My apologies also. For the first time, I have found that hide button and will use it.

And now I am truly BAFFLED as to why anyone is discussing anything OTHER than Rodney King on this thread. If you want moderation, you can ask for it directly, instead of continuing to do something you've been asked not to do.

i hang my head in shame, because you're right

let me make it clear, i do feel sorry for RK, but his life was the result of his own actions. and he ended up doing some good by accident. the universe is back in balance :)

What the hell is that supposed to mean, Karmastic? You think he was that significant, that the universe gave a shit one way or another?

Rodney King didn't end anything, he just taught the cops to look over their shoulders a little more often. Google up Kelly Thomas Listen to the audio, if you can, of him screaming for his dad, while cops of the sick motherfucking variety beat him to death. Fullerton, CA, a couple months ago.

Rodney's picture is in the dictionary, right next to, "beat the fuck up." His name became permanently attached to the worst outbreak of US rioting in the late 20th Century, when a jury (trial location movement is a fair tangent) decided there was enough reasonable doubt about whether he might have needed the ass-kicking, to let the cops walk.

He got his Andy Warhol time, got rich enough that he had a pool to drown in, without worrying much about holding a job. We all know his name and story. He was the one who got video-taped, nothing more. There is no balancing of scales here. The universe sometimes randomly blows farts and kisses, and he was in the right place, at the right time. Yes, I typed that correctly.

True.....sometimes people fail upward and get rich in the process.

I just heard about a guy in Florida that killed a teenager, who`s planning a nice life with his wife and all the money they`re getting as a result of it.

Funny thing about the universe......it can also dry fuck you in the ass without even a hug and doesn`t give a fuck about anything or anyone.

Had King been stopped in a secluded spot......he may have been just one more dead black man and no one including the universe would have cared.

lol! your post is brilliant! check the thread though, you're preaching to the choire :)

one thing though - it did spark reforms, which are still ongoing, and in fact, it's been "the thing" for a long time.

what's more funny (funnier i say) is that at first, i thought you were the mod giving me hell for claiming my one little sentence put the "universe back in balance" in regards to being on topic with this thread - which is what that was referring to. the secondary "pun" purpose, if you will, was that whatever happened to RK, along with the subsequent reforms, put the universe back in balance.

Just now hearing about that, huh? Shame you haven't been getting much time at work to get the water-cooler discussion these last few years. People have been talking about it.

If there hadn't been a camera, he'd have been beat just the same, taken to the hospital just the same, and been shipped off to jail without any vicodin. It happens all the fucking time, and sometimes, just to really complicate it, it's what the situation requires.

I'm gonna agree with everything except the last 5 words. I guess I have a wierd outlook because of my background in martial arts. When someone is down and obviously defeated, you take the win. If your opponent is injured, you administer what aid you can till the medics get there even though you were trying to tear his head off and shit down his neck 5 seconds ago.
I have trained cops in hand to hand and found my students lacking. A vast minority (not majority as some folks think) of the people who wear the badge are just bullies. Unfortunately, they tend to hang out together because the good cops don't want to be with then. Before handheld video, those people had lots of fun.
On the other side, if Mr King hadn't been a fucking idiot and run, he'd have gone to jail for DUI none the worse for wear. Mr King bears a significant amount of responsibility for what happened to him.
Demons or no, noone held his nose and poured the liquor down his throat.

Hi Rich.  How are you?  It's been a while since we talked.

You know, I think you are right about the universe.  I was just outside walking My feet through the grass and talking to the earth.  No, I can't say his passing changed anything.

Just My thoughts on the matter.

Owner,

It is a delight to see you outside of P&R.  Perhaps I could have a moment of your time.

You have touched now on what troubles Me.  I honestly don't care how much booze someone wants to put down their throat.  Hey!  Have a party.

However, when you get behind the wheel, you are no longer just holding your own life in your hands.  I can't step away from that.  I hope others understand.

You know what, Karmastic? That was my bad, in how I did that. I try to trim quotes to the bone, but there, I should have left in that you were quoting me. Won't happen again.

Run your cursor over the subject words though, and you'll find that I provided what I suggested you Google. Take a few minutes with it, then tell me again that Rodney changed anything.

Hi, LadyP! It has been a while. This isn't a good time to ask how I'm doing, really. Weird patch in progress, on a lot of levels.

It wasn't just the drinking that took Rodney to his end of the stick, but the rejection of authority, and his willingness to put lots of innocent lives at risk.

I've never witnessed anyone getting beaten the way he did, but I've seen people take some nasty shots off a cop/cops. In every instance, the thought in my mind, right before the games commenced, was, "you stupid motherfucker."

I understand totally. One thing that came to mind for me, when figuring out why the hell his death saddened me so much was realizing that, in my young dumb days, I drove buzzed and drunk. The last time it happened, I was 20ish, I think, I woke up at home, across my bed, with no fucking idea how I got there. Car in the driveway, contents of purse strewn up driveway to door, car door still opened.

It scared the living shit out of me, and I have never driven drunk again. Thank goodness I didn't kill anyone. Thing is, if I had been pulled over that night, I may well have come to in jail, may have fought cops, wtf knows. And I would have remembered no of it I would guess.

So yeah, Rodney was a dumbass that night, and judging from other things he did, he did not get scared straight, so to say, like me, but, no matter how big a jackass I think he was at times, I have to say thank the gawds I didn't go down somewhat the same road.

It may all boil down to me becoming a sensitive ass pussy in my old age, who knows-lol.

I do appreciate all the discussion that has pertained to the actual subject. The many different views have helped me understand a little bit more why his death saddened me so.

Without intentionally trying to piss off TwentyOne for being off topic.......

Once upon a time, I was in that young and stupid classification, too.  It was kind of what you did where I grew up.  Grabbing a six pack and going for a drive was like a right of passage.  We didn't know any better.  We were kids.

Today?  Hell the fuck no!  Maybe that is why I don't have the sadness that you do, Jst.  We grew up and he didn't.

Much like when other famous or infamous people die.. it kind of creates some weird nostalgia trip in your mind, even if you were only indirectly affected like, "Hey, I remember that guy."

I don't think it is off topic, and I am sure if it is, 21 will let us know in a most domly way-lol.

The growing up part is so true. I have a couple of former friends who, at my age, still have not grown up, and that caused me to remove them from my life.
