I'm going to go against the flow here and say that I don't mind "slavespeak." I actually think it's kind of cute in some women.

The slash text drives me crazy though. In English for a generic term for groups of mixed sex you use the male word. Reading "We are looking for someone to join our group. S/He should be blah, blah blah..." is annoying. That you can find in vanilla publications. Add in the lower case for sub/Dominant and you get "S/H/s/he should be..." But then there is no set order for such wording so you have to waste precious milliseconds deciphering it. Something littered with such atrocities takes much longer to read.

You yourself have expressed it "in some". I myself have taken delight as well a horror in "slavespeak". It actually has very little to do with the practice itself.

There are many elements of Slash Speak which annoy the living Hell out of me. I'll let somebody know quickly if I'm annoyed and displeased by it. 90% of the time they knock it fuck off. Might have a conversation about it. Some were simply taught to address the opposite side of the coin in this manner. Via the Chatrooms (the great cyber learning rooms which they often are <--- NOT!).

Anyways, I tend to view Slave Speak and Slash Speak as two different animals. I'd rather read words which people can actually speak. How the hell do you actually say "S/he" anyways?

shh-he.

They all have pronunciations. I've done the slash speak myself and have no problem with it, but then, I adapt fast linguistically. I understand that people find it visually intrusive but frankly, even if it's the majority, the writing style exists for a reason. I don't rail on ray over in Ask A Master either, if illeism gets his rocks off all the power to him. The only time it's a bad choice is when you inflict it on a target that doesn't appreciate it. Then you stop communicating and become an antagonist.

This is just another perspective issue when personal mores are dropped in the well - to hear a splash. To the original OP I would say that I've seen slash speak since my days at Iron Rose and Crystal Palace, back in the early 90s. It is a chat room creation, no more invasive than <3 or LOL, and it does predate Gor activity if one compares it to the appearance of Gor in those areas as well. Third person speak goes back as far as writing has existed.
