Not in spite of, because of.

Every State that has voted on traditional marriage has approved it. Not just States that Obama won in 2008, like North Carolina. When Obama won California in 2008, California also passed a constitutional amendment to make marriage between 1 man and 1 woman. Besides Christianity in this nation, there are many other religions, like Jews and Muslims, that typically vote for Democrats but are also opposed to same sex marriage. The middle east loves Obama, just imagine how they are going to react to this news once they have it translated for them.

I think the polling will continue to go Romney's way, not in spite of Obama's views on gay marriage, but because of them.

I think Theon makes a good point. As I shared on another thread, my joy at Obama's news was tempered by remembering what LBJ said after signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964: "We've just lost the South for a generation." And he was right.

I hope Obama's fallout won't be quite that dramatic, but I'm sure it will come. People don't surrender their prejudices easily.

Jews tend to be quite liberal, and the ones that I know (at my synagogues) will support same sex marriage. I don't know much about Muslims, but I have heard that they tend to go GOP. I very much doubt that they will BOTH be traditional Democrats but oppose same sex marriage.

Every Jew I know has a very open and progressive attitude toward just people in general. They all have plenty of friends from across the spectrum and they seem comfortable in the idea that if god made made, it's all good.

I knew a couple in up state New York that, prior to one of them passing were always among the most welcome guests at my buddy's cabin. And when one of them succumbed to pancreatic cancer, my friend not only pulled the healthy partner in the relationship in close for support. And we all got a taste of those PAIN in the ass things a gay couple must wade through just to go hold the others' hand when the person they love is shuffling off the mortal coil.
I can't really say much about Muslims, don't know any gay ones, I don't think. But I would say there is now fucking way Obama's declaration does anything to harm his standing with Jewish Americans.
And Steven ... that's neat to hear that the synagogues you know will support same sex marriage.

He'll be fine and this is a change we can't expect him to deliver. He can be the best cheerleader for it. But it's time for us to change our outlook as a country.
I'm glad the guy showed he's got a set again.
While his opponent treated it like an attack opportunity running under the vestments of a late un-great scoundrel of America's darker past.

You know, he really didn't. He reaffirmed his stance--and dropped it.

Hahahahahahaha from which fucking year?

I didn't say that Romney made up his 'stance' last week.

The best evidence shows that he made up his stance back in boarding school and he modifies it whenever he has to.

Hey, he didn't have to bring it up at all, because according to his mouthpieces the president was pandering. Why bring it up at all.

Oh, but wait a better question would be why did he suddenly re-book his engagement with the Mr. Haney school of rE-Lijen and tractor main-tain-ence, after sending them a nice kiss-off letter a month before?

Nah, it was shoring up his position with a base he promised the rest of the country he could separate from in his decision making process.

Bottom line is.. Romney's a liar.

Musicmystery -> RE: Oh, No! Romney seven points ahead in todays Rassmussen Poll? (5/14/2012 8:50:43 PM)

I disagree. He really could have gone to town on this for the conservative base. He didn't.

His continuity of stances is another matter.

At a COMMENCEMENT SPEECH? Oh Please... a paragraph of 'resolve' in the wake of an opposing statement is all the attack you'll every see, except by the biggest low lifes.
You don't even mention your opponent by name in a commencement speech.
But I'm good with the fact that there will be folks that will disagree for whatever reason. I do not however think he could have gone to town at all.

If anyone actually cares about Rasmussen, Romney's slipped 3 points in three days.

Monday, May 14, 2012

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows Mitt Romney earning 48% of the vote and President Obama attracting 44% support. Four percent (4%) would vote for a third party candidate, while another three percent (3%) are undecided.

I suspect it is a temporary bump due to his announcement that his position on gay marrage is reversed from the day before. I focus on the trend. So, unless the unemployment rate suddenly reverses itself soon then Obama must pray everyone turns gay and votes that way.

And plenty of advice not to.
This guy has at best an average intellect. He passed Harvard when they were still afraid not to pass big donor's sons dude. My kid's godfather's older brother (whom we call Havvid as a nickname) sat behind him in the Bschool and occupies the floor beneath him in the hancock building. I've said for months now that during his tenure at Bain he was spoofed every successful deal they pulled off. Shit man... if he hadn't come up from the shitty world of Dorchester on scholarships all the way, HE'D probably be your R candidate.

Really Muse... there's no magic here.

Hahahaha... All Obama has to pray is that Mitt stays his dumb as a fucking post self... And really 'prayer' is hardly the metaphor needed for that.

that's pretty clever showing how little you care about the issue by MISSPELLING it[:D]

Weren't you the one the other day talking about people posting about what matters instead of what someone did when they were a child?
