By the way have you denounced Bill Maher because one of his guests said that there would be a race war if Obama losses.

There are plenty of reasons for denouncing Bill Maher and that's coming from a democrat and an atheist.

If that is directed at me, BamaD, I am afraid I have no idea what you are referring to. I haven't mentioned "Westbrook" (Westboro ?) in this thread.

I'm beginning to believe you are confusing my posts with those of FlightDirector.

You are correct, I did.

You can compare, presumably with a straight face, "defacing" a flag with a call for armed revolution against a constitutionally elected president? How very strange.

I certainly have had my share of run ins with my local GOP committee leadership, and it never ceases to amaze me the lengths they will go to to defend indefensible actions. Hopefully, the good repubs of Green County will show a little more character. However, in the very unlikely event that people like the editor mentioned in the OP should try to start an armed revolution, they should remember that other people have arms also, and overthrowing an elect president will hardly be popular. The end result will likely be a few less conservative repubs. Kind of a win, really.

Place George Bush's face on the flag and see the outrage. That was declaring an Obama nation. Please note that I have NEVER defended what he said. To follow with what someone earlier said the 2nd is to protect us from the government. That is not to say that I support armed revolt if Obama is reelected. Answer this what will you say about the riots that will come if he loses?

3) I ALREADY LINKED YOU TO THE PAGE OF THE "OFFENDING" GOP SITE WHICH STATES...
quote:

~ all this rip roar Media hype..... is all about.....being armed with the voices of We the people.....you must arm yourself with a spoken word to be heard ~ just as the founding fathers spoke out during the revolution......So, Yes, arm yourself with many voices for the people and by the people....as your constitution allows....should the vote fail ....this November or at anytime......

~ Being Armed with Your Voices of We The People is The Only Way if Any Vote Should Fail No Matter Who You Vote for ~

" your voice being heard is the best method "

~ God Bless America ~

But keep arguing, and taking FD's side, you both look like fools in doing so.

//*(@W^[email protected]'s a hex on you for lumpin me in as supporting anything FD has to say.[8D] And I'm painfully aware he tends to prevaricate the truth.

I was just askin for a clarification. On the site FD links to the quotes are broken up in an odd way but not broken with dots. The site you link to seems to fill in the blanks but in the OP it states "news letter". That to me implies a hard copy but I see it could easily mean online news letter. I was just confused as to whether your link was a clarification from the GOP or was actually the original text. It just wasn't that clear when you stated "perhaps" except you also stated
FD was lying again, I get that.

Its not 'freedom of speech' when one is willing to resort to violence and destruction to get what they want in a political forum. That's called 'treason'.

Ohk, I'll buy that and of course that would mean that the anti abortion movement was a terror movement, Jighad watch and atlas shrugs terrorist front groups and the tea party a seditious organization of racists....I mean when you paint the many with the sins of the few it goes both ways right? Actually, the term is sedition, treason is rendering aid to the enemy OR fighting in the enemy military against the US.

Aaron Burr, committed Sedition not treason, referring to the famous case.

Of course Republicans support the armed revolt against a duly elected government IF that government is not the one they voted for.

Doesnt apply if you're advocating revolution. See the Smith Act and the Communist Party trials from the early 50's:

Why dont you QUOTE the part of the Constitution where it says that individuals can advocate or act to overthrow a legitimate government elected by the MAJORITY of the citizens of the US.

Stop playing word games. Address the case where a majority no longer considers the actions of the government to be legitimate. This notion that the Constitution of the United States bars the People from ridding themselves of an oppressive government is about as bizarre as it gets. And if you want quotes, suppose you start by quoting where it does that.

Take your time.

Sedition is still illegal.

Whoever, with intent to cause the overthrow or destruction of any such government, prints, publishes, edits, issues, circulates, sells, distributes, or publicly displays any written or printed matter advocating, advising, or teaching the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force or violence, or attempts to do so; or
Whoever organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or violence; or becomes or is a member of, or affiliates with, any such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes thereof—
Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction.

Seems to apply exactly to this instance.

Also a gung ho federal prosecutor would probably find a way to tack on the conspiracy charge( they really love adding conspiracy counts).

I guess what kirata is saying is that if Obama is re-elected, then it is okay for the Republicans to promote, advocate and even act against the duly elected government.

In the OP, the GOP functionary advocates "armed revolution" in the event of Obama being re-elected. So even the somewhat dubious proposition being advanced above is irrelevant. The majority of Americans will have affirmed their support for the sitting President at the appropriate place - the ballot box.

Spin it which ever way you please, calls for "armed revolution" are sedition. Sedition is a crime and a gravely serious crime at that. Partisan defences diminish those who make them. We can all imagine the shreiks of self righteous outrage coming from the GOP and other "law'n'order' fetishists if the sedition came from a source that was black, or Muslim, or a member of any minority/marginalised group.

Sedition is contained in the meaning of the words used, not in the background of the speaker. That the speaker in this instance comes from a conservative middle class background doesn't make his sedition an iota more palatable or acceptable. If anything it is more not less reason for his prosecution (in order that justice is seen to be done, and that one standard of justice is seen to apply to all).
