ORIGINAL: Fightdirecto But if you try to tell them, they react like an atheist would if they were presented concrete proof there is a God They change their minds? No - they would claim that the evidence is somehow tainted - because to change their minds would be admitting they were wrong, and they have invested so much of their life convincing themselves they are right. If somehow God materialized in front of an atheist and shook hands with him - the atheist would still claim it was some form of a magic trick and not real. Atheists, in most cases, aren't much different than theists - they believe what they believe (or, if you prefer, they don't believe what they don't believe) and they have invested so much of their self-image into their belief/non-belief that they will hold on to their belief/non-belief as long as they can. I've got no idea which kind of atheists you're talking about, the skeptics and methodological naturalists that I'm familiar with change their opinions as new evidence becomes available, that's kind of the whole point of those positions. I think atheists tend to get a bad rap because they generally have taken the time to study the arguments out there so when they're presented for the hundredth time with a faulty proof that was refuted 200 years ago they aren't swayed by it. Sure the guy presenting that turd sandwich of a proof can end up thinking that the atheist is pigheadedly closing his mind to reality but keep in mind that's the same sort of conclusion anti-vaxers would tend to reach if they were talking to oh say you.
