ROFL... RedMagic a troll...

Give it a rest will you? You can disagree with one another, I've even disagreed with him from time to time... but I doubt many here would agree with your troll assessment. If I know Red... he is managing some great things he actually does in life besides talk about it all.

I didn't disagree with Red because in some cases he is correct. In some cases you are too. And yeah, so, I'm a nerd...your point? I never said I was talking to a mainstream person. You said you weren't the average person, 20 years of IT, I took you at your word. As for what I do with it...I'd tell you but , it really isn't any of your concern is it? I mean really no one really wants to know what I do with my computers do they? Or what anyone else does with theirs for that matter? You started this thread to give advice. Which was nice of you. But as it often happens on the net people have different opinions and they sometimes share them. And if, by chance, I ticked you off by making the momme domme joke.....laugh it was just a joke and the slower you laugh the faster you die.

MissImmortalPain - no, u didn't tick me off, far from it. why is it okay for you to joke around with me, but not the other way around? it's all good.

and Lockit and angelikaJ:

i think you're ignoring that the guy said i was giving false information, and i wasn't. and then he ranted about knowing some of you guys (which seems to be true), and i'm leading you down a bad path, and/or have ill intent, and/or don't know what i'm talking about. and it wasn't even for the things i actually said (like no-script is useful, and it's absurd to flatly state there's no place for anti-virus) and not for things i never touched on (like whether his suggested tool was good or not).

so when someone goes off on things i didn't say and such, it sounds kinda trollish. u obviously have the benefit of knowing and trusting him.

EDIT PS: i forgot, his only reply focused on one stupid little irrelevant thing i said, and totally ignored each instance of him doing what i noted above. u may not think he's a troll, but that was troll behavior. raise a bullshit point then move on to the next one without a word when it's debunked. then disappear from the thread.

Because you weren't joking, or it wasn't clear. In the other thread when you said something jokingly I joked back at you.

By the way I am hoping you will reread this and realize Red did not say that antis have no place. "most security professionals no longer run antivirus programs at all on their systems, unless there is a corporate policy saying they have to" He did not say there is no place for them. He just said that unless it is part of policy that many no longer use them.

I believe we are all getting a bit to touchy about our use of words here.

Hi angelikaJ,

Yeah, that's exactly the point, thank you. Security professionals don't need antivirus on their own systems -- and in fact it can get in the way -- because their surfing behavior is such that the only dangers they encounter are ones that are not viruses. But a device in the hands of someone who isn't security trained can still benefit from an antivirus program, AVAST, WSE, etc.

Full disclosure: I have a paid subscription to an antivirus program, and other layers of security. But that's because I go to bad places on purpose because I want to see what happens when I'm there.

i'm not even sure why you got angry and touchy with me and thought i was ticked off at you (and all the other things u said that i didn't think or say). i just joked around about you being a nerd, which u said u are, and i am as well.

i.e., you left out the part about him ranting that he was "disturbed" that i was "providing incorrect security advice" to his real life friends.

and you're now leaving out the context of me starting a thread to be helpful, and him essentially shitting on what i was suggesting, then posting something that compared my suggestion and noted it that it was useful. and rather than him being adult to just admit that, he raised the ante by ignoring that he was wrong in shitting on the tool, and then making it personal, blah blah blah.

i.e., no, i disagree, he went beyond use of words, he decided to make personal attacks. and i'm sure how you can see you saying you didn't disagree can be taken the wrong way. and despite that, it's you riding my ass for something i'm not even sure of.

then why on earth wouldn't you be adult enough to simply say that, rather than saying you're "disturbed" that i was "providing incorrect security advice" to you real life friends, when in fact, you agreed with what i was saying.

ps - Angelika said she uses anti, and you advocated we should not. and now you're quoting her to say we should.

1. Spybot isn't something I can recommend. MissImmortalPain covered that.
2. NoScript run in tandem with RequestPolicy is far stronger than running NoScript alone, though one has to be a techie to manage that, so I only suggested that to the Trekkie who already runs NoScript.
3. I advised MissImmortalPain, and forumites in general, to install an antivirus program, Secunia, and Threatfire.

