It is not only Medicaid. State Insurance Exchanges will be established where Health Insurance Companies can and will compete for customers. A representative from Aetna was on CNBC this afternoon explaining that they have been working the past two years to tailor their offerings to be competitive in the new markets. Oh wait, competitive markets! That sorta blows away all the Socialism hysteria. Seems to me, Rob, you are arguing against a system that hasn't been built yet.

If it hasn't been built, why are the progressives dancing in the streets? Haven't we been paying for it for the last year and a half? Oh that's right, this is one of those you pay now, we'll give you a hamburger on Wednesday January 1st 2014 kinda deals.[8|]

Well it seems its time to look at it now from a different angle. I now pay about 6 thousand a year for insurance, so if I drop it, then pay 2500 to get in the govt insurance,, I figure I just got a 3500 dollar a year raise

Here's the deal House....

Your insurance isn't going to drop to $2,500.00, any more than you're going to be able to buy a house in the Bermuda's tomorrow for 89 bucks.

You're just now legally REQUIRED to buy insurance (that currently costs you 6K).

You can buy lesser insurance...everyone can....you just now....have to.

By law.

Now lemme ask you one very pertinent question:

What do you anticipate is the likelihood that your insurance is going to fall by a WHOPPING 57% tomorrow because of this decision (for comparable coverage)?

Hmmmmmm?

(Don't spend that $3,500.00 just yet).

So much for the "hope and change" rainbows he shot out of his ass for you

Told ya so

Lots of hope and change. He managed to do what other Presidents failed to do.... Provide health care for a country while sitting back watching Republican heads explode.

When is Rush packing?

Rush is a moron.

He's not a moron because he's a Republican.

He's just a fucking moron.

the strangest part of the right wings dislike of this act is that they say it will end up costing the poor money when they have to pay the irs for not having insurance. go read the act online. there is a very small penalty and it actually says that teh govt. is forbidden to attempt to collect it. so the only ones to be hurt by the act is the big insurance companies. dont beleive me? go online and read about it, become informed rather than believe the lies the right is spreading. or just be lazy and beleive the right...they are counting on us voting against our best inetrests. a sure sign this wont be liked by the right wingers here is how swiftly and personally they attack me. watch and learn people before it becomes too late.

YOU need to sign up for the circuit....get on stage...you have a potentially riotously funny act.

It ain't gonna cost the poor skaddich.

They can't afford this law anyway so they ain't gonna pay.

YOU ARE!!!!

"there is a very small penalty and it actually says that teh govt. is forbidden to attempt to collect it".

Totally 173 and 7/16ths correct!

The gubment CAN'T collect it because they are forbidden to "penalize" individual taxpayers.

Read a smidge deeper and you'll discover that they CAN (however) "tax" those who don't participate.

Guess what?

The Constitution forbids singular taxes....soooooo.....we ALL get taxed for the miscreants.

Enjoy the spoils.

Let's see them make this pig swim now using the word tax. How can you tax someone for NOT buying something?

A person who rents his home is not eligible for a mortgage deduction as a homeowner is. The renter is effectively taxed for not buying a home.

Oh yeh, a burdensome tax. Another lie.

Congress specifically did not allow the use of liens and seizures of property as methods of enforcing the penalty. Non-compliance with the mandate is also not subject to criminal or civil penalties under the Tax Code and interest does not accrue for failure to pay the penalty in a timely manner, according to the congressional Joint Committee on Taxation.

I don't get the correlation.

medicaid is pretty shitty? I have medicaid. it pays for every doctors visit totally. it pays for every prescription totally. I dont have to wait to get into a doctor. I have to assume you dont have medicaid.....it is really pretty good. unless you are a rightwinger or for the insurance companies. why are we as a people supporting the rich insurance companies that restricted our coverage and even denied us coverage. 30 million people dont have insurance and cannot afford to see a doctor. why is that a good thing for us?

A person who does not buy a house pays a higher effective tax. Seems pretty clear. A deduction denied is a tax imposed.

Vincent....just for the sake of fair argument....let's do the math....okay?

The government can't penalize those (individuals) that don't conform....right?

But it's a federal mandate that all must comply....correct? (By the way, the correct answer to both of the above is "yes").

Okay....now that that's out of the way....we have, let's just say for the sake of argument, 10 million folks who refuse to comply.

Right?

Could be 5 million, could be 30 million....could be 8 guys waiting for you to pick them up at the Home Depot for a day job...the number is truly irrelevant.

Sooooo....the feds can't penalize an individual for non compliance. But SCOTUS said they could "tax"......stay with me.....

Now, the feds can't legally "tax" an individual (that would be a "penalty", specifically prohibited by the Supreme Court).

With me so far?

Let's continue.

Sooooooo....if the feds can't "penalize" (or lien, etc.) an individual for non compliance but.....they can "tax" for non compliance....and I'm just spit balling here.....

What do you think the chances are that YOUR taxes are going to go up because the SUPREME COURT today deemed into law that they now can?????

The Prez no longer needs Congress to raise taxes (as per THIS issue). More, thanks to this new mandate WILL follow.

It's now a federal law that he (The Prez) not only can, but because there are NO OTHER LEGAL AVENUES TO RAISE THE REVENUES TO PAY FOR SAME....The Prez now has a single signing option to raise your taxes across the board, and in fact, by federal Supreme Court rulings....HE MUST.

PERIOD.

I'm familiar with the deductions allowed homeowners versus the lack therein for renters. It's a fairly well covered tax act.

How exactly does that apply to the new health act?

If we somehow survived Brown vs Board Of Education we'll survive this.

Well, here's the deal Domincharge....until you have 9 billion dollars in annual sales, employees in 26 states and 40 million a year to spend on lobbyists....you'll be supporting the "rich insurance companies".

Deal with it.

You don't honestly think that any democrat or republican gives a fuck about you do you?

Seriously?

You don't honestly think that any legislation purporting to be "for the common man" is in fact.....for the common man?

Do you?

I've seen your posts....I thought you were a smart guy.

Perhaps I was mistaken.

Obama said "Health Care Should "Never Be Purchased With Tax Increases On Middle Class Families.""

Not only that but he promised he wouldnt raise taxes generally nor tax us in this way specifically

But since when were leftists like Obama ever consistent in the things they say and do

Unfortunately, this also means that Romney "raised taxes" in Massachusetts, despite his claim to the contrary, by implementing a health care mandate there.

Sanity -> RE: Affordable Care Act is upheld (6/28/2012 10:12:43 PM)

Kind of a complicated argument re Romney, especially since Romneycare was a state issue which is more proper for such a law as this

Not sure you can make it stick, not the way many Americans will see Obamacare as the huge tax increase that it is when its splayed out in the debates and the commercials

Not everyone likes the federal government forcing them to do things, buy something expensive

Force them to fix something they might not consider to be broke

Has a little sunshine licking at some of its darker chapters
