Swaggerseven -> Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/19/2012 9:36:21 PM)

Seriously! And they complain why nobody takes their time to read it. Just keep it simple and to the point.

Why do people put topics into General BDSM discussion that have zero to do with BDSM discussion?

The world may never know.

I would guess it has something to do with them wanting to find someone compatible- and the more they put out there, the easier it is for someone reading it to know if they will mesh or not.

It is THEIR profile.  They do not need to follow YOUR rules for THEIR profile.  They can do whatever they like as long as it is not against TOS.  If you don't like long profiles, don't read them.  That is the simplest way to handle it and the most adult way.

Why would you expect anyone to consider you the law around here?   You can't even follow forum guidelines.

While it may take up pages of journal space, it is their page. Just as you can post what you want, so can they. Just move on.

myotherself -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/19/2012 11:44:04 PM)

...because some of us are not just about the kink.

We want someone who matches us on many levels, and that takes words.

Also, having a longer profile weeds out those who don't have the attention span or ability to read lots of words. Think of it like throwing chlorine into the shallow end of our personal gene pool.

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/19/2012 11:59:59 PM)

Because we know it specifically bothers you so we go out of our way to be an annoyance

Unloved wanna-be novelists seeking attention? :)

SexyThoughts -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/20/2012 12:20:06 AM)

Because every line in a profile represents a crappy introductory email asking or telling them something that really isn't their thing?

You can tell someones exposure to the wrong people, by the number of clarifications in their profile.

"Yes my profile says I like markets, nudity and also outdoor play. But no you can't suspend me naked from a streetlight in the market in the middle of the shopping day"

Suggestions for combining Anal and Fireplay uses simpler shorter words and more exclamation marks :)

DesFIP -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/20/2012 4:43:27 AM)

It's simple op, they don't want guys who won't take a few minutes to read a long profile to write them, so they do this to weed out the undesirables.

Oh there is SUCH a short-bus joke here.

DarkSteven -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/20/2012 5:13:32 AM)

Because the price of storage space on servers has reduced sharply.

Or perhaps they were making a joke?

People write long because they don't know how to say what they want to say in less words.

We all have a desire to be understood, to be known, to be heard.

Some people express that desire here.

They ran out of computer paper

I disagree. The majority of profiles say little beyond gender and kink orientation, leaving the poster indistinguishable from the millions of other people with the same gender and kink orientation--and thus giving no reason whatsoever to be interested in that person.

Of course, that presumes you want to get to know people.

Short profile = "I'm not seriously looking."

thanks a freakin' heap there, Irish...

<---scampers off for paper towels

erieangel -> RE: Why do people type up novels on their profile? (3/20/2012 5:26:21 AM)

Because they can't stand reading profiles that center on the kink and assume that anybody with whom they might be interested would want to know something more about them than just the kink...

It is just a thought.

To weed out people like you who are too lazy to read.