I didn't speak to you at all until you contradicted me, giving dangerously misleading reasons for contradicting me. I posted links showing your reasons for contradicting me were incorrect, and asked you to cut it out.

You might have a better time here if you didn't act as though you were God's gift to every possible topic. Seriously.

Hey there OP,
I'm going to go off topic here, not that it would be unusual on any of the threads you seem to frequent lately, and just talk about behavior. In at least two other thread besides this one people keep having to stop and talk about behavior and attitudes with you instead of the thread. I assure you, this isn't really the norm around here. At the risk of having you paint me as yet another troll, I'd like to point out that when multiple people seem to be having trouble with same person, you, there might be a correlation there. You know the old saying that if you keep having issues with people, then maybe it might be yourself? It sure seems odd to me that so many people lately have been accused of, or are accusing you of, not listening or misinterpreting. Something to think about...

Don't take my word for it, check out some old threads. Sure there are the occasional heated debates, but I have never seen anyone point the finger at others so many time as you do and vice versa. Troll seems to be a word you like using, but perhaps 'that word does not mean what you think it means' (props to anyone who gets the PB reference). Anyway, not to add fuel to the fires around here lately, but it seemed time to mention the fact that they keep cropping up around you. That is meant to be a moment for reflection, not an attack.

As for you Lizi, seeing as we are off topic and could use a laugh....

Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

thanks for finally clarifying yourself.

but oh gosh, no, you said you were "disturbed" that i was "providing incorrect security advice" to your real life friends, when in fact, you agreed with what i was saying. disingenuous.

and are you saying that i shouldn't engage you unless you engage me? talk about thinking you're god's gift to the world - how does that matter? you're just being disingenuous again cus you replied to someone replying to me about no-script. of course i'm going to reply to you if i suggest a tool, and you say it sucks ("somewhat illusory").

then to top if off, you rant about me dismissing the tool you suggest (i didn't), and post a comparison that refuted what you said about no-script's benefits being illusory.

re being god's gift - pot-kettle. you obviously have fans, as you advertised here in your godly manner, but fuck mob rule. the insults you think up are more a reflection of your world, and how you think. not every1 is like you and fixated on ego - this was about being helpful (check out my name, Mr magic), so thanks for fucking that and this thread up.

I actually have a shirt that says that on a little printed name tag. I could have gone a bit deeper and said "I put the vitamins in both glasses" but you have to not only like PB but AD to get that one. I would be happy with personally knowing Mandy, I have been a fan for years.

yes thanks, all taken in good spirit. i think the cause is certainly not a one way street. red magic's post alluding to how i shouldn't have replied to him without being addressed by him helps sum it up. while i respect coming into a community and following their norms, i don't handle internet mob rule well (not that you're one of the mob, you're not). and I'm picky about using words, and don't like being mischaracterized, and will call people on it.

but yeah, i get that if 100 sailors say it's so, it's prob so. but again, i'm not worried about mob rule, anymore than the people who come here for some BDSM solidarity worry about what vanillas think.

ps edit: you're right, many diff definitions of what a troll is. and someone can behave like a troll but not be one. part of the two way street is that i don't respond well to what i consider trollish behavior. i.e., passive aggressive troll behavior by replying to multiple people who replied to me, just to put down the things i suggested. that's what red did.

Woah, backup. I'm not sure what makes you think I'm angry about anything. I take being called a nerd as a compliment. And the only reason I quoted what Red said was because it seemed to be the thing you took the most issue with. Him not making it clear that the common person most likely does need an anti. The use of words I was talking about was about the conversation you and were having. I believed that we were not understanding each other. As I said it was not clear. I really didn't know I was "riding your ass" I just thought we were talking.

you seemed to get progressively angrier, so i'm sorry if that's not the case. i could quote your words that seemed angry, and implied i thought negative things about you, which i didn't.

and sorry, i let some of red's negative vibes affect how i responded to you cus you were only noting one small point while ignoring him dissing things i was trying to be helpful suggesting. but i get that's not your job, you were just expressing your views. so sorry again, it's all good (or so i keep thinking cus nothing has resonated with you so far). i.e., not one point of you saying yes, i understand what you're saying (thus why i said riding my ass).
