The three prominent ladies have as much right to exercise their free speech as anyone else. That includes writing the FCC. Nevertheless, I would say the chances of the FCC getting involved in this brouhaha are slim to none. In any case, there is no government censorship involved at the moment, right? And just because Jane Fonda writes a letter, that doesn't mean there is going to be, right? So, what the hell are you talking about? I love the way you guys keep trotting out the example of Schultz and Maher as to why Rush should be excused for his crassness. I mean, if that is all you've got, that is all you've got, but you are surely not suggesting those two are in any way as influential as Rush. As for Schultz, I never heard of him until last week. Not once. Ever. I notice you forgot to mention that he actually apologized to his "victim", sincerely and at great length. In fact, his apology lasted much longer than his inappropriate remark. So, why is Rush's apology sufficient, but not Schultz's? In addition, Laura Inghraham is a public figure, unlike Ms. Fluke. This makes a difference in such things as defamation laws. Why is that so hard to understand and why doesn't that matter? As for Maher, I would threaten to cancel my subscription to HBO, but it would be kind of an empty threat. You, however, can start a petition or write a letter to the FCC or anything you want to do, if his remarks offended you so much. Instead, you are either arguing that those who are complaining about Rush should also complain about Maher, or that since Maher did it, it is OK for Rush to do it. I disagree with either of those premises. Maybe the question you should be asking instead is why people have put up with Rush as long as they have, and consider him to be the source of anything other than hateful bile. This is the man who compared Chelsea Clinton (not a woman, but a child) to the White House dog. Who accused Michael J Fox of faking his symptoms. Who refers to women he disagrees with as feminazis. Who had this to say about the dying Elizabeth Edwards: It just seems to me that Edwards might be attracted to a woman whose mouth did something other than talk…my theory that I just explained to you about why — you know, what could have John Edwards‘ motivations been to have the affair with Rielle Hunter, given his wife is smarter than he is and probably nagging him a lot about doing this, and he found somebody that did something with her mouth other than talk. Who, inexplicably, was outraged about Jimmy Kimmel implying Michele Bachmann was a bitch: Rush Limbaugh dissed Hillary Clinton on his Wednesday show, associating her with the song "Lyin' A*s B*tch" that played when Michele Bachmann appeared on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" earlier in the week. Limbaugh praised Bachmann's performance at the GOP debate on Tuesday night. Then, he hammered Jimmy Fallon's show -- which he called a "very low-rated NBC late late late night show" -- for welcoming Bachmann onto the set with the song.He was outraged on Bachmann's behalf, and called the song "disrespectful" to "the only woman candidate for president."Then, he said, "To put this in perspective, Hilary wasn't even on the show and they have this song 'Lyin' A*s B*tch.'" He alleged that the media would have been outraged if the same thing had happened to Hilary Clinton on Fox News, but ignored Bachmann's experience. I would keep going on about the bullshit Rush has said and done over the years, but the hypocrisy by now should be obvious. And it isn't on the part of the left. The real question is why people haven't been screaming for that fat junkie asshole to be off the air for years now. Just as a final example of hypocrisy, can you imagine what Rush would have to say if Chelsea Clinton had gotten pregnant while her dad was president? It would have been ugly. And yet,he never mentioned Sarah Palin's knocked up teenage daughter during the last election. He certainly didn't call her a slut for being a teenager obviously having sex. So isn't it a double standard to accuse a woman of being a slut simply because she speaks out in favor of birth control? I am pretty sure teenage pregnancy is far sluttier than testifying before congress. I do have to agree with you on one thing. Hypocrisy does run deep, just not on the side you claim it does. quote:
ORIGINAL: DaddySatyr quote:
I like the part where three prominent PPL "ladies" are now exerting special pressure on the FCC to get Limbaugh removed from the airwaves. Now, we have a ballgame. This is where government censorship starts to rear its ugly head. The unholy trinity is demanding that the FCC flex their muscle because they don't like what someone with a differing opinion says. Gov. Palin is a "dumb twat" and a "cunt" and Maher refuses to apologize. Laura Ingraham is a "right wing slut" and a "talk slut" and Schultz got suspended (?) per his boss for three days? But, Rush made the mistake of having a different opinion than the PPLs and calling a young lady (who deserved it as little as the other two conservative ladies) the same word Schultz used and he deserves to get thrown off the air. The hypocrisy runs extremely deep on the left side of the discussion.
