Have another what?

I agreed with some of what you said, and disagreed with alot more some of what you've said.

I didn't reverse your position, only you could do that.

I'm not on talk anything. Just me, that's all.

Forbes

I love this quote from the article.

Liberals and Democrats either need to make their case better than Limbaugh does, or, just as effectively, sit back and watch as his hate machine continues to eat its own tail. Eventually, though, you run out of tail. And that’s when the fun really starts.

Rush claims 20-30 million. What would that make him?

I was curious about that number that I kept seeing so I did some research on the subject. The stations which carry Limbaughs program have the 'abililty' in total to reach 15-20 million listeners via their markets* (Limbaughs show - according to his own website - was carried in 614 markets out of approx 14,000 or so available markets - (per the FCC there are about 2500 national markets, 1200 or so HD markets and the rest are comprised of local markets). The ability to reach 15-20 million listeners does not equate to actual listeners of either the stations themselves or Limbaughs show in particular.

Cume (cumulative audience) ratings are the total number of available listeners divided by the total number of unique actual listeners (or viewers in the case of television). This information does not include any Internet broadcasting or the listeners or viewers who utiliize the internet for the listening/viewing pleasure of a given show.

Over the last three months, the average Cume rating for the number one watched broadcast television shows was around 10.8. The number one rated cable shows average right around 3.9 for Cume.

For Rush to have 15-20 million viewers his Cume rating would have to be 100. That would mean that no one else listened to any show other than his during his time slot at any given quarter hour. (Ratings are set up in 15 min increments for radio broadcasting.. 00:15, 00:30, 00:45 and on the hour) In other words, every single person in every single market would have to listen to Rush at sometime during his broadcasting slot.

That's as good as it gets for Limbaugh. To state that he 'has' 15-20 million listeners is not a proven fact.. but, it's mathmatically possible.

For contrast: The 2012 SuperBowl had a Cume average rating of 40.5 for males 18-49, their key demographic.

Sourced:

FCC
NFL
Arbitron
Nielson

*PPM = Portable People Meter used by Arbitron to help determine broadcast area and available market share but it does not distinguish between background and active listening.

"PPM ratings are based on audience estimates and are the opinion of Arbitron and should not be relied on for precise accuracy or precise representativeness of a demographic or radio market."

I like the part where three prominent PPL "ladies" are now exerting special pressure on the FCC to get Limbaugh removed from the airwaves. Now, we have a ballgame.

This is where government censorship starts to rear its ugly head.

The unholy trinity is demanding that the FCC flex their muscle because they don't like what someone with a differing opinion says.

Gov. Palin is a "dumb twat" and a "cunt" and Maher refuses to apologize.

Laura Ingraham is a "right wing slut" and a "talk slut" and Schultz got suspended (?) per his boss for three days?

But, Rush made the mistake of having a different opinion than the PPLs and calling a young lady (who deserved it as little as the other two conservative ladies) the same word Schultz used and he deserves to get thrown off the air.

The hypocrisy runs extremely deep on the left side of the discussion.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I would rather Maher does not apologize if he doesn't mean it. To me, at least he has the courage of his convictions. Rush did apologize.. did he mean it? Maybe and if so, he should have apologized. If he apologized and wasn't sincere, then he does not have the courage of his convictions. Rush claims he is truly sorry for what he said.. Maher is not. Seems pretty simple.

Didn't Maher lose his old tv show, Politically Incorrect for remarks he made after 9/11? He apologized for his remarks as I recall but his show still got cancelled and according to Comedy Central it was due to declining ratings.

Pull only works so long as you are bringing in $. I doubt anyone in charge really cares about Limbaugh other than what sort of revenue he brings in. If the $ stops flowing, then Rush will stop blowing. The only thing that really matters in radio and television is color.. and that color is green.

I think they went way overboard complaining to the FCC because I don't know of any FCC rules he broke.

I do, however, find it quite interesting that when the petition drives started and people contacted sponsors telling them of their disapproval, the sponsors pulled out.

What was the reply from the dittoheads? Absolute outrage. How could those liberals and lefties DO such a thing.

Let's consider it though. When a group of consumers contacts a business to express dislike of their business model, the business has numerous choices but the main two are:

1. Change to conform to what the consumers want.

2. Don't change and risk losing their business.

Know what this is called? CAPITALISM.

Yupper, Rush is losing sponsors and presumably being hurt by good ole Right Wing Capitalism.
What is the reaction? Do he and his supporters react like He-Man Republicans? Fuck no. They start whining and bleating like a buncha tofu eating, birkenstock wearing, non bathing, occupist lefties (at least that's what he would have you believe those on the left are like).
This is Rush's MO. Any time he runs into trouble, he starts doing exactly what he accuses the left of doing.
When he got caught with a sackfull of opioids to feed his white-collar addiction, the first thing he did was whine about "the vast left-wing conspiracy out to get me" (Right out of the Hillary Clinton playbook). Guess who came to his rescue?
The ACLU came to ole rushbo's rescue. Yup folks, that ACLU. The one he vilifies so strenuously on his show was so impressed (or fooled) by the 'liberal act' that they helped keep his cigar smokin butt out of jail.

