Your answer, though, is why I prefer the word "liar" to "fake". I have no idea what a "true master" is. But I do know that "I'm not married" is a lie if the person really is married. I know that "I've been a master all my life" may or may not be a lie depending on how they meant it. For instance, there are lots of unowned slaves who still assert they are a slave and so might well say "I've been a slave all my life". What they mean by that is "... in their hearts."

This question would've been a lot simpler to answer if the OP had asked, "How can I tell if someone is lying over the internet?"

The short answer... "generally you can't"

I think the best info depends on you. If you feel your relationship is real (according to what you feel real is) and going how the two of you are wanting it to go, then live your life and love it. Don't let others dictate what they feel BDSM should be. But ProlificNeeds is right, even in a vanilla relationship, one knows when it's not right. Have fun and explore!!

This ^^^^^ and nothing but this. Everything else people are saying are what it means to THEM, which may or may not have anything to do with you.

The only cautionary statement I have (and others have made as well) is that it is always wise to get to know someone for a while before becoming "owned." This would also stand true in a vanilla relationship. Don't commit yourself to someone you haven't taken the time to get to know.

The only one who can authenticate a master is the person who is freely inspired to
give him that authority over themselves. Otherwise, you're only submitting to a label.

It's never going to be as easy as "He says he is a master and I am a submissive,
therefore I shall do everything he tells me to do because that's what submissives do."
Look to find a man that you are comfortable with in areas outside of the kink.
If it's meant to be, the rest will fall into place.

Well, as it was mentioned please take your time. Things don't have to go as fast as the Dominant wants, you have input into how fast you want them to go too. In fact, until you accept someone as your Dominant you are equals. See if someone makes you feel comfortable and is what you are looking for. The best thing you can do is take all of the BDSM out of the equation and see if it's something that you enjoy and think is good.

Seriously though kinky dating isn't really any different from the normal kind. Figure out what you're looking for and use your common sense.

You probably want to do some research on the stuff you think you're into and take things a little slow to start off but mostly have fun and don't stop using your common sense.
