I just knew that, Janah !! LOL Okay, here's my contribution (I left the BDSM part out of the equation, since it didn't make sense to me.) If I would establish a new nation, and had full control to do what I wanted: I would: Legalize gambling, drugs and prostitution. The government would either take a cut or, as in the case of drugs, be the sole vendor. Profits would be used to support education and other social services. Make universal health care and education of all kinds a constitutional right, which means the government would have to fund these things. How would it do that? Reduce all monies spent on defense and support for other countries. Who would make these decisions? A committee drafted for the purpose, who had no special interests in the outcome. Politicians would not be voted into office. Instead, people would vote on specific issues. How would we get politicians? The draft sounds good. Ban lobbying and special interest groups. All information on issues up for the vote would be required to be accurate and easily accessible to all. Make childcare and education about childcare and family issues free and available to all. Make care for the elderly free and available to all, and encourage those elderly to assist with childcare and family issues. Make a right to work amendment that required the government to give everyone the right to work. People who work pay taxes; taxes pay for needed social services. Completely restructure the current welfare system and the penal system by providing free rehabilitation services, child care, counseling, and drug intervention services for those in need. Non-violent criminals would be fined, not housed at the government's expense. Violent criminals would automatically lose all human rights and be treated with the harshness they deserve. Require people to vote. Require licenses for driving, getting married and being a child care provider, that would be issued only after sucessfully completing the (free) required training. Eastablish a committee who's purpose would be to eradicate useless laws, and make recommendations (that the people would vote on) to establish new laws that carried hefty fines. (Fines help fund social services.) Rewrite thoe amendments that touch on the the individuals' right to privacy, and make it a firm constitutional right. Completely restructure the current tax laws so that corporations making huge profits would have to pay their fair share. If these corps chose to leave the US (and they would), back this up with strong laws on importing goods and services to the US, and make loss of US jobs ILLEGAL. Use the combined intelligence we have in our univesities and research facilities to facilitate the above AND to understand the US's place in the global world and reform foreign polcies as necessary. I could go on, you get the drift. And no, I am not a socialist. I am a capitalist and a believer in democracy. But I also believe there is a bare minimum of care that ALL people should be given. If we could accomplish that, oh gee if we as a nation just wanted to do that, what a forward thinking nation we would be. JMO folks.