The left needs Rush and his ilk in order to maintain focus. Without Rush, Beck, Coulter et al, there is nothing to rally the troops against. This may be one reason the cons are in such disarray. There is no "Big Enemy" to rally the troops against. Jeremiah Wright? Gimme a fucking break. How is he going to replace the old Soviet Union?
This MAY just be the reason for the Republican party's so-called 'war on women'. It gives a rallying point. The problem is that they are at war with nearly half their own voters.
Like the above quote. The hate machine has begun eating its tail. When it runs out of tail, the fun's gonna start and it'll be a helluva show.

The three prominent ladies have as much right to exercise their free speech as anyone else.  That includes writing the FCC. Nevertheless, I would say the chances of the FCC getting involved in this brouhaha are slim to none.  In any case, there is no government censorship involved at the moment, right?  And just because Jane Fonda writes a letter, that doesn't mean there is going to be, right?  So, what the hell are you talking about?

I love the way you guys keep trotting out the example of Schultz and Maher as to why Rush should be excused for his crassness.  I mean, if that is all you've got, that is all you've got, but you are surely not suggesting those two are in any way as influential as Rush.

As for Schultz, I never heard of him until last week. Not once.  Ever.  I notice you forgot to mention that he actually apologized to his "victim", sincerely and at great length.  In fact, his apology lasted much longer than his inappropriate remark.  So, why is Rush's apology sufficient, but not Schultz's?  In addition, Laura Inghraham is a public figure, unlike Ms. Fluke.  This makes a difference in such things as defamation laws.  Why is that so hard to understand and why doesn't that matter?

As for Maher, I would threaten to cancel my subscription to HBO, but it would be kind of an empty threat.  You, however, can start a petition or write a letter to the FCC or anything you want to do, if his remarks offended you so much.  Instead, you are either arguing that those who are complaining about Rush should also complain about Maher, or that since Maher did it, it is OK for Rush to do it.  I disagree with either of those premises.

Maybe the question you should be asking instead is why people have put up with Rush as long as they have, and consider him to be the source of anything other than hateful bile.  This is the man who compared Chelsea Clinton (not a woman, but a child) to the White House dog.  Who accused Michael J Fox of faking his symptoms.   Who refers to women he disagrees with as feminazis.  Who had this to say about the dying Elizabeth Edwards:

It just seems to me that Edwards might be attracted to a woman whose mouth did something other than talk…my theory that I just explained to you about why — you know, what could have John Edwards‘ motivations been to have the affair with Rielle Hunter, given his wife is smarter than he is and probably nagging him a lot about doing this, and he found somebody that did something with her mouth other than talk.

Who, inexplicably, was outraged about Jimmy Kimmel implying Michele Bachmann was a bitch:

Rush Limbaugh dissed Hillary Clinton on his Wednesday show, associating her with the song "Lyin' A*s B*tch" that played when Michele Bachmann appeared on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" earlier in the week. Limbaugh praised Bachmann's performance at the GOP debate on Tuesday night. Then, he hammered Jimmy Fallon's show -- which he called a "very low-rated NBC late late late night show" -- for welcoming Bachmann onto the set with the song.He was outraged on Bachmann's behalf, and called the song "disrespectful" to "the only woman candidate for president."Then, he said, "To put this in perspective, Hilary wasn't even on the show and they have this song 'Lyin' A*s B*tch.'" He alleged that the media would have been outraged if the same thing had happened to Hilary Clinton on Fox News, but ignored Bachmann's experience.

I would keep going on about the bullshit Rush has said and done over the years, but the hypocrisy by now should be obvious.  And it isn't on the part of the left.  The real question is why people haven't been screaming for that fat junkie asshole to be off the air for years now.

Just as a final example of hypocrisy, can you imagine what Rush would have to say if Chelsea Clinton had gotten pregnant while her dad was president?  It would have been ugly.  And yet,he never mentioned Sarah Palin's knocked up teenage daughter during the last election.  He certainly didn't call her a slut for being a teenager obviously having sex. So isn't it a double standard to accuse a woman of being a slut simply because she speaks out in favor of birth control?  I am pretty sure teenage pregnancy is far sluttier than testifying before congress.

I do have to agree with you on one thing.  Hypocrisy does run deep, just not on the side you claim it does.

Personally, I like seeing the machinery he has been SUCH a proponent of grind him up like a combine harvester.
I think THAT route is ELEGANT.

This has been one of the primary functions of the FCC for quite some time.

In fact, it's the conservative voices that got things like "slut" and offensive speech policed in the first place.

This is fun!

Apparently a radio station in St. Louis decided to poll it's listeners with the simple question:

"Should KMOX cancel Rush Limbaughs radio show?"

As of right now, results are:

Yes, he has lost his credibility
33%

No, there's a need for his conservative commentary
67%

No wonder all the libs are still foaming at the mouth. It still looks like their impotent narrative is not nearly as fertile as they would like to believe.'

Yeah, probably not foaming at the mouth, and the only thing St Louis ever did was produce Vincent Price.
