masternoname -> RE: The Liberal Platform (3/11/2012 6:15:49 AM)

I would have to agree with the lady on this one.

the liberals on cm seem much better at name calling and painting the other side as evil

Now I am not sure that is something I would brag about.......
